Book 3D Printing Intellectual Property and Innovation

Download or read book 3D Printing Intellectual Property and Innovation written by Rosa Maria Ballardini and published by Kluwer Law International B.V.. This book was released on 2016-04-24 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 3D printing (or, more correctly, additive manufacturing) is the general term for those software-driven technologies that create physical objects by successive layering of materials. Due to recent advances in the quality of objects produced and to lower processing costs, the increasing dispersion and availability of these technologies have major implications not only for manufacturers and distributors but also for users and consumers, raising unprecedented challenges for intellectual property protection and enforcement. This is the first and only book to discuss 3D printing technology from a multidisciplinary perspective that encompasses law, economics, engineering, technology, and policy. Originating in a collaborative study spearheaded by the Hanken School of Economics, the Aalto University and the University of Helsinki in Finland and engaging an international consortium of legal, design and production engineering experts, with substantial contributions from industrial partners, the book fully exposes and examines the fundamental questions related to the nexus of intellectual property law, emerging technologies, 3D printing, business innovation, and policy issues. Twenty-five legal, technical, and business experts contribute sixteen peer-reviewed chapters, each focusing on a specific area, that collectively evaluate the tensions created by 3D printing technology in the context of the global economy. The topics covered include: • current and future business models for 3D printing applications; • intellectual property rights in 3D printing; • essential patents and technical standards in additive manufacturing; • patent and bioprinting; • private use and 3D printing; • copyright licences on the user-generated content (UGC) in 3D printing; • copyright implications of 3D scanning; and • non-traditional trademark infringement in the 3D printing context. Specific industrial applications – including aeronautics, automotive industries, construction equipment, toy and jewellery making, medical devices, tissue engineering, and regenerative medicine – are all touched upon in the course of analyses. In a legal context, the central focus is on the technology’s implications for US and European intellectual property law, anchored in a comparison of relevant laws and cases in several legal systems. This work is a matchless resource for patent, copyright, and trademark attorneys and other corporate counsel, innovation economists, industrial designers and engineers, and academics and policymakers concerned with this complex topic.

Book The Complete Book on Printing Technology

Download or read book The Complete Book on Printing Technology written by NIIR Board Author and published by ASIA PACIFIC BUSINESS PRESS Inc.. This book was released on 2003-07-02 with total page 742 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Printing Industry generates a wide range of products which require in every step of our everyday life. Starting from newspapers, magazines, books, post cards to memo pads and business order forms each are the products of printing industry. Printing is a process for reproducing text and image, typically with ink on paper using a printing press. There are various types of printing process for example offset printing, modern printing, gravure printing, flexographic printing etc. Offset printing is a widely used printing technique where the inked image is transferred from a plate to a rubber blanket, then to the printing surface. When used in combination with the lithographic process, the offset technique employs a flat image carrier on which the image to be printed obtains ink from ink rollers, while the non printing area attracts a film of water, keeping the non printing areas ink free. Gravure printing is a printing technique, where the image to be printed is made up of small depressions in the surface of the printing plate. It is divided into three broad product areas; packaging printing, publication printing and speciality printing. Printing technology is often carried out as a large scale industrial process, and is an essential part of publishing and transaction printing. This is the age of hi fi, jets and computers. Rapid advancements in science and technology have made their impact on the printing industry of the world too. The old techniques of printing have become obsolete and made way for the new technology. The printing industry is just one example of an entire industry movement that is changing while keeping up with the development of new technologies. The proliferation of emerging technologies has dictated a rebirth of the printing industry. The Indian Printing Industry is well established and presently growing at 12% per annum. This book majorly deals with typographic technology, photo scanning systems, sequence of steps in the printing processes, size and scope of the printing industry, high volume printing technologies for the production of polymer electronic structures, inking system, film high contrast printing, principle of planographic printing, modern printing process, ink jet etc. The book contains the latest printing processes like web, gravure, flexo, security and offset printing. This book is an invaluable resource for new entrants, technicians, craftsmen and executives working with printing industries. Book Chemistry and Technology of Printing and Imaging Systems

Download or read book Chemistry and Technology of Printing and Imaging Systems written by P. Gregory and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Printing and imaging has a major impact on everyone. From the obvious examples of newspapers, magazines and comics through to photographs, currency and credit cards, and even the less obvious example of compact discs, everyone is familiar with the end products of printing and imaging. Until recently, the major printing and imaging technologies have been impact printing and silver halide photography. Important impact printing technologies are offset lithography, gravure, flexography and screen printing. All these technologies, including silver halide photography, are mature and have changed little over the past few decades. In contrast, the phenomenal growth of silicon chip technology over the past 15 years or so has spawned a new era of printing and imaging systems, the so-called non impact (or electronic) printers. Not all the non-impact printing technologies are of equal commercial importance. Some, like diazotype and conventional photolithography, are mature and are declining in importance. Other technologies, though relatively new, have not achieved notable commercial success. Electro graphy and magnetography fall into this category. The remaining tech nologies such as optical data storage (the technology used in compact discs), thermography (the technology used in electronic photography), ink jet printing and electrophotography are the non-impact printing tech nologies that are both modern and which have achieved remarkable commercial success, especially ink-jet printing and electrophotography.

Book Inkjet Technology for Digital Fabrication

Download or read book Inkjet Technology for Digital Fabrication written by Ian M. Hutchings and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2012-11-09 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whilst inkjet technology is well-established on home and small office desktops and is now having increasing impact in commercial printing, it can also be used to deposit materials other than ink as individual droplets at a microscopic scale. This allows metals, ceramics, polymers and biological materials (including living cells) to be patterned on to substrates under precise digital control. This approach offers huge potential advantages for manufacturing, since inkjet methods can be used to generate structures and functions which cannot be attained in other ways. Beginning with an overview of the fundamentals, this bookcovers the key components, for example piezoelectric print-heads and fluids for inkjet printing, and the processes involved. It goes on to describe specific applications, e.g. MEMS, printed circuits, active and passive electronics, biopolymers and living cells, and additive manufacturing. Detailed case studies are included on flat-panel OLED displays, RFID (radio-frequency identification) manufacturing and tissue engineering, while a comprehensive examination of the current technologies and future directions of inkjet technology completes the coverage. With contributions from both academic researchers and leading names in the industry, Inkjet Technology for Digital Fabrication is a comprehensive resource for technical development engineers, researchers and students in inkjet technology and system development, and will also appeal to researchers in chemistry, physics, engineering, materials science and electronics.
