Book A Textbook of Perioperative Care

Download or read book A Textbook of Perioperative Care written by Kate Woodhead and published by Elsevier Health Sciences. This book was released on 2005-05-18 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Woodhead and Wicker's new text will be the foremost reference source for all perioperative practitioners. The content mirrors the dynamics of modern perioperative practice by focusing on surgical interventions in all the environments in which it is currently practised, including A&E departments, general practice clinics, intensive care units, and at the site of serious accidents. Theatre practice is becoming increasingly specialist; this book does not attempt to to reflect the needs of all specialties, but instead concentrates on the principles of practice, applicable to any setting and any specialty. It has a very practical focus - it aims to be the book that nurses and ODPs reach for in order to answer their practical questions - but is not be procedure-driven. Instead, it sets out the principles of perioperative practice, from which practitioners will be able to develop their own practice techniques. Reflects principles of practice, applicable to any perioperative environment Strong practical focus Edited by two of the biggest 'names' in the international perioperative nursing sphere, with contributions from other well-known and authoritative sources Excellent opportunities to develop links with the National Association of Theatre Nurses and the European Operating Room Association The team of contributors are experienced practitioners working directly with perioperative patients or in perioperative education An original model for ethical practice is proposed: the Reid model is the first such ethical model to be proposed for the perioperative environment Includes one of the only chapters in any perioperative book which specifically focuses on the care of the elderly. The research chapter encourages the use of evidence based practice and the development of perioperative research The unique chapter on care of the mentally ill will support practitioners who are not qualified in psychiatry to care for mentally ill patients. This is an area where there is a great information deficit Key points listed for each chapter Sections have been completely revised from previous edition - key subject areas now stand-alone chapters rather than sections within much larger chapters - creates ease of access for user Change of editorship Recognises the diversity of perioperative environments much more explicitly than previous edition

Book Principles of Surgical Nursing

Download or read book Principles of Surgical Nursing written by Frederick Cook Warnshuis and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-24 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Principles of Surgical Nursing: A Guide to Modern Surgical Technic In presenting this volume to the nursing and hospital world, I do so with some trepidation. I am not so fatuous as to believe I am imparting information to such a degree as will enable the student or graduate nurse to gain possession of all that is requisite for a nurse engaged in surgical nursing. The foremost thought has been to impart essential basic principles that will enable a nurse to acquire a reliable fundamental knowledge. Possessed of facts and conversant with their administrative principles, the attainment of perfection will be readily acquired by conscientious work, enlarged experience, collateral reading, and study. With but one or two exceptions I have purposely omitted all discussion of the literature devoted to surgical nursing. The subject matter may in places reflect previous expressions and opinions, but upon the whole the text is based upon the authors personal conclusions and experiences, and the views that have been acquired by perusal of the surgical literature which has appeared from time to time in current literature and proven satisfactory in our operative work. Throughout the presentation of this entire subject my endeavor has been to impart facts briefly and concisely, so that the instruction would not be lost in a maze of descriptive and lengthy text. Unusual, obsolete, and unimportant methods have been purposely omitted in an effort to present the primary and pertinent points. The sole purpose has been to describe recognized principles of technic, accepted plans of procedure and treatment as they exist in present-day practice of surgery and surgical nursing. To advance all the viewpoints and methods of surgeons and instructors of nurses would be impracticable. Instead, I have endeavored to present practical methods that would be applicable in the majority of instances. Book Anxiety Management in Adult Day Surgery

Download or read book Anxiety Management in Adult Day Surgery written by Mark Mitchell and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2006-02-03 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is the first of its kind to specifically outline the psycho-educational nursing interventions required by the anxious, adult patient undergoing elective, ambulatory surgery. Anxiety management is a considerable issue for the majority of surgical patients and has been recognised as such for many decades. However, no formal nursing intervention currently exists to support patients during this acute phase. This book is one of the first to provide strong evidence for the way in which patients can be assisted in the management of their anxiety. Moreover, it provides future direction for surgical nursing intervention in this new era of minimal invasive surgery where patients undergoing elective procedures increasingly require less physical nursing intervention and spend very little time within the acute hospital setting.

Book Principles of Surgical Nursing

Download or read book Principles of Surgical Nursing written by Frederick Cook Warnshuis and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-12 with total page 544 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Principles of Surgical Nursing: A Guide to Modern Surgical Technic The recovery of a patient undergoing an operation is dependent to a large extent upon the technique that is employed and observed during the entire surgical procedure. It is by reason of the high development of present-day surgical technique that many of the operations now under taken result in a low mortality, whereas, the same operations a few years ago either produced a high mortality or were not attempted. Further more, many procedures are now possible which formerly were not to be considered, because a fatal ending invariably resulted by reason of infection.
