Book Assessing the Vulnerability of Great Lakes Coastal Wetlands to Climate Change

Download or read book Assessing the Vulnerability of Great Lakes Coastal Wetlands to Climate Change written by and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The ability to identify ecologically vulnerable coastal wetlands is a significant advancement in conservation and environmental management for the Great Lakes ecosystem. In this study, a team of Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) scientists used a novel, science-based framework to assess the vulnerability of 20 Canadian coastal wetlands to climate change across Lakes Ontario, Erie, St. Clair, and Huron, as well as the St. Marys, Detroit, and St. Lawrence Rivers. Two coastal wetland study sites originally selected for Lake Superior were not included in the final assessment. The study improves the understanding of climate change vulnerability by integrating new regional climate and lake-level projections, modelled wetland responses and sensitivity, and the capacity of wetlands to adapt to climate disturbances based on current biological and physical factors"--Executive summary, page 6.

Book The Late Great Lakes

With the longest continuous coastline in the United States, they hold one-fifth of the world's freshwater supply. Author William Ashworth presents a compelling history of the Great Lakes, from their formation in the Ice Age, to their "discovery" by Samuel de Champlian in 1615, and, finally, to their impending death in our time. Ashworth systematically deals with the wild life that once flourished in the region-beaver, salmon, whitefish, and trout-and describes the threatening elements which have displaced them-the predatory sea lamprey, the alewives, toxic waste, and volatile solids.
