Download or read book Strength and Ductility of Bainitic Steels written by Donald H. Desy and published by . This book was released on 1957 with total page 898 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some of the factors believed to affect the strength and ductile-to-brittle transition temperature of bainitic steels, including mean ferrite path and degree of internal strain, have been studied. Strength was measured by diamond pyramid hardness, and transition temperature was obtained from a tensile impact test on small notched specimens. Seven laboratory heats of carbon-molybdenum steel and two heats of carbon steel were transformed isothermally to bainite at various temperatures and tested. Mean-ferrite-path measurements were made on electron micrographs of three of these steels. The mean ferrite path was found to have only a slight effect on the strength of bainite and no effect on the transition temperature. Preliminary measurements of X-ray line broadening indicate that the degree of internal strain may be the controlling factor in determining the strength of bainite. The transition temperatures of the bainites fell within a band between -80 and -160 degrees C and did not vary regularly with hardness, carbon or alloy content, or mean ferrite path. In the SAE 1062 steel at high strength levels, bainite has a transition temperature lower than that of tempered martensite at the same strength level.

Download or read book The Biokinetics of Flying and Swimming written by Akira Azuma and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From a mechanical perspective, an animal's shape and the topological connection of its organs are important factors in locomotion. This book describes the physical relationships between form, habitat, way of life, and movement in living creatures. It includes in-depth mechanical and mathematical analyses of the way in which creatures move about, and it also investigates dispersal modes of plants and animals within the framework of flying and swimming. The book is written from the viewpoint of mechanics, specifically fluid dynamics and flight dynamics, rather than from that of physiology and ecology. It will prove a useful reference for aeronautical and mechanical engineers as well as for biologists who use mechanical analyses in the study of behaviour, function, and locomotion.

Download or read book Introduction to Nonlinear Aeroelasticity written by Grigorios Dimitriadis and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2017-03-10 with total page 944 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introduction to Nonlinear Aeroelasticity Introduces the latest developments and technologies in the area of nonlinear aeroelasticity Nonlinear aeroelasticity has become an increasingly popular research area in recent years. There have been many driving forces behind this development, increasingly flexible structures, nonlinear control laws, materials with nonlinear characteristics and so on. Introduction to Nonlinear Aeroelasticity covers the theoretical basics in nonlinear aeroelasticity and applies the theory to practical problems. As nonlinear aeroelasticity is a combined topic, necessitating expertise from different areas, the book introduces methodologies from a variety of disciplines such as nonlinear dynamics, bifurcation analysis, unsteady aerodynamics, non-smooth systems and others. The emphasis throughout is on the practical application of the theories and methods, so as to enable the reader to apply their newly acquired knowledge Key features: Covers the major topics in nonlinear aeroelasticity, from the galloping of cables to supersonic panel flutter Discusses nonlinear dynamics, bifurcation analysis, numerical continuation, unsteady aerodynamics and non-smooth systems Considers the practical application of the theories and methods Covers nonlinear dynamics, bifurcation analysis and numerical methods Accompanied by a website hosting Matlab code Introduction to Nonlinear Aeroelasticity is a comprehensive reference for researchers and workers in industry and is also a useful introduction to the subject for graduate and undergraduate students across engineering disciplines.

This book was released on 1956 with total page 692 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theoretically derived charts showing steady-state and first- and second-harmonic flapping coefficients are presented for helicopter rotors having hinged rectangular blades with a linear twist of 0, -8, and -16 degrees. The charts, showing the rotor flapping coefficients for combinations of inflow ratio and blade pitch angle, are presented for tip-speed ratios ranging from 0.05 to 0.50.
