This book was released on 2004 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Grade-specific price projections were once again developed for Douglas-fir, coast hem-fir, inland hem-fir, and ponderosa pine lumber. These grade-specific price projections can be used to demonstrate the returns to land management of practices that lead to high-quality logs that produce a larger proportion of high grades of lumber. The price ratios among low, medium, and high grade groupings have been consistent, and interest in these S2high-qualityS3 forestry regimes has been persistent.
Download or read book Emergent Lessons from a Century of Experience with Pacific Northwest Timber Markets written by Richard W. Haynes and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2009-05 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Timber markets in the U.S. are areas where timber prices tend to be uniform because of the continuous interactions of buyers and sellers. These markets are highly competitive, volatile, and change relentlessly. This report looks at how market interactions in the Pacific Northwest have responded to changes in underlying determinants of market behavior and government actions that have influenced supply or demand. Several messages emerge from timber markets about price reporting and changing definitions of price, long-term price trends, timber as an investment, impacts of market intervention, relations among different markets, and implications for future stewardship. Charts, tables and graphs.

Download or read book Estimating Consumer Willingness to Pay a Price Premium for Alaska Secondary Wood Products written by Geoffrey H. Donovan and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dichotomous choice contingent valuation survey techniques were used to estimate mean willingness to pay (WTP) a price premium for made-in-Alaska secondary wood products. Respondents were asked to compare two superficially identical end tables, one made in China and one made in Alaska. The surveys were administered at home shows in Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Sitka in March and April 2002. Results indicated that, on average, respondents were willing to pay an additional $82 for the Alaskamade table, above a base price of $50. The 95 percent confidence bounds on this estimate of mean WTP are $68.10 and $96.10. Survey design and sample demographics are discussed as possible upward biases on the mean WTP for the Alaskamade table. Despite these possible biases, we concluded that place of manufacture is a significant competitive advantage for Alaska secondary wood product manufacturers marketing their products in Alaska.

Download or read book Projections of Timber Harvest in Western Oregon and Washington by County Owner Forest Type and Age Class written by Xiaoping Zhou and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Pacific Northwest forest resource is highly dynamic. Expected changes over the next 50 years will greatly challenge some current perceptions of resource managers and various stakeholders. This report describes the current and expected future timberland conditions of western Oregon and Washington and presents the results at the county level. About 50 percent of the timber removals in this region will come from 10 west-side counties, and Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii (Mirb.) Franco) will remain the major species removed. Forest industry will account for 50 percent of the total harvest in the Pacific Northwest West. Some inferences about the attributes of future timber and its utilization will be drawn from the projections at the county level over the next half century.
