Book Precision Measurement of CP Violation in D0 to pi pi at CDF

Download or read book Precision Measurement of CP Violation in D0 to pi pi at CDF written by and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We report a preliminary measurement of the CP violating asymmetry in D° →??− using approximately 215,000 decays reconstructed in about 5.94/fb of CDF data. We use the strong D* ± D°?+ decay (D* tag) to identify the flavor of the charmed meson at production time and exploit CP-conserving strong c-{bar c} pair-production in p-{bar p} collisions. Higher statistic samples of Cabibbo-favored D° → K−?+ decays with and without D* tag are used to highly suppress systematic uncertainties due to detector effects. The result is the world's most precise measurement to date.

Book excerpt: We report a measurement of the CP violating asymmetry in D° →??− decays using approximately 215,000 decays reconstructed in about 5.94 fb−1 of CDF data. We use the strong D*+ → D°?+ decay ('D* tag') to identify the flavor of the charmed meson at production time and exploit CP-conserving strong c{bar c} pair-production in p{bar p} collisions. Higher statistic samples of Cabibbo-favored D° → K−?+ decays with and without D* tag are used to highly suppress systematic uncertainties due to detector effects. The result, A{sub CP}(D° →?+?−) = [0.22 ± 0.24 (stat.) ± 0.11 (syst.)]%, is the world's most precise measurement to date and it is fully consistent with no CP violation.

Download or read book Measurement of CP Violating Asymmetries in D 0 to pi pi and D 0 to K K Decays at CDF written by and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We report a search for non-Standard Model physics through the measurement of CP-violating asymmetries in the singly-Cabibbo- suppressed $D^0 \to \pi^+ \pi^-$ and $D^0 \to K^+ K^- $ decays reconstructed in about 5.9 fb-1 of CDF data. We use the strong $D^{*+} \to D^0\pi^+$ decay ("D tag") to identify the flavor of the charmed meson at production time and exploit CP-conserving strong cc pair-production in pp collisions. Large samples of Cabibbo-favored $D^0 \to K^-\pi^+$ decays with and without D tag are used to highly suppress systematic uncertainties due to detector effects. The results are the world's most precise measurements to date and have been published by Physical Review D in January 2012 [1].

Book Measurement of CP violating Asymmetries in D0 to pi pi and D0 to K K Decays at CDF

Download or read book Measurement of CP violating Asymmetries in D0 to pi pi and D0 to K K Decays at CDF written by and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 29 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We report on a measurement of CP-violating asymmetries (A{sub CP}) in the Cabibbo-suppressed D° →??− and D° → K+K− decays reconstructed in a data sample corresponding to 5.9 fb−1 of integrated luminosity collected by the upgraded Collider Detector at Fermilab. We use the strong decay D*+ → D°?+ to identify the flavor of the charmed meson at production and exploit CP-conserving strong c{bar c} pair-production in p{bar p} collisions. High-statistics samples of Cabibbo-favored D° → K−?+ decays with and without a D*{sup ±} tag are used to correct for instrumental effects and significantly reduce systematic uncertainties. We measure A{sub CP}(D° →?+?−) = (+0.22 ± 0.24(stat) ± 0.11 (syst))% and A{sub CP}(D° → K+K−) = ( -0.24 ± 0.22 (stat) {+-} 0.09 (syst))%, in agreement with CP conservation. These are the most precise determinations from a single experiment to date. Under the assumption of negligible direct CP violation in D° →?+?− and D° → K+K− decays, the results provide an upper limit to the CP-violating asymmetry in D° mixing,

Book Time Dependent CP Violation Measurements

Download or read book Time Dependent CP Violation Measurements written by Markus Röhrken and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-10-17 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis describes a high-quality, high-precision method for the data analysis of an interesting elementary particle reaction. The data was collected at the Japanese B-meson factory KEKB with the Belle detector, one of the most successful large-scale experiments worldwide. CP violation is a subtle quantum effect that makes the world look different when simultaneously left and right and matter and antimatter are exchanged. This being a prerequisite for our own world to have developed from the big bang, there are only a few experimental indications of such effects, and their detection requires very intricate techniques. The discovery of CP violation in B meson decays garnered Kobayashi and Maskawa, who had predicted these findings as early as 1973, the 2008 Nobel prize in physics. This thesis describes in great detail what are by far the best measurements of branching ratios and CP violation parameters in two special reactions with two charm mesons in the final state. It presents an in-depth but accessible overview of the theory, phenomenology, experimental setup, data collection, Monte Carlo simulations, (blind) statistical data analysis, and systematic uncertainty studies.

