Book Effect of Pretreatment Conditions on Catalytic Performances of Mesoporous Ni5 SBA 15 Catalyst in Methane Dry Reforming

Download or read book Effect of Pretreatment Conditions on Catalytic Performances of Mesoporous Ni5 SBA 15 Catalyst in Methane Dry Reforming written by Charbel Harika and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 41 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Researchers have been studying dry reforming of methane (DRM) to produce syngas, a mixture of hydrogen and carbon monoxide, from methane and carbon dioxide. In this study, catalysts containing 5% wt Ni dispersed on SBA-15 support were prepared by "two solvent impregnation" method. Without prior calcination, three samples were pretreated by reduction under different atmospheres (H2/Ar, N2, Ar) at 450°C with a heating rate of 0.5°C/min. Two other samples were reduced under H2/Ar but at different temperatures and heating rates (650°C with 10°C/min, and 450°C with 0.5°C/min). After the catalysts characterization (N2 sorption, XRD and TPR) and the catalytic tests (activity and stability), Ni5/SBA-15(U-H2) (reduced under H2/Ar at 450°C with a heating rate 0.5°C/min) showed the best catalytic performance among the other catalysts studied. The behavior of Ni5/SBA-15(U-H2) is close to the behavior of Ni5/SBA-15 calcined at 450°C with a heating rate 0.5°C/min.

Book Dry Reforming of Methane on Nickel Dispersed on Mesoporous Silica

Download or read book Dry Reforming of Methane on Nickel Dispersed on Mesoporous Silica written by Joudie Youssef and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The reduction of greenhouse gases utilization and emission is the main interest of the scientists all over the world. Dry reforming of methane (DRM) is gaining more attention, due to its consumption of two greenhouse gases, namely methane and carbon dioxide, and its production of syngas. Moreover, the products ratio (1:1) of H2: CO is suitable for Fishcher-Tropsch synthesis. DRM is highly endothermic and requires severe conditions to proceed thermodynamically. Thus, the main challenge is the design a catalyst that can maintain its activity and stability under the reaction conditions. Noble metals have showed great catalytic activity and stability when used as an active phase in DRM catalysts. However, their use is not favored to economic an accessibility reasons. Nickel-based catalysts are an affordable and available promising alternative for noble metals. Thus, Nickel was used as an active phase in this study. The mesoporous based silica support, Santa-Barbara Amorphous material (SBA-15), used as catalytic supports in DRM, provide good dispersion of the active phase and good prevention to sintering. Thus SBA-15 is chosen as a support for Nickel in this study. The main focus of this thesis is to study the effect of the modifications made during SBA-15 synthesis (acidity, stirring rate, hydrothermal treatment, etc) on the activity/stability performance of Ni-based catalyst. In this study, eight supports SBA-15(x) were prepared and characterized by N2 sorption and showed different textural properties. Then, all the samples were impregnated with 5wt % Nickel using the two solvent impregnation method. Finally, eight catalysts Ni5/SBA-15(x) are obtained. The calcined fresh samples are characterized by N2 sorption, TPR, TEM, SEM and XRD. The results suggest similar SBA-15 structures with a small difference in grains shape .In addition, differences in Nickel particles size and localization are observed. A good dispersion of the Nickel particles is noted for all the catalysts. Catalytic activities are measured with a GHSV of 3600mL.g-1.h-1 at temperatures ranging from 200 to 800°C and atmospheric pressure. Stability measurements are conducted with the same GHSV at a fixed temperature of 650°C for 12 hours. The catalysts showed high activity and selectivity toward DRM. No significant deactivation is observed throughout the stability test. The characterizations by SEM and XRD after the test indicate that no sintering took place. The main cause of the small deactivation is due to coke deposition. Further studies of the spent catalysts by TEM are required to determine the type of coke deposited.

