Book Relationship of Stump Diameter to Diameter at Breast Height for Seven Tree Species in Arizona and New Mexico Classic Reprint

Download or read book Relationship of Stump Diameter to Diameter at Breast Height for Seven Tree Species in Arizona and New Mexico Classic Reprint written by David W. Hann and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-13 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Relationship of Stump Diameter to Diameter at Breast Height for Seven Tree Species in Arizona and New Mexico DS stump diameter, inside bark, in inches An examination of residuals indicated that this model was appropriate, but it also revealed that the squared residuals increased as a linear function of stump diameter. Because of this, the reciprocal of stump diameter was taken as the weight in the weighted least squares regression program used for the rest of the study. Analyses of covariance determined that data sets could be combined across National Forests for each species and that the data set for corkbark fir could be combined With that for Engelmann spruce. As a result, the data for all forests, except the Lincoln (because of the different stump height), were combined. Book Individual tree Diameter Growth Model for Northeastern United States

Download or read book Individual tree Diameter Growth Model for Northeastern United States written by Richard M. Teck and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: S2Describes a species-specific, distance-independent individual-tree diameter growth model for the Northeastern United States. Diameter growth is predicted in two steps using a two parameter, sigmoidal growth function modified by a one parameter exponential decay function with species-specific coefficients. Coefficients are presented for 28 species groups. The model accounts for variability in annual diameter growth due to species, tree size, site quality, and the tree's competitive position within the stand. Model performance is evaluated using the mean predicted error and the root mean square error. Results are presented for the calibration data and an independent validation data set. The model has been, incorporated into NE-TWIGS, a computerized forest growth model for the Northeastern United States.S3.

Book Forest Measurements

Download or read book Forest Measurements written by Harold E. Burkhart and published by Waveland Press. This book was released on 2018-08-13 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Harold Burkhart and Bronson Bullock have updated the quintessential introduction to forest measurements, providing a new generation of forestry students at all levels with the concepts and methods they need for career success. With attention to detail and clear, precise language, the authors present timber measurement techniques applicable to any tree inventory regardless of management objectives. Assuming no more mathematical background than algebra and plane trigonometry, the authors begin with basic statistical concepts to ensure that even introductory students benefit from the book’s concise explanations. Comprehensive coverage of sampling designs, land measurements, tree measurements, forest inventory field methods, and growth projections assures utility for foresters throughout their education and beyond. The new edition includes expanded discussions of information technology and geospatial information systems commonly employed in assessing forest resources. Recognizing the needs of contemporary forest inventories and models, a new chapter on assessing forest carbon builds on the foundations of traditional forest measurements, sampling, and modeling. Abundant photographs and illustrations highlight and clarify important concepts, while many numerical examples allow readers to become comfortable with the quantitative tools employed by foresters.

Book Forest Measurements

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Continuing a tradition of excellence spanning over forty years, the Fifth Edition of Forest Measurements supplies forestry students at all levels with the concepts and methods they need for future success. The authors present timber measurement techniques applicable to any tree inventory regardless of management objectives. Assuming only some background in algebra and plane trigonometry, basic statistical concepts are included, ensuring that even introductory students benefit from the book’s concise explanations. Thorough coverage of sampling designs, land measurements, tree measurements, forest inventory field methods, and growth projections ensures utility for foresters throughout their education and beyond. Chapters on aerial photographs and GIS introduce readers to these powerful measurement tools, and the concluding chapter expands the techniques discussed to encompass other natural resources such as rangelands, wildlife, and water. Exceptionally readable and clear, the book includes many photographs and illustrations, numerous numerical examples, and a bibliography to enhance the reader’s understanding of the material.
