Book Leadership and Organizational Outcomes

Download or read book Leadership and Organizational Outcomes written by Engin Karadağ and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-03-12 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the effect of leadership on organizational outcomes and summarizes the current research findings in the field. It addresses the need for inclusive and interpretive studies in the field in order to interpret leadership literature and suggest new pathways for further studies. Appropriately, a meta-analysis approach is used by the contributors to show the big picture to the researchers by analyzing and combining the findings from different independent studies. In particular, the editors compile various studies examining the relationship between the leadership and thirteen organizational outcomes separately. The philosophy behind this book is to direct future research and practices rather than addressing the limits of current studies.

Book Teacher principal Discrepancy in Perceptions of Leadership Behaviors and Student Achievement

Download or read book Teacher principal Discrepancy in Perceptions of Leadership Behaviors and Student Achievement written by Luz del Carmen Gutiérrez Torres and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Effective school leadership has become a priority of educational policy due to its perceived importance in improving and sustaining student achievement. However, leadership is not a unilateral act as perceptions from followers affect the ability of leaders to influence the school outcomes as measured by student achievement. Previous research suggested a relationship between educational leadership and school climate, and between school climate and student achievement. The focus of this study was to explore an alternative measure of discrepancy in the perceptions of leadership behaviors between principals' self-report and teachers' report, and to examine relationship among this discrepancy measure, school climate, and student achievement. This quantitative correlational study collected data from two secondary data sets: (a) the data from a previous study by Courtney Fee in 2008 on perceptions of leadership behaviors and school climate; and (b) the reports on student scores in the standardized tests published by the Department of Education of the state of Tennessee. Through multiple linear regression analysis, the findings suggested that school climate was significantly related to student achievement while the magnitude of perception discrepancy of leadership behaviors between teachers and their principals was not a significant predictor of student achievement. The study provided further insights into understanding the relationship among educational leadership, school climate, and student achievement. Recommendations and suggestions for future research were discussed.

Book Leadership Behaviors that Contribute to Teacher Morale

Download or read book Leadership Behaviors that Contribute to Teacher Morale written by Vickie Tantee Randolph-Robinson and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Author's abstract: In this era of increased accountability and increased pressure to improve our public schools, elementary school leaders, working to meet the provisions of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) of 2001, are focusing on developing effective leadership behaviors as they face the complex challenges of meeting organizational goals within their elementary schools and maintaining or increasing staff satisfaction. Leadership behavior has long been of interest in industry, business, military, and the government; on the whole, research shows that focusing on social factors such as morale, group interaction, and supportive relationships has a strong effect on productivity and success. The literature suggests that a relationship exists between leadership behavior and staff morale and job satisfaction. It hypothesizes that principals who consciously practice transformational leadership behaviors have a positive impact on the morale and productivity of their teachers. This study explores the soundness of the hypothesis and provides data for school leaders who strive to develop innovative leadership styles that will empower their teachers and improve morale. This study was conducted to determine if a statistically significant relationship exists between the principals perceived leadership behaviors and teachers morale. The two questionnaires used were the Excellent Principal Inventory and the Purdue Teacher Opinionnaire. Leadership behavior clearly impacts teacher morale, and a positive relationship between leadership behavior and teacher morale is evident in several areas. These findings support that teacher morale can be predicted on the basis of the leadership style asserted by the principal. Principals who use a participatory style of leadership are more likely to have more satisfied and productive teachers than principals who use an autocratic style of leadership.

Book Leadership Styles and Teacher Involvement in the Decision Making Process

Download or read book Leadership Styles and Teacher Involvement in the Decision Making Process written by Elizabeth C. Kruth and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to identify leadership strategies employed by school principals that encourage teachers in collaborative decision making. This study provides an overview of literature on administrative styles and collaborative decision making among staff and recognizing that the expertise of teachers promotes shared governance and decision making as teacher input becomes valuable in creating a collegial environment. By completing an interview protocol with principals, several conclusions regarding principal leadership styles, teacher empowerment, and collaborative decision making surfaced as a result of the study. The findings in this study showed a significant correlation between leadership styles implemented by principals and teacher involvement in collaborative decision making. This study presents descriptive findings about collaborative decision making from the perspective of principals who encourage teacher participation in the decision making process regarding school wide issues. This research also noted that all principals studied used several strategies to involve teachers, in varying degrees, to implement shared governance structures and processes to enhance teacher empowerment. The research and results of this study supports the notion of the leadership style of a school administrator having a direct impact on the degree of teacher participation in decision making.

Book The Effectiveness of Leadership Behaviors in Influencing Data Driven Decision Making by Teachers

Download or read book The Effectiveness of Leadership Behaviors in Influencing Data Driven Decision Making by Teachers written by Nicholas Richard Chitwood and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study examined the effect of various district and site level conditions that influence the frequency of teacher data-driven decision-making behaviors. This study is motivated by four research questions: 1) Among various kinds of data available to teachers and principals in making data-driven decisions: a. What is the relative level of availability of that data? b. What is the relative frequency of use of that data? 2) When considering conditions that potentially influence use of evidence at schools, including district office supports, principal leadership behaviors, principal leadership styles, prior training, and attitudes towards data use: a. To what extent do teachers experience these conditions? b. To what extent do principals experience these conditions? 3) To what extent do teachers engage in processes for interpreting evidence at schools? 4) Is there a relationship between types of evidence used by teachers and conditions influencing use of evidence, and the extent to which teachers engage in processes for interpreting evidence at schools? This study integrates a wide range of qualitative research regarding the role of the district office and principals in implementing key supports and conditions for data-driven decision-making, which are then explored through a principal and teacher survey administered to nine principals and 104 teachers from 11 schools. The findings from the research revealed that teachers varied in their use of data, as they reported that academic data was both more available and more widely used than non-academic data such as suspension, attendance, or surveys of teachers or parents. In addition, teachers and principals reported varied conditions supporting data-driven decision-making, with principal leadership behaviors reported to occur frequently, as compared with district office supports. Teachers also self-reported very high levels of data-driven decision-making behaviors. Ultimately, this research supported principal leadership behaviors as being the most positively associated with teacher data-driven decision-making behaviors, with district supports having a weak, but positive relationship to teacher behaviors as well. I conclude with recommendations for district and site leaders seeking to improve data-driven decision-making practices in their own organizations.
