Book An Investigation of the Backflow Phenomenon in Centrifugal Superchargers

Download or read book An Investigation of the Backflow Phenomenon in Centrifugal Superchargers written by William A. Benser and published by . This book was released on 1945 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation has been conducted to determine the nature and the extent of the reversal of flow, which occurs at the inlet of centrifugal superchargers over a considerable portion of the operating range. Qualitative studies of this flow reversal were made by lampblack patterns taken on a mixed-flow type impeller, and by tuft studies made on a conventional centrifugal supercharger. Quantitative studies were made on a supercharger specially designed to enable surveys of angularity of flow, static and total pressures, and temperatures to be taken very close to the impeller front face.

Book Performance Effect of Fully Shrouding a Centrifugal Supercharger Impeller

Download or read book Performance Effect of Fully Shrouding a Centrifugal Supercharger Impeller written by William K. Ritter and published by . This book was released on 1945 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A program of tests was conducted to determine the effect of an integral front shroud on the performance characteristics of a centrifugal supercharger impeller. The impellers tested were a modification of a commercial semishrouded impeller and a fully shrouded impeller, which was the same as the semishrouded one except for an integral front shroud. There were conducted in a variable component test setup in conjunction with a vaneless diffuser of NACA design at impeller tip speeds from 800 to 1200 feet per second.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The test-rig installation, measurements, instrumentation, test procedure, methods of calculation, and presentation of data, adopted by the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics as standard for rating and testing centrifugal superchargers, are given in this paper.

Book Performance Characteristics of a Junkers Jumo 211F Engine Supercharger with a DVL Fully Shrouded Impeller and Scroll Diffuser

Download or read book Performance Characteristics of a Junkers Jumo 211F Engine Supercharger with a DVL Fully Shrouded Impeller and Scroll Diffuser written by J. Austin King and published by . This book was released on 1945 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A German supercharger from a Junkers Jumo 211F engine was tested by the NACA. The supercharger differed from conventional American superchargers in that it had a fully shrouded impeller, which discharged through a very short vaneless diffuser into a scroll-collector case.

Book Effects of Axial plane Curvature and Passage area Variation on Flow Capacity of Radial discharge Impeller with Conventional Inlet Buckets

Download or read book Effects of Axial plane Curvature and Passage area Variation on Flow Capacity of Radial discharge Impeller with Conventional Inlet Buckets written by William K. Ritter and published by . This book was released on 1946 with total page 560 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It was concluded that the volume flow capacity of a conventional-type radial-discharge impeller may be greatly increased by utilizing a rear shroud profile of large radius of curvature and a large impeller axial depth to give a gradual change in direction tthrough the impeller passage.

Book The Flow and Force Characteristics of Supersonic Airfoils at High Subsonic Speeds

Download or read book The Flow and Force Characteristics of Supersonic Airfoils at High Subsonic Speeds written by W. F. Lindsey and published by . This book was released on 1947 with total page 524 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation has been conducted at subsonic Mach numbers in the Langley rectangular high-speed tunnel on five supersonic airfoils and, for comparison, on two subsonic airfoils. Book Performance Comparison of Two Deep Inducers as Separate Components and in Combination with an Impeller

Download or read book Performance Comparison of Two Deep Inducers as Separate Components and in Combination with an Impeller written by William K. Ritter and published by . This book was released on 1945 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two deep inducers were tested as separate components and in combination with an impeller as a part of an investigation to correlated design requirements of inducers and impellers. The inducers were designed to impart solid-body, or wheel, rotation to the entering air at constant angular acceleration along the axial depth. The axial depths were 3.00 inches and 2.12 inches. The design load coefficients were 0.24 cubic foot per revolution for the 2.00-inch inducer and 0.35 cubic foot per revolution for the 2.12-inch inducer. The impeller had straight radial blades and a ratio of discharge to inlet areas of 0.715 with uniform change of area along the passage. The inlet diameters of the 24-blade impeller and inducers were 8 inches and the impeller diameter was 12 inches.

Book Friction Coefficients in a Vaneless Diffuser

Download or read book Friction Coefficients in a Vaneless Diffuser written by W. Byron Brown and published by . This book was released on 1947 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Friction coefficients for three constant-area vaneless diffusers, used in conjunction with a centrifugal impeller, were determined from static- and total-pressure surveys taken at several radii and from the usual over-all measurements of temperature, pressure, and air flow. The average value of the friction coefficient through the entire diffuser was approximately 50 percent higher than that for fully developed turbulent flow in smooth pipes. Friction coefficients at the diffuser entrance were about three times the pipe values. In the middle of the diffuser, the friction coefficients agreed well with smooth-pipe values.
