Download or read book A Practical Guide to Reduce Caregiver Stress and Prevent Caregiver Burnout written by Robert Grice and published by . This book was released on 2019-09-07 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Love for one's neighbor is a primary virtue in many religions including in Christianity. Caregiving is a noble act of service and an ultimate demonstration of love for one's neighbor. The story of the Good Samaritan is a prime example of how one can make the choice to become a caregiver for others in need. Despite the virtue of caregiving, the act of service is inherently stressful. Stress is not a respecter of persons because it affect all though everyone responds to stress differently. This book offers helpful suggestions for how to deal with the stress of caregiving and avoid stress leading to burnout. Several recommendations are offered for how to develop a strategy for responding to and managing stress rather than allowing stress to manage us.

At least 17.7 million individuals in the United States are caregivers of an older adult with a health or functional limitation. The nation's family caregivers provide the lion's share of long-term care for our older adult population. They are also central to older adults' access to and receipt of health care and community-based social services. Yet the need to recognize and support caregivers is among the least appreciated challenges facing the aging U.S. population. Families Caring for an Aging America examines the prevalence and nature of family caregiving of older adults and the available evidence on the effectiveness of programs, supports, and other interventions designed to support family caregivers. This report also assesses and recommends policies to address the needs of family caregivers and to minimize the barriers that they encounter in trying to meet the needs of older adults.

Book Challenges in Older Women s Health

Download or read book Challenges in Older Women s Health written by Heidi W. Brown and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-06-08 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The number of Americans 65 years of age or older is projected to more than double to over 98 million by 2060, making them 24% of the overall population. Women constitute more than 50% of this group. Most clinicians who provide primary care for older women receive minimal training about their unique health issues and needs during residency however, and few resources exist to guide them regarding these issues in practice. This book provides user-friendly, evidence-based guidance to manage common challenges in healthcare for women during menopause and beyond, filling a huge and growing unmet need for primary care clinicians. Edited by a multidisciplinary team with content expert authors from family medicine, oncology, urogynecology, obstetrics and gynecology, psychology, and more, this text provides clinically relevant information about important conditions impacting the health of older women, including suggested guidelines for management and helpful resources for patient counselling and care. The first half of the book covers general topics such as menopause, bone health, depression and grief, cancer survivorship, and obesity. The second half focuses on issues below the belt that are difficult to talk about, such as incontinence, vulvar pathology, and sexual health after menopause. While there is copious literature about the menopausal transition, few resources for clinicians exist about caring for women beyond the 6th decade. Challenges in Older Women’s Health: A primer for clinicians provides focused, evidence-based information about high-yield topics for a too often neglected group of patients.

Book Avoiding Caregiver Burnout

Download or read book Avoiding Caregiver Burnout written by Karla Berenice Roldan and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Being able to cope with the strains and stresses of being a caregiver is part of the art of caregiving. In order to remain healthy so that individuals can continue to be caregivers, they must be able to see their own limitations and learn to care for themselves as well as others. This workshop is designed for mothers of children with autism who are experiencing signs of caregiver burnout, such as ongoing fatigue, depression, withdrawal from social contacts, change in eating habits, decrease in productivity, feelings of hopelessness and helplessness, stress, anxiety, and physical, mental, and emotional exhaustion. This is a one-day, eight hour workshop facilitated by a mental health professional specializing in working with children with autism and their families. The goal of the workshop is to help mothers recognize the physical, psychological, emotional, social, and financial stressors associated with caring for a special needs child. By identifying such stressors, parents are better able to implement positive and healthy ways of coping with the high demands of caring for a child with autism in hopes of avoiding caregiver burnout. The workshop will achieve its goal by providing participants with helpful resources, tips, information, support, and effective strategies which can help minimize the burdens of caregiving and help maximize their own quality of life, ultimately improving their own caregiving skills.

Book Taking Action Against Clinician Burnout

Download or read book Taking Action Against Clinician Burnout written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2020-01-02 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Patient-centered, high-quality health care relies on the well-being, health, and safety of health care clinicians. However, alarmingly high rates of clinician burnout in the United States are detrimental to the quality of care being provided, harmful to individuals in the workforce, and costly. It is important to take a systemic approach to address burnout that focuses on the structure, organization, and culture of health care. Taking Action Against Clinician Burnout: A Systems Approach to Professional Well-Being builds upon two groundbreaking reports from the past twenty years, To Err Is Human: Building a Safer Health System and Crossing the Quality Chasm: A New Health System for the 21st Century, which both called attention to the issues around patient safety and quality of care. This report explores the extent, consequences, and contributing factors of clinician burnout and provides a framework for a systems approach to clinician burnout and professional well-being, a research agenda to advance clinician well-being, and recommendations for the field.

Download or read book It s My Life Too written by and published by . This book was released on 2017-06 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It's My Life Too!, is based on David Nassaney's popular radio show, Dave, The Caregiver's Caregiver Radio Program, which is a practical self-help book that empowers those new to long-term caregiving to provide top-quality care to their loved ones while avoiding burnout, and having satisfying, fulfilling lives of their own.Long-term caregivers desperately need this information because burnout is currently at epidemic proportions. One third of the U.S. population is currently caring for a loved one without receiving any compensation, and have put their lives and careers on hold for an undetermined period of time. They often feel like they are in caregiver prison, and become isolated, hopeless and depressed. As the baby boomers continue to age, these numbers will only increase. It has been said that there are three types of people in the world; those who are caregivers, those who will become caregivers, and those who will need a caregiver.Reputable studies have indicated that caregiver stress and burnout can shorten a caregiver's life by as much as four to eight years. While the primary focus of care usually concentrates on the person who has suffered an accident, illness or condition that renders them dependent on the care of others, we are realizing that the primary caregiver, often a spouse, child or parent, usually shoulders the responsibility and is also in need of assistance. It's My Life Too! provides encouragement and easy-to-implement steps to prevent caregiver burnout. Caregivers who are already exhibiting symptoms of burnout will also be able to apply these same techniques and insights to immediately decrease stress and the significant health dangers to their own wellbeing. When a crisis occurs, and a loved one has an accident or medical emergency, the caregiver is plunged into a complex redefinition of their role that affects their self-image of who they had to become to survive this new and unexpected occupation.
