Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Principles of Inorganic Chemistry In the present translation the mistakes which had crept into the German edition have been, as far as possible, corrected, and otherwise various minor changes have been made. As, however, these have all been made either at the author's suggestion or with his approval, special attention need not be drawn to them. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A d104-Book of Inorganic Chemistry It follows from the above statement that the theoretical part of the subject is distributed throughout the book. The different topics are dealt with as Opportunity offers, but the treatment of any particular subject is postponed till facts illustrating it have been mentioned. The subject in question is then considered as fully as space permits - a mode of procedure which appears preferable to dealing with it in a fragmentary manner in different parts of the book. The latter method may usefully be employed for lectures, but the former method greatly increases the value of the book for purposes of reference and revision. As regards the order, I have also been guided to some extent by the historical development of the science. Subject to the above considerations, the more important branches of chemical theory, including the Principles of Chemical Equilibrium, the determination of Molecular Weights in Solu tion, Electrolysis and Electrolytic Dissociation, are introduced at a fairly early stage of the work, and their applications are repeatedly illustrated in the latter part of the book. The Periodic System is described after the non-metals, and serves as the basis for the discussion of the metals and their com pounds. One of the main tasks of a teacher is so to familiarize the student with a general principle that he learns to apply it with confidence. The mere statement of a principle, in the expectation that the student will straightway apply it in his later work, is useless. It will be found that the subjects usually included in an Elementary Course, such as Stage I. Of the Board of Education, are all dealt with in the early part of the book, and the more advanced work in the later chapters. Further division of the subject into stages leads inevitably to the result that information regarding any important element has to be sought for in different parts of the book, thus rendering it much less useful for purposes of reference and revision. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Manual of Inorganic Chemistry: Arranged to Facilitate the Experimental Demonstration of the Facts and Principles of the Science Before heat was applied, the mixture of the two substances was simply mechanical, and the copper might have been completely separated from the sulphur, by due care and patience; but during the ignition the copper and sulphur have united chemically, and there has been formed a substance which, while containing both, has no external resemblance to either. In the new body, the eye can deflect neither copper nor sulphur. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Inorganic Chemistry: Theoretical and Practical; With an Introduction to the Principles of Chemical Analysis, Inorganic and OrganicAs a consequence of these alterations it became absolutely necessary that a text-book for the use of students of classes connected with the Science and Art Department should include the whole of the subject-matter indicated in this recent addition to the syllabus. In order to attain this end I have carefully te-written the whole book, and, disturbing the original plan as little as possible, have incorporated with it any additional matter required to make it fully meet the requirements of both students and teachers. A number of additional questions have been added to those given at the end of the book. In particular, greater attention is given to the exercises on chemical calculations a number of typical examples are selected and worked out in detail, in order to illustrate the prin ciples involved. In this edition the paragraphs are num bered and have side headings. The more important statements and definitions are printed in bolder type. These modifications will, I hope, be of assistance to the student.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book An Inorganic Chemistry Classic Reprint

Download or read book An Inorganic Chemistry Classic Reprint written by Henry George Denham and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-06 with total page 694 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Inorganic Chemistry This method of development has necessarily resulted in defer ring the study of the Ionic Theory until the student has mastered the fundamental laws of the science. In itself this is no dis advantage because the student passes straight from the study of the ionic theory to the chemistry of the metals, where the theory may be most usefully applied. For the ideas concerning oxidation which have been developed in Chapter XI, the author is indebted to Professor B. D. Steele, D.so., who has found this method of dealing with the subject of great help to the student when considering the reactions and properties of the halogens. Book Elements of Inorganic Chemistry Classic Reprint

Download or read book Elements of Inorganic Chemistry Classic Reprint written by Harry C. Jones and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-27 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Elements of Inorganic Chemistry The physical properties Of substances are treated rather more fully than in the earlier text-books, since the tendency today, introduced by physical chemistry, is to bring chemistry and physics more closely together, rather than to separate them as two distinct sciences. The physical properties Of a substance are taken up after its chemical properties, in order that the teacher may conveniently omit more or less Of this part of the text if the pupil is not sufficiently advanced to properly appreciate its meaning. The experiments are placed at the ends of chapters rather than in the body of the text or at the end of the book. By this means the text is made continuous and more readable. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Inorganic Chemistry: For Use in Science Classes and Higher and Middle Schools My aim throughout has been to express, in as clear and simple language as possible, the earlier principles of the science, so as to fit the book for the use of mere beginners, but at the same time to be sufficiently full and accurate that it might be useful as a text-book in the hands of more advanced students. The limits to which this series is confined have prevented me from giving all the experimental illustrations I could have wished; but I have, I trust, given amply sufficient to illustrate every assertion in the text, and have sought to make choice of those which, while they are striking and conclusive, combine also the property of being easily performed, and are therefore most suitable to students whose command of apparatus may be limited. This book was released on 2017-10-27 with total page 1086 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Text-Book of Inorganic Chemistry for University Students Limitations of space prevented more than a bare mention of most of the so-called Rare Elements, many of which are now Of great importance in chemical industry and form part of articles familiar in everyday life. Their chemical properties are also in many cases of unusual interest. A short account of Werner's theory is given, since the classical theory Of Valency, which is of fundamental importance in the somewhat monotonous uniformity Of the chemistry of carbon, proves inadequate when any but the very simplest compounds of the remaining elements are under consideration. The last chapter is intended to be no more than an outline' greater detail in this field would have been inconsistent with the scope of the book, and even undesirable in the present somewhat mobile state of the frontiers of this new knowledge. Book Inorganic Chemistry for Advanced Students Classic Reprint

Download or read book Inorganic Chemistry for Advanced Students Classic Reprint written by Henry E. Roscoe and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-08 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Inorganic Chemistry for Advanced Students IN order to determine the molecular weight, it is necessary, as we have just seen, to ascertain the density of the substance in the state Of gas. It is therefore possible to determine the molecular weight of any substance which can be converted into a gas without undergoing decomposition. The method employed is in principle always the same; the weight Of a given volume Of the gas or vapour is compared with the weight of an equal volume Of air or hydrogen, measured under the same conditions of temperature and pressure. Practically somewhat different methods have to be used when the sub stance is a gas under ordinary conditions and when it is a liquid or a solid.
