Book excerpt: Excerpt from Principles of Psychic Philosophy The awakening of Spiritual Conscious ness is the discovery of the real self. It is not so much the technical training of our powers that we need as the sim ple recognition of their existence. We are already in possession of infinite forces but they are useless until we find their true expression. In the propositions here presented it isnot intended to follow the argument to its finality. These statements appeal to the spiri tual consciousness, and those who enter the path will not miss the goal to which it leads. Book Principles of Psychology

Download or read book Principles of Psychology written by Arthur Lynch and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-05-23 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Principles of Psychology: The Foundation Work of the Aletheian System of Philosophy Of the great tasks within the compass of man one of the most fascinating is surely that of tracing out the course of thought, so that this may be seen from the first glimmering of intelligence to the complex web Of knowledge and reasoning that form our comprehension of the world. Since all this is contained in our thought, the suggestion arises as to whether the thought be not capable Of exhibiting its content lucidly in the modes of its experiences and processes of combination. The problem of discovering these processes and laying bare the entire mechanism might well appear so vast, and at the same time so tenuous and elusive, as to be impossible, unless indeed by favour of new methods of conducting the attack and the discovery of new forms of analysis. It is the object of the present work to show the investigations that furnish the solution. Briefly the pith of the book is the elucidation of the manner in which all complexes of thought may be shown to be built up by syntheses of certain Fundamental Processes, which are in the psychic world the analogues of the chemical elements in the physical world. Once the central problem' solved, the main position secured, I have shown a series of developments in which various great problems of psychology are dealt with in new illu mination and the work will have missed something of its purpose unless it be found to give to the reader the sense of standing at a central point of command from which he sees the development of the structural forms of thought, whether it be in the ordinary operations of the mind, or in the domain of the sciences, or in the applications wherein he may find the vast mechanical products of civilisation springing as corollaries from the delicate filaments of the thinker's mind. Book Elements of Spiritual Philosophy

Download or read book Elements of Spiritual Philosophy written by R. P. Ambler and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-03 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Elements of Spiritual Philosophy: Being an Exposition of Interior Principles Spirits have looked with dismay on the dense and stifling atmosphere of the lower world. They have seen that the earth has been clouded with an emanation which has flowed from the gross and undeveloped minds of the people. They see that Materialism has been the prevailing faith of the mass through all the darkened ages of the Past, and that superstitions of the most degrading character have been fostered in the foul bosom of the human race. They have beheld the vision which such scenes have presented with the regret which sympathizing angels ever feel for the unfortunate and depressed; and in the love which flows amid the homes of wretchedness and suffering, have they spoken to the hearts which are buried in the gloom of earthly corruption. Spirits have seen what the blinded world do not see, because they are elevated above the plane of sensuous existence, and can perceive the deep and interior reality. Thus it is beheld as a lamentable truth that the world has been ever, in all previous eras, darkly and grossly material - that it has lived and flourished amid the fading dreams of sense and with all the surrounding influences of degrading passion. Book Principles of Psychology