Book excerpt: We report a search for non–Standard Model physics through the measurement of CP–violating asymmetries in the singly–Cabibbo– suppressed $D0̂ o pi+̂ pi-̂$ and $D0̂ o K+̂ K-̂ $ decays reconstructed in about 5.9 fb-1 of CDF data. We use the strong $D{̂*+} o D0̂pi+̂$ decay (?D tag?) to identify the flavor of the charmed meson at production time and exploit CP–conserving strong cc pair–production in pp collisions. Book Measurement of CP violating Parameters in Fully Reconstructed B D pi and B Drho Decays

Download or read book Measurement of CP violating Parameters in Fully Reconstructed B D pi and B Drho Decays written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While the measurement of sin2[beta] is now a precision measurement, the constraints on the other two angles of the Unitarity Triangle, [alpha] and [gamma], are still limited by statistics and/or by theoretical uncertainties. This paper reports on the measurement of CP-violating asymmetries in B[sup 0] --> D(*)[sup [+-]][pi][sub [-+]] and B[sup 0] --> D[sup [+-]][rho][sup [-+]] decays in [Upsilon](4S) --> B[bar B] decays, asymmetries which are rleated to sin(2[beta] + [gamma]). This analysis updates the results already published by including a new decay mode (B[sup 0] --> D[sup [+-]][rho][sup [-+]]) and a larger data sample (110 instead of 88 million [Upsilon](4S) --> B[bar B] decays).

Download or read book Search for CP Violation in the Decays D0 to K K and D0 to Pi Pi written by and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We measure CP-violating asymmetries of neutral charmed mesons in the modes D° → K−K and D° →?−?+ with the highest precision to date by using D° → K−?+ decays to correct detector asymmetries. An analysis of 385.8 fb−1 of data collected with the BaBar detector yields values of a{sup KK}{sub CP} = (0.00 ± 0.34 (stat.) ± 0.13 (syst.))% and a{sup?{pi}}{sub CP} = ( -0.24 ± 0.52 (stat.) ± 0.22 (syst.))%, which agree with Standard Model predictions.

Book Search for CP Violation in D 0 to H h Decays at CDF

Download or read book Search for CP Violation in D 0 to H h Decays at CDF written by and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I report on a measurement of \CP-violating asymmetries ($A_{\Gamma}$) between effective lifetimes of $D^0$ or $\bar{D}^0$ in fully reconstructed $D^0\to K^+ K^-$ and $D^0\to \pi^+\pi^-$ decays collected in $p\bar{p}$ collisions by the Collider Detector at Fermilab experiment. The full CDF data set corresponding to $9.7$ fb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity is used. The flavor of the charm meson at production is determined by exploiting the strong-interaction decay $D^{*+} \to D^0 \pi^+$, while the contamination from mesons originated in $b$-hadron decays is evaluated and subtracted from the sample. Signal yields as functions of the observed decay-time distributions are extracted from maximum likelihood fits and used to measure the asymmetries. The results, $A_\Gamma (K^+K^- ) = \bigl( -1.9 \pm 1.5 \mathrm{(stat)} \pm 0.4 \mathrm{(syst)} \bigr)\times10^{-3}$ and $A_\Gamma (\pi^+\pi^- )= \bigl( -0.1 \pm 1.8 \mathrm{(stat)} \pm 0.3 \mathrm{(syst)} \bigr)\times10^{-3}$, and their combination, $A_\Gamma = \bigl( -1.2 \pm 1.2\bigr)\times10^{-3}$, are consistent with the SM predictions and other experimental determinations.

This book was released on 1993 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fermilab experiments E731, E773, E799, and E832 are a series of experiments to investigate the physics of CP violation, CPT violation, and rare decays of the neutral kaon system. E731 finished data taking in 1988, during past year the full data set analysis was completed and yielded ([var epsilon][prime]/[var epsilon])[sub 2[pi]]=(7.4 [plus minus] 5.2 [stat] [plus minus] 2.9 [syst]) [times] 10[sup [minus]4] . The value favors a high top ark mass value within the Standard Model. E773 tests CPT violation by determining ([Delta][phi])[sub 2[pi]] with an accuracy of about 0.5[sup 0]. Data were taken during the last Fermilab Fixed Target run period between September and November 1991. It is anticipated the data analysis will be finished within a year. E799, with the primary goal of observing direct Cp Violation via searching for the rare decay K[sub L][yields] [pi][sup 0] l [sup +]l[sup [minus]] (where l = e, [mu] [nu]) took test data between November 1991 and January 1992 (Phase 1). Some preliminary results are shown here. E799 (Phase II) and E832 (a follow up experiment of E731) are scheduled to take data after the current Fermilab collider run with a new facility and detector.
