Book excerpt: An unconventional young woman. A haunted young man. A forbidden instrument. Can their love of music bring them together . . . or will it tear them apart? Bath, England 1810 At twenty-eight, Alethea Sutherton is past her prime for courtship; but social mores have never been her forté. She might be a lady, but she is first and foremost a musician. In Regency England, however, the violin is considered an inappropriate instrument for a lady. Ostracized by society for her passion, Alethea practices in secret and waits for her chance to flee to the Continent, where she can play without scandal. But when a thief ’s interest in her violin endangers her and her family, Alethea is determined to discover the enigmatic origins of her instrument … with the help of the dark, brooding Lord Dommick. Scarred by war, Dommick finds solace only in playing his violin. He is persuaded to help Alethea, and discovers an entirely new yearning in his soul. Alethea finds her reluctant heart drawn to Dommick in the sweetest of duets . . . just as the thief’s desperation builds to a tragic crescendo . . . Praise for Prelude for a Lord: “A vibrant, page-turning romance sure to delight fans of the Regency Era.” – Sarah E. Ladd, award-winning author of The Headmistress of Rosemere Sweet, full-length Regency romance Will appeal to fans of Bridgerton and Poldark Stand-alone novel

Book excerpt: “This is a series of stories of what it looks like to walk with God, over the course of about a year.” So begins a remarkable narrative of one man’s journey learning to hear the voice of God. The details are intimate and personal. The invitation is for us all. What if we could hear from God . . . often? What difference would it make? We have a lot to sort through on any given day. A whole lot to navigate over the course of a week or a month. Am I in the right place? The right relationships? How am I going to come up with enough money to do the things I want to do? And what about love—is this the one? Will it last? What is causing all those fears I keep pushing down inside? Why can’t I overcome those “habits” that look more and more like addictions? Am I at the right church? Should I even go to church? What is God doing in my life? All day long we are making choices. It adds up to an enormous amount of decisions in a lifetime. How do we know what to do? We have two options. We can trudge through on our own, doing our best to figure it all out. Or, we can walk with God. As in, learn to hear his voice. Really. We can live life with God. He offers to speak to us and guide us. Every day. It is an incredible offer. To accept that offer is to enter into an adventure filled with joy and risk, transformation and breakthrough. And more clarity than we ever thought possible.

Book Barbarian Eye

Download or read book Barbarian Eye written by Priscilla Hayter Napier and published by Potomac Books. This book was released on 1995 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This delightfully written book tells the story of William John Napier, 9th Lord Napier of Merchiston, who was sent to China in 1834, not to stop the opium smuggling (by which all local officials profited hugely), but to seek a settlement between the British sea-traders and the Cantonese authorities. Known at home as a brave and sensible sailor who had started his career at Trafalgar, William John was noted for his calm and patience. He was at once seen by the Chinese authorities as a dangerous spy - a 'Barbarian Eye'. Though biographical in character, based largely upon Lord Napier's own letters and journals, the book gives an admirable insight into the story of Western contacts over the centuries with the world's oldest and surely, most remarkable civilisation and a charming description of life in England and Scotland in the early 19th century, including life in the court of King William IV, Lord Napier's close friend and master.

  • Publisher : Plain & Precious Publishing
  • Release : 2016-10-31

  • Pages : 366 pages

Download or read book Apocalypse written by Randal S. Chase and published by Plain & Precious Publishing. This book was released on 2016-10-31 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Apocalypse: The Great Day of the Lord for the Righteous is a positive look at the positive events of the Apocalypse. Just saying the word brings to mind the idea of mass destruction. Many think of a fiery end to life on earth or of zombies shuffling ominously through the streets. Focusing on the negative makes it an unpleasant subject. Contrary to these ideas, this book on the Apocalypse focuses on the great blessings that the righteous will receive when the Lord comes—a great and glorious day with no fear of the destruction that will simultaneously come down upon the heads of the wicked. For the wicked, it will indeed be a dreadful day, and they will call upon the mountains and rocks to hide them when the full fury of the Lord's anger is poured out upon them (see Revelation 6:16). For the righteous, it will be a day of unimaginable joy—a day of resurrection, of peace, of safety, and of living under the rule of our Eternal King, the Lord Jesus Christ. If we remember this, we can more fully appreciate the "great day" aspect of the Second Coming of Christ, as opposed to a fearful approach. That is the purpose of this book, so that we, along with the Apostle John on the Isle of Patmos, will feel to say, "Even so, come, Lord Jesus[!]" (Revelation 22:20). The cover features a stunning image of the Lord descending through the clouds of glory, as painted by Del Parson.

Book Are We to the Prelude of Those Times That Jesus Spoke About

Download or read book Are We to the Prelude of Those Times That Jesus Spoke About written by Rev. Wilguymps Charles and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2018-06-20 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The glorious return of Jesus Christ is a certain and unavoidable fact that several events indicate the approach; however, the date and time are not known. I think that it might be on purpose that God let us in ignorance in this regard in order to stimulate our vigilance. My greatest wish is that it is used to open the eyes of all the believers who look forward to the day of abduction to realize in what era they live. If they are sleeping spiritually, it is time for them to wake up for the clock of time indicates that it is getting very late. I also want this book to represent a last warning addressed to the rebels and the unbelievers that they need to settle their matters as quickly as possible by accepting Jesus Christ as their personal Savior for soon the world will be in distress.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a book about a brother and a sister. It's a book about secrets and starting over, friendship and family, triumph and tragedy, and everything in between. More than anything, it's a book about love in all its forms. In a remarkably honest and confident voice, Sarah Winman has written the story of a memorable young heroine, Elly, and her loss of innocence-a magical portrait of growing up and the pull and power of family ties. From Essex and Cornwall to the streets of New York, from 1968 to the events of 9/11, When God Was a Rabbit follows the evolving bond of love and secrets between Elly and her brother Joe, and her increasing concern for an unusual best friend, Jenny Penny, who has secrets of her own. With its wit and humor, engaging characters whose eccentricities are adroitly and sometimes darkly drawn, and its themes of memory and identity, When God Was a Rabbit is a love letter to true friendship and fraternal love. Funny, utterly compelling, fully of sparkle, and poignant, too, When God Was a Rabbit heralds the start of a remarkable new literary career.
