Book Review of Critical Flow Rate Propagation of Pressure Pulse and Sonic Velocity in Two phase Media

Download or read book Review of Critical Flow Rate Propagation of Pressure Pulse and Sonic Velocity in Two phase Media written by Yih-Yun Hsu and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For single-phase media, the critical discharge velocity, the sonic velocity, and the pressure pulse propagation velocity can be expressed in the same form by assuming isentropic, equilibria processes. In two-phase mixtures, the same concept is not valid due to the existence of interfacial transports of momentum, heat, and mass. Thus, the three velocities should be treated differently and separately for each particular condition, taking into account the various transport processes involved under that condition. This report reviews various attempts to predict the critical discharge rate or the propagation velocities by considering slip ratio (momentum change), evaporation (mass and heat transport), flow pattern, etc. Experimental data were compared with predictions based on various theorems. The importance is stressed of the time required to achieve equilibrium as compared with the time available during the process, for example, of passing a pressure pulse.

Book Pressure Wave Propagation in Adiabatic Two phase Flow

Download or read book Pressure Wave Propagation in Adiabatic Two phase Flow written by Rowland Grayson Evans and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At present there is a lack of reliable data on the propagation velocity of pressure waves in flowing gas-liquid two-phase systems in the void fraction range from roughly fifty to ninety-five per cent. Classical methods of measuring acoustic velocity such as the acoustic interferometer are shown to be unsuitable for this void fraction range. A technique was developed in which the velocity and strength of shock waves traveling in the mixture was measured. Then by extrapolating the results to a shock wave pressure ratio of unity, the local acoustic velocity is obtained. Measurements of the acoustic velocity were made in a flowing air-water mixture near the inlet and exit of a half-inch diameter vertical pipe fourteen feet in length. These measurements were correlated with the results of void fraction measurements made with quick-closing valves and phase distribution measurements made with an electrical resistance probe. The effect of inlet conditions was investigated by injecting the water along the wall through a porous section, and then repeating the measurements with the water injected at the center with an axial nozzle. Mass velocities used were from 2.57 to 1,310,000 lb/hr.(sq. ft.), void fractions measured were from 0.565 to 0.981, and flow regimes observed were slug, annular, and mist flow. The data indicate that the propagation of acoustic signals is done primarily through the core of the flow. Hence conditions in the core, particularly density inhomogeneities and inlet effects, govern the propagation characteristics. The core propagation model developed offers a logical explanation of the disagreement between existing data and theory. (Author).

Book Combustion of Two Phase Reactive Media

Download or read book Combustion of Two Phase Reactive Media written by L. P. Yarin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 570 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Combustion of Two-Phase Reactive Media addresses the complex phenomena involved in the burning of solid and liquid fuels. In fact, the multiplicity of phenomena characteristic of combustion of two-phase media determine the contents. The three parts deal with: the dynamics of a single particle; combustion wave propagation in two-phase reactive media; and thermal regimes of combustion reactors. The book generalizes the results of numerous investigations into the ignition and combustion of solid particles, droplets and bubbles, combustion wave propagation in heterogeneous reactive media, the stability of combustion of two-phase media, as well as the thermal regimes of high-temperature combustion reactors. It merges findings from the authors’ investigations into problems of two-phase flows and material from graduate-level courses they teach at Technion-Israel Institute of Technology.

Book Wave Propagation in Gas Liquid Media

Download or read book Wave Propagation in Gas Liquid Media written by V. E. Nakoryakov and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1993-06-28 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wave Propagation in Gas-Liquid Media (translated from the Russian 2nd Edition, published in 1990) presents the fundamentals of wave dynamics of two-phase gas-liquid systems. The study of multiphase systems is of growing importance in mechanics and thermophysics, particularly for applications in industrial, energy, power, chemical, and aerospace engineering. This book presents investigations of non-linear wave dynamics, as well as practical applications of wave motion. A system of non-stationary gas-dynamics to replace studies of conventional gas-dynamics is constructed by the book's contributors. Topics discussed include acoustics and shock waves in homogenous gas- and vapor-liquid mixtures, dynamics of gas and vapor bubbles, wave processes in gas-liquid systems, wave propagation in a liquid with vapor bubbles, wave processes on the interface of two media, wave flow of liquid films, and basic calculation formulas for wave dynamics of gas- and vapor-liquid media. The book will be a useful reference for thermophysicists, mechanical engineers, and aerospace engineers.

Book IUTAM Symposium on Waves in Liquid Gas and Liquid Vapour Two Phase Systems

Download or read book IUTAM Symposium on Waves in Liquid Gas and Liquid Vapour Two Phase Systems written by Shigeki Morioka and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A IUTAM symposium on 'Waves in Liquid/Gas and Liquid/Vapor Two-Phase Systems' was held in Kyoto, Japan, 9-13 May 1994. Sixty-three scientists partici pated coming from ten countries, and forty-two lectures were presented. The list of participants and the program are included in this volume. The symposium was held in response to the request of the participants in the IUTAM symposium 'Adiabatic Waves in Liquid-Vapor System' held at Gottingen in 1989. At that time, the need for another symposium in about five years had been indicated by all the participants. This symposium intends to develop the subject of wave properties in more general liquid-gas two-phase systems. Topics in this symposium may be classified as (1) waves in liquid-gas bubble systems including interfacial effects, (2) waves in gas( vapor )-droplets systems, (3) waves in films or stratified systems, (4) waves with liquid-vapor transition, (5) waves with vapor-liquid transition, (6) wave propagation near the critical point and (7) waves with low pressure effect. As for topic (1), experiments, numerical simulations and analytical approaches to waves in bubly liquids were discussed. The importance of interbubble interactions through the liquid-field is now well established at least in terms of potential theory. There was also a progress concerning the well-posedness of governing equations for void waves. For pressure waves there were some new phenomena, such as bubble cluster formation and the occurrence of three-dimensional structures, in addition to a progress from more qualitative studies to quantitative ones.
