This material will benefit you on the topics of car theft, insurance fraud, and personal safety; topics of concern for every motor vehicle driver. Add to this subject Mr. Meyer's knowledge of Martial Arts; which has its core, the value of preparation, observation, and proactive defensive. Together they are a perfect example towards the creation of effective risk management to reduce "real world" risks. And together you have a new and comprehensive resource on a subject that has been present since the beginning of the automobile. Everyone who drives a motor vehicle has the exposures covered in this material. We all want to protect the significant value of our vehicle. But more importantly, we need to protect ourselves from personal harm. While on the surface the topics presented may seem hard wired into our minds, in reality they need to be visited and revisited. They need to be shared with both new drivers and drivers of all ages. -Sam S. Revenson President Associated Risk Management "Jon Meyer has packed this small book with dozens of great tips for the safety conscious public. There is an old saying 'An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.' This book is a pound of prevention." Prof. Arthur Cohen B.A., M.A. a.k.a. Book excerpt: Car crime has become a source of increasing concern in recent years. This study takes a detailed look at the perspective of those actually involved in stealing cars, giving some useful insights into the reasons why young people get involved and how their stealing might be stopped. The authors suggest that an important element in preventing further problems would be to provide diversions which offer thieves a comparable degree of excitement and interest to that which they get from stealing cars. Early intervention by criminal justice and social welfare agencies seems central to any preventive action, in order to curb the frequent progression from 'joyriding' to making money from stealing cars.

Download or read book Car Crime written by Claire Corbett and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-01-11 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Crime involving cars – whether involving offences by drivers or theft of and from cars – represents a substantial proportion of offences committed, and occupies an enormous amount of police time. But it is not always perceived as the serious crime that it is: many traffic offences cause enormous harm in terms of death and injury, but are often not regarded seriously by drivers, the criminal justice system and the state. Other than theft of and from cars it is arguable that car crime is socially constructed as 'not real crime' or 'not even crime'. This book is the first to survey the whole area of car crime. It considers car crime as a coherent whole, addressing the concept of car culture; considers car crime in its various guides in relation to issues such as masculinity, gender, car usage and the environment; considers the historical roots of legislation concerning crime committed in the car, through to current legislation and its effects and implications. The book also addresses issues of crime prevention, and in particular the role of car manufacturers in making cars more crime proof.

The focus throughout this book is on ethical and effective ways to reduce crime-related harms. There are chapters on how to target crime prevention efforts, crime prevention theories and frameworks, ethical issues in crime prevention, the practical conduct of crime prevention, evidence-based crime prevention, the politics of crime prevention, and the need for continuous adaptation in crime prevention. Student readers will obtain an overview of, and capacity critically to engage with, crime prevention theory and practice.
