Book Principles of Bookkeeping and Farm Accounts Classic Reprint

Download or read book Principles of Bookkeeping and Farm Accounts Classic Reprint written by J. A. Bexell and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-08-24 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Principles of Bookkeeping and Farm Accounts Farming is the oldest and in many respects the most important occupation of man. It dates back beyond the dawn of history, yet one of the modern Captains of Industry recently remarked that Farming is the most modern business in the world. This is certainly true as regards the application of sound business methods. In the mad rush for wealth and power, we seem to have lost sight of the true principles of economy. One of these principles is the art of keeping accounts. One of the greatest authorities on bookkeeping says, The ability to pre - deter mine results by means of accurate accounts and statistics is the highest develop ment of the modern business man. That the farmer needs to develop the same ability to pre-determine results needs no argument. Very few farmers of today have a definite knowledge of their business. Farm accounts must be simple, easily kept, and readily understood to make them effective and practical. Hon. James Wilson says: I would not impose on a busy farmer the keeping of an elaborate set of books, but some simple form of accounts will be a great aid in successful farming. Mr. John Ham ilton, Farmers' Institute Specialist, says: In my judgment no single study outside of the essential branches of writing, reading, and arithmetic would be of more service than the study of an efficient method of keeping accounts. It is a universal need. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Farm Accounts: A Manual for Farmers and Those Desiring a Simple Method of Keeping Accounts The principles of accounting are easiest learned by prae ticing the record of business transactions which are familiar. Every student at school necessarily Spends money. The charges for the various items of school expense, as board, books, book rent, and for such incidentals as clothing, sta tionery, postage, car fare and entertainment, require the tre quent handling of money. The amounts thus spent by each student are important matters for record. Because these things are familiar to all, our first lesson illustrates the proper manner of writing an account of cash receipts and expenditures while at school. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Farm Bookkeeping and Accounts: Suitable as a Text-Book for the Student and as a Guide for the Farmer It has been suggested to the Authors the desirability of preparing and incorporating into the Text-book a series of questions at the end of each Chapter, so that the book might be of use for teaching purposes in Public Institutions and Schools, and this has been cheerfully done. A study of these will be found most helpful to those who may be engaged in equipping the younger generation to bear their portion of future responsibilities on the Farm, and will be undoubtedly the best method of inculcating tn an easy and gradual manner a thorough knowledge of the methods of accounting necessary as an adjunct to successful scientific farming. Book excerpt: Excerpt from How to Keep Farm Accounts: A Practical Book for the Practical Farmer The best way to learn them is to begin an account with one's own farm, and we suggest that after reading to paragraph 47, that an inventory be taken of your live stock, products, and implements. Then make a statement of what you owe and is owing you, as ex plained in paragraphs 33 to 40. Following this, in a suitable book, which may be bought anywhere, make the opening entries as ex plained in paragraphs 41 to 47, and you are ready to take care of each transaction as it may occur. To set yourself right, study the index when anything comes up which you do not fully understand. If you will do this for a few weeks you will have no trouble, and any theory about which you may be in doubt will take care of itself in due time. Book Farm Bookkeeping and the Federal Income Tax Classic Reprint

Download or read book Farm Bookkeeping and the Federal Income Tax Classic Reprint written by United States Department Of Agriculture and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2019-01-11 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Farm Bookkeeping and the Federal Income Tax Any accounting or bookkeeping system is only a tool or a means to an end. Record keeping is worth while to the extent that it provides useful answers to questions about the business. Useful answers are given only if the system provides for consistent treatment of like items and like situations. This is important for any management analysis of the business and is required by the regulations governing income-tax reporting. As has been pointed out, the lawand the regulations governing the Federal income tax emphasize that the taxpayer's regular method of accounting is satisfactory so long as it clearly reflects the income. In addition to these general rules there are at certain points alternative procedures specifically provided for farmers by law or by regulation. The points at which the farmer is permitted to make choices include (1) figuring income on the cash or the accrual basis, (2) method of valuing items in the inventory, (3) method of figuring depreciation, (4) method of handling draft, breeding, and dairy animals, (5) treat ment of Commodity Credit loans, (6) treatment of income from farm woodlands. In addition, farmers may use as their tax year any 12 month period such as a crop or rental year, instead of the calendar year, if they regularly keep their books that way. Book How to Keep Farm Accounts

Download or read book How to Keep Farm Accounts written by Harry Lee Steiner and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-15 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from How to Keep Farm Accounts: A Practical Book for the Practical Farmer A great deal has been said about the need of a simple system of accounts for the Farmstead-something possible on the average farm every day of the year-one relieved of useless detail, and still show its earnings and expenses-it's owner's assets and liabilities. Taking the conditions which govern actual work on the farm into consideration, nothing specific has yet been published for the practical farmer, and it is for him this book has been written. It is elementary because many have had no opportunity to study bookkeeping, therefore the man who knows nothing about it has been kept in sight from cover to cover. The illustration given is introduced to show the application of the fundamental principles of accounting to the every-day routine of general farming. No special sets for stock, dairy or fruit farms is thought necessary because the principles of accounts are unchangeable and only vary in their application. All the farmer, dairyman, fruit-grower or stockman really needs to fully understand the principles when no trouble will be experienced in arranging a system of accounts to suit his wants, which will vary ta certain extent on every farm and with each individual. Bookkeeping is simply a matter of record and to do it correctly only requires that the principles of debit and credit be understood. It is necessary on many farms and useful on all. The question ought not to be, shall I keep some simple set of books, but what form is the most practical? If this book will help you, its object will have been fulfilled. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Simple Farm Accounts: A d104 Book and Guide The average farm business is not large enough to justify the employment oi. A bookkeeper. Nevertheless, on account of the fact that farm business is more complicated than almost any other, the necessity for records is very great. Nearly every business maintains complete records of its transactions in order that the relation of various items of expense to the income may be studied and any leaks or unprofitable operations may be stopped. Certain enterprises within the business may show decided profits or excessive losses over a considerable period of time and therefore it may be desirable to increase or decrease such enterprises. Again, the relation oi. The combination of enterprises of any business must be fully known for it frequently happens that one or more parts of the business may be unprofitable while at the same time if these were discontinued even a greater loss to the entire business would be sustained. This is illustrated in some farming communities where dairying is conducted. A cost account study of the dairy industry sometimes shows a loss while the entire farm is operated more profitably with dairying included in the business than when it is left out. This is often due to better use of labor over the whole year which is required whether dairying is conducted or not.
