Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Primary Malignant Growths of the Lungs and Bronchi: A Pathological and Clinical Study Had intended that this little monograph on lung tumors should be handed to Professor Arnold on the occasion of the festival held August 19, 1905, to celebrate the seventieth birthday of the master. The plan as originally conceived could not be carried out, but it is hoped that the delay in bringing out the work may not have been alto gether valueless in that it made possible a considerable increase in the volume of the material. Great thanks are due to my friends and assistants, Dr. 0. Hensel and Dr. 0. F. Krehbiel, for their indispensable aid in collecting and sifting the material. I am greatly indebted, as well, to Miss Laura E. Smith, of the Library of the New York Acad emy of Medicine. I wish also to express my sincere thanks to Dr. H. S. Tienken for her untiring interest, un selfish devotion, and technical skill in the proper recording and tabulating of the material, and to Dr. A. L. Garbat and to Miss F. H. Fiske for the strenuous work of seeing it through the press. Finally, I would acknowledge my debt to Dr. F. S. Mandlebaum of New York and to Professor S. B. Wolbach of Boston for the very beautiful photographs used here as illustrations. The author dares to hope for kindly criticism and some renewed interest in the subject. I. Adler. Book Radiology Illustrated Chest Radiology

Download or read book Radiology Illustrated Chest Radiology written by Kyung Soo Lee and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-29 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this atlas is to illustrate how to achieve reliable diagnoses when confronted by the different abnormalities, or “disease patterns”, that may be visualized on CT scans of the chest. The task of pattern recognition has been greatly facilitated by the advent of multidetector CT (MDCT), and the focus of the book is very much on the role of state-of-the-art MDCT. A wide range of disease patterns and distributions are covered, with emphasis on the typical imaging characteristics of the various focal and diffuse lung diseases. In addition, clinical information relevant to differential diagnosis is provided and the underlying gross and microscopic pathology is depicted, permitting CT–pathology correlation. The entire information relevant to each disease pattern is also tabulated for ease of reference. This book will be an invaluable handy tool that will enable the reader to quickly and easily reach a diagnosis appropriate to the pattern of lung abnormality identified on CT scans.

Book Comparative Interpretation of CT and Standard Radiography of the Chest

Download or read book Comparative Interpretation of CT and Standard Radiography of the Chest written by Emmanuel E. Coche and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-01-18 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Standard radiography of the chest remains one of the most widely used imaging modalities but it can be difficult to interpret. The possibility of producing cross-sectional, reformatted 2D and 3D images with CT makes this technique an ideal tool for reinterpreting standard radiography of the chest. The aim of this book is to provide a comprehensive overview of chest radiography interpretation by means of a side-by-side comparison between chest radiographs and CT images. Introductory chapters address the indications for and difficulties of chest radiography as well as the technical and practical aspects of CT reconstruction and image comparison. Thereafter, the radiographic and CT presentations of both anatomical variants and a wide range of diseases and disorders are illustrated and discussed by renowned experts in thoracic imaging. The book is complemented by online extra material which provides many further educational examples.

Book How Tobacco Smoke Causes Disease

Download or read book How Tobacco Smoke Causes Disease written by and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 728 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report considers the biological and behavioral mechanisms that may underlie the pathogenicity of tobacco smoke. Many Surgeon General's reports have considered research findings on mechanisms in assessing the biological plausibility of associations observed in epidemiologic studies. Mechanisms of disease are important because they may provide plausibility, which is one of the guideline criteria for assessing evidence on causation. This report specifically reviews the evidence on the potential mechanisms by which smoking causes diseases and considers whether a mechanism is likely to be operative in the production of human disease by tobacco smoke. This evidence is relevant to understanding how smoking causes disease, to identifying those who may be particularly susceptible, and to assessing the potential risks of tobacco products.