Book An Economy Based on Carbon Dioxide and Water

Download or read book An Economy Based on Carbon Dioxide and Water written by Michele Aresta and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-07-01 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to CO2 capture and utilization (CCU) from a green, biotechnological and economic perspective, and presents the potential of, and the bottlenecks and breakthroughs in converting a stable molecule such as CO2 into specialty chemicals and materials or energy-rich compounds. The use of renewable energy (solar, wind, geothermal, hydro) and non-fossil hydrogen is a must for converting large volumes of CO2 into energy products, and as such, the authors explore and compare the availability of hydrogen from water using these sources with that using oil or methane. Divided into 13 chapters, the book offers an analysis of the conditions under which CO2 utilization is possible, and discusses CO2 capture from concentrated sources and the atmosphere. It also analyzes the technological (non-chemical) uses of CO2, carbonation of basic minerals and industrial sludge, and the microbial-catalytic-electrochemical-photoelectrochemical-plasma conversion of CO2 into chemicals and energy products. Further, the book provides examples of advanced bioelectrochemical syntheses and RuBisCO engineering, as well as a techno-energetic and economic analysis of CCU. Written by leading international experts, this book offers a unique perspective on the potential of the various technologies discussed, and a vision for a sustainable future. Intended for graduates with a good understanding of chemistry, catalysis, biotechnology, electrochemistry and photochemistry, it particularly appeals to researchers (in academia and industry) and university teachers.

Book Catalysts for Syngas Production

Download or read book Catalysts for Syngas Production written by Javier Ereña Loizaga and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2020-12-10 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Special Issue on “Catalysts for Syngas Production”, included in the Catalysts open access journal, shows new research about the development of catalysts and catalytic routes for syngas production, and the optimization of the reaction conditions for the process. This issue includes ten articles about the different innovative processes for syngas production. Synthesis gas (or syngas) is a mixture of hydrogen and carbon monoxide, with different chemical composition and H2/CO molar ratios, depending on the feedstock and production technology used. Syngas may be obtained from alternative sources to oil, such as natural gas, coal, biomass, organic wastes, etc. Syngas is a very good intermediate for the production of high value compounds at the industrial scale, such as hydrogen, methanol, liquid fuels, and a wide range of chemicals. Accordingly, efforts should be made on the co-feeding of CO2 with syngas, as an alternative for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, more syngas will be required in the near future, in order to satisfy the demand for synfuels and high value chemicals.

Book Synthesis and Characterization of Sba 15 and Cu sba 15 Catalysts for Photoreduction of Carbon Dioxide

Download or read book Synthesis and Characterization of Sba 15 and Cu sba 15 Catalysts for Photoreduction of Carbon Dioxide written by Mohd Ridzuan Azis and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 49 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The greenhouse effect is a process by which thermal radiation from a planetary surface is absorbed by atmospheric greenhouse gases, and is re-radiated in all directions. The increasing concentrations of the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, where the major contribution comes from carbon dioxide (CO2). The result from a continued increase in CO2 concentration will cause major changes in global climate .Due to high concentration of CO2 in the environment, advanced oxidation process (AOP) was proposed. AOP is a process in which the oxidative capacity of a parent compound is modified to make oxidation-reduction reactions more rapid or complete. Due to the best properties that it can retain at high themperature and thermal stability SBA-15 has been chosen as catalysts. SBA-15 and Cu supported mesoporous siliceous SBA-15catalysts have been prepared by direct synthesis methods and wetness impregnation method, respectively and are systematically characterized. The characterizations of the synthesized samples were done using Fourier Transforms Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Thermal Gravimetric analysis (TGA) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The FTIR analysis shows that when SBA-15 was doped with copper, the % transmittance of the spectral had decreased. From the SEM analysis, the surface morphology of SBA-15 was changed from smooth to course and irregular structure due to existence of Cu in SBA-15. XRD measurement shows that the amorphous phase for pure SBA-15 was changed to crystalline phase when Cu was deposited into SBA-15 proving that Cu present in the SBA-15 structure. The TGA analysis shows that with existence of Cu in SBA-15, enhanced the thermal stability properties of catalysts. Thermo gravimetric analysis shows that the copper deposition on SBA-15 is stable up to a temperature of 515 °C and that the copper decomposes between 515 °C and 798 °C. The results of the FTIR, SEM, XRD and TGA testify completely that the Cu was incorporated into the framework sites of the SBA-15.