Download or read book Principles of Psychology written by George Ramsay and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-02 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Principles of Psychology: In Three Parts It is now just four years since I published An Introduction to Mental Philosophy, which may be considered as a suitable preparation for the present Work. It appeared to me that before entering upon the thorny paths of metaphysical ground, it was highly desirable to pave the way by A Philosophical Vocabulary, which should endeavour to fix the meaning of the principal terms used in Philosophy, not in Mental Philo sophy only, but in every inquiry worthy of that name. Such are the terms, substance, qual ity, quantity, relation, cause and effect, law OF nature, principle, hypothesis and theory, science, and philosophy itself. Accordingly, such a Philosophical Vocabulary forms the First Part of the Introduction, which, but for the Second Part, which treats particularly of Mental Philosophy, might have been styled an Introduction to Philosophy in general. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Problems of Philosophy: Or Principles of Epistemology and Metaphysics Of course there were differences of opinion regarding the nature of cosmic unity, whether of the pluralistic or monistic type, but all agreed that there was a unity of some kind, so that, in so far as the process of knowledge was concerned, the differences of Opinion turned on the sensory or intellectual, or in modern parlance, the materialistic and the spiritual, view of this knowledge, the conflict being between the com mon and the educated man in regard to the world and its phenomena, though in general they held to very much the same propositions. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Philosophical Introduction to Ethics: An Advocacy of the Spiritual Principle in Ethics One more point comes within the legitimate scope of this Introduction. The philosophical standpoint adopted has been identified with that of Personal Idealism and this may need a brief word of explanation. Defining Idealism generally as the doctrine which finds the ultim ate reality of the universe in Spiritual life, and its end in the perfecting thereof, the diffe1entia of Personal Idealism is its insistence that such ultimate reality can be sought or reached m and through our own personal experience, and in no other way. It lays emphatic stress on the infinite significance and value of the ethical life, and claims, in the words of one of its most distinguished representatives, that here only in the life of ethical endeavour is the end and secret of the universe to be found. Its view -point is teleological, con crete in the truest idealist sense, and such is th'e view point maintained and developed throughout the present volume. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Philosophy of Mysterious Agents, Human and Mundane, or the Dynamic Laws and Relations of Man: Embracing the Natural Philosophy of Phenomena Styled "Spiritual Manifestations" While every other field of natural inquiry seems to be occupied with busy, patient plodders for the ore of truth, - while the pro foundest talents and the most varied learning are employed in developing the sublime laws of the heavens and the earth, - while the mysteries of light, heat, electricity, and of magnetism, of chem ical aflinity and of molecular agency, are being displayed, in their wonderful relations to this mundane sphere, - no profound learn ing, no master mind, seems to have entered this field with the same spirit of patient inquiry and unmystified intellect that, in modern times, characterize our chemists and our astronomers, in their respective fields. But we have to remember that, by the former, the mysteries of alchemy have been transformed to the precise laws of chemistry; and that, by the latter, the fearful wonders of astrology have assumed the sublim0 principles of astronomy. Numerous works have been written upon the mys. Ries of which this volume treats but, with only here and there an exception, they have regarded the phenomena as the disclosures of the invisible world as the manifestations of spirits not as the phenomena of nature, to be classified and arranged accord ing to their relations, that their real agency may be discovered. Book Idea and Essence in the Philosophies of Hobbes and Spinoza Classic Reprint

This book was released on 2018-03-21 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Idea and Essence in the Philosophies of Hobbes and Spinoza As has been asserted, Hobbes and Spinoza particularly have suffered from such misapprehensions. The misrepresentation of their meaning rests essentially upon the introduction into their psychology of that dual view of existence which is characteristic of modern psychology. From this distortion of their psychological tenets there ensues a correla tive distortion of their epistemological and metaphysical opinions. When we have equated the mental, the spiritual, the conscious, and the psychical, or have taken these terms as referring to a single spiritual principle or substance, and from this equation have derived the content for the Hobbeistic and Spinozistic phraseology, we have started our study of their systems with the assumption that the notion of existence as dual is, either obscurely or patently, a regulative force in their philosophies. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Fascination, or the Philosophy of Charming: Illustrating the Principles of Life, in Connection With Spirit and Matter Science has long since endorsed the professor's solution, and to doubt it at the present day would betray gros's ignorance. Not so fortunate, how ever, was Epimenides, for it is only in our aim times that his claims have been acknowledged; and from the want of more extended information, many are even now incredulous. Increasing light will induce belief, and it is my earnest wish that the following pages may tend to that result. Man, besides soul and matter, possesses an intermediate principle dis tinct from and between both, called the life power: or in the words of Bonard, he is an intelligence served by organs - these organs being the servants of the life power, by which it operates upon the material world, and is in turn operated upon by it. A proper knowledge of the life power is a key to explain all the phenomena of fascination and this it is the oh' joet of the present work to communicate. A very concise but perfectly clear idea of physiology is given, and on this the foundation is laid. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
