This book was released on 2016-10-13 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Principles of Mercury Arc Rectifiers and Their Circuits The authors have used a treatment which appears to them to be suited especially to American engineering practice. The usual condensation Of mathematical work, for the sake of having it appear in a concise form, results in the adoption of special methods behind which the problem to be solved becomes almost totally obscured. The present writers, therefore, have not limited them selves in the amount of space to be used, but have instead picked out such mathematical processes as best set forth, to their minds, the physical conceptions Of the problems discussed, and this usually results in the elimination of lengthy algebraic transformations. Mathematics is thus treated as a useful tool and is considered neither as the end to be attained nor as a weakness to be concealed. The first part Of the book begins with a discussion Of the physics Of several simple types of rectifiers and ends with the mercury arc rectifier. In this section, the authors have included the results. Of the labors Of many workers as well as a description of their own work. Book Electronic Methods

Download or read book Electronic Methods written by E. Bleuler and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 461 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Methods of Experimental Physics, Volume 2 – Part A: Electronic Methods, Second Edition focuses on techniques and experimental methods involving vacuum-tube and solid-state electronic devices and vacuum-tube circuitry. This volume consists of eight main topics—passive linear circuit elements and networks, semiconductor circuit elements, vacuum tubes, gas tubes, rectifier circuits and power supplies, amplifiers, oscillators, and nonlinear circuits. In these topics, this book specifically discusses the relations between time and frequency response; devices employing bulk semiconductor properties; Richardson-Dushman equation; and gas tube phenomena. The full-wave rectifiers with capacitive load; vacuum tube and field-effect transistor bias circuits; and harmonic oscillators are also elaborated. This text likewise covers the oscillators that use negative resistance devices; field-effect transistors; and analog-to-digital (A/D) converters. This publication is a good source for physicists and students interested in techniques and methods involving electronic equipment.

Book Semiconductor Power Electronics

Download or read book Semiconductor Power Electronics written by Richard G. Hoft and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Semiconductors have been used widely in signal-level or "brain" applications. Since their invention in 1948, transistors have revolutionized the electronics industry in computers, information processing, and communications. Now, however, semiconductors are being used more and more where consid erable "brawn" is required. Devices such as high-power bipolar junction tran sistors and power field-effect transistors, as well as SCRs, TRlACs, GTOs, and other semiconductor switching devices that use a p-n-p-n regenerative effect to achieve bistable action, are expanding the power-handling horizons of semicon ductors and finding increasing application in a wide range of products including regulated power supplies, lamp dimmers, motor drives, pulse modulators, and heat controls. HVDC and electric-vehicle propulsion are two additional areas of application which may have a very significant long range impact on the tech nology. The impact of solid-state devices capable of handling appreciable power levels has yet to be fully realized. Since it first became available in late 1957, the SCR or silicon-controlled rec tifier (also called the reverse blocking triode thyristor) has become the most popular member of the thyristor family. At present, SCRs are available from a large number of manufacturers in this country and abroad. SCR ratings range from less than one ampere to over three thousand amperes with voltage ratings in excess of three thousand volts.

Book Basic Principles of Power Electronics

Download or read book Basic Principles of Power Electronics written by Klemens Heumann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Power electronics became an identifiably separate area of electrical engineering with the invention of the thyristor about 30 years ago. The growing demand for controllability and conversion of electric energy has made this area increasingly important, which in turn has resulted in new device, circuit and control developments. In particular, new components, such as the GTO and power MOSFET, continue to extend power electronic technology to new applications. The technology embodied by the name "power electronics" is complex. It consists of both power level and signal level electronics, as well as thermal, mechanical, control, and protection systems. The power circuit, that part of the system actually processing energy, can be thought of as an amplifier around which is placed a closed loop control system. The goal of this book is to provide an easily understood exposition of the principles of power electronics. Common features of systems and their behavior are identified in order to facilitate understanding. Thyristor converters are distinguished and treated according to their mode of commutation. Circuits for various converters and their controls are presented, along with a description of ancillary circuits such as those required for snubbing and gate drives. Thermal and electrical properties of semiconductor power devices are discussed. The line-converter and converter-load interfaces are examined, leading to some general statements being made about energy transfer. Application areas are identified and categorized with respect to power and frequency ranges. The many tables presented in the book provide an easily used reference source.
