Book Engineering Principles for Electrical Technicians

Download or read book Engineering Principles for Electrical Technicians written by K. M. Smith and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 393 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Engineering Principles for Electrical Technicians serves as an introduction to basic engineering principles. This book discusses several topics, including rectifier equipment, pole systems, capacitors, electrical energy, and operating torque. Organized into 23 chapters, this book begins with an overview of the different applications of forces, including gravitational, friction, accelerating, shear, tensile, and compressive force. This text then defines the center of gravity as the point through which the resultant weight acts in whatever position the body is placed. Other chapters consider the efficiency, velocity, and mechanical advantage of simple machines. This book discusses as well the value of the factor of safety that depends on the material being used and the circumstances under which the material will work. The final chapter deals with thermionic emission that is concerned with the production of charged particles at a heated surface. This book is a valuable resource for electrical, mechanical, and telecommunications technicians.

Download or read book The Elements of Direct Current Electrical Engineering Classic Reprint written by George Edward Condliffe and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-23 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Elements of Direct Current Electrical Engineering The main object of the authors of this work has been to bridge the gap existing between the elementary text-books on magnetism and simple current electricity, Ohm's Law, etc., and so many of the more advanced books which deal with the design point of view. Not only the authors, but also many of their friends, have often found difficulty in recommending to students a book which would, without containing many details of a nature more or less superfluous to the purpose, present in a concise form to second-year students at Universities and Technical Schools the theoretical principles underlying Direct Current Electrical Engineering. No attempt has been made to avoid the use of the Calculus where it simplifies proofs, since it is an essential to all students of engineering but, in this book, only a very elementary knowledge of that subject is demanded. No attempt has been made to avoid the use of the Calculus where it simplifies proofs, since it is an essential to all students of engineering; but, in this book, only a very elementary knowledge of that subject is demanded. With a view to simplification, only typical examples and cases are considered, as, for instance, in the chapter on instruments, since, if these are thoroughly mastered, other types of instruments and machines will be readily understood. Thanks are due to Messrs. Metropolitan Vickers Electrical Company and the Reason Manufacturing Company for valuable help with drawings and information. In spite of careful revision, errors easily creep into a work of this nature and, in such a case, the authors will be grateful to have any of these pointed out to them or to receive suggestions as to a second edition, if that should be required. Book Basic Principles of Power Electronics

Download or read book Basic Principles of Power Electronics written by Klemens Heumann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Power electronics became an identifiably separate area of electrical engineering with the invention of the thyristor about 30 years ago. The growing demand for controllability and conversion of electric energy has made this area increasingly important, which in turn has resulted in new device, circuit and control developments. In particular, new components, such as the GTO and power MOSFET, continue to extend power electronic technology to new applications. The technology embodied by the name "power electronics" is complex. It consists of both power level and signal level electronics, as well as thermal, mechanical, control, and protection systems. The power circuit, that part of the system actually processing energy, can be thought of as an amplifier around which is placed a closed loop control system. The goal of this book is to provide an easily understood exposition of the principles of power electronics. Common features of systems and their behavior are identified in order to facilitate understanding. Thyristor converters are distinguished and treated according to their mode of commutation. Circuits for various converters and their controls are presented, along with a description of ancillary circuits such as those required for snubbing and gate drives. Thermal and electrical properties of semiconductor power devices are discussed. The line-converter and converter-load interfaces are examined, leading to some general statements being made about energy transfer. Application areas are identified and categorized with respect to power and frequency ranges. The many tables presented in the book provide an easily used reference source.

Book Principles of Direct Current Electrical Engineering Vol 3 Classic Reprint

Download or read book Principles of Direct Current Electrical Engineering Vol 3 Classic Reprint written by James R. Barr and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-23 with total page 588 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Principles of Direct-Current Electrical Engineering, Vol. 3 IN lecturing on Electrical Engineering to Second Year Students the author has realised the want in recent years of a really suitable text-book - one which he could recommend as adequately bridging the gap between the several elementary manuals and the many excellent works on specialised branches of the subject. This treatise has been written primarily for the intermediate class-work of Universities and Technical Colleges, the basis being a series of the author's Lectures to second-year Students, with a selection of problems systematically arranged in the order of treatment of the subject. A knowledge of the elementary principles of electrical physics and mathematics has been assumed. In writing the book it has been an aim to give a clear and concise account of the fundamental principles of direct current electrical engineering. The work deals essentially with principles, and whenever possible the methods of applying them are illustrated with numerical and descriptive examples. Only those theories and methods of solving problems have been discussed which experience in design and operation has shown to be of practical utility.
