Book Large Igneous Provinces and their Plumbing Systems

Download or read book Large Igneous Provinces and their Plumbing Systems written by R. K. Srivastava and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2022-03-15 with total page 598 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Identification of large-volume, short-duration mafic magmatic events of intraplate affinity in both continental and oceanic settings on the Earth and other planets provides invaluable clues for understanding several vital geological issues of current concern. Of particular importance is understanding the assembly and dispersal of supercontinents through Earth’s history, dramatic climate change events including mass extinctions, and processes that have produced a wide range of large igneous province (LIP)-related resources, such as Ni–Cu–PGE, Au, U, base metals and petroleum. This volume comprises 21 contributions on the latest developments and new information on LIPs and their plumbing systems and presents methodical studies on different components of LIP plumbing systems. These articles are especially helpful in understanding continental break-up events, regional domal uplift and a variety of metallogenic systems, as well as the temporal and spatial distribution of LIPs, their origin and their likely links to mantle plumes/superplumes.

Book Precambrian Geology

Download or read book Precambrian Geology written by D. U. Kresz and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Barbara, Meader, and Pifher townships lie on the eastern side of Lake Nipigon and cover an area of 240 sq km. Field work was carried out during the summer of 1986 and consisted of mapping the Precambrian bedrock and mineral deposits. A large number of rock samples were collected, of which 94 were submitted for assays, principally gold and silver, 95 for thin sectioning and 54 for whole rock analysis. This report describes the geology, mineral deposits and exploration history of the area, as well as specific mines.

Book Skarns in British Columbia

Download or read book Skarns in British Columbia written by Gerald E. Ray and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Skarns in British Columbia have historically been important sources of iron, tungsten, copper, and gold. This publication begins with an introduction on skarn terminology and the problems of skarn identification. It then reviews a genetic model of skarn formation and presents descriptive profiles of eight types of skarn deposits; describes the database of at least 735 skarn occurrences in the province, and the number and distribution of skarns in British Columbia according to their associations, class, age, and distribution; and notes the ages of British Columbia skarns and the total production of various metals extracted from British Columbia skarns. Subsequent sections provide information on assays and metal ratios of mineralized skarns, skarn mineralogy, skarn mineral chemistry, chemistry of skarn-related intrusions, and the mapping and evaluation of skarns. The appendix contains a listing of 735 skarn occurrences in British Columbia, giving deposit name, MINFILE number, latitude/longitude, elements and minerals present, and associated rocks and their ages.

Book Geology of Carbonatite alkalic Rock Complexes in Ontario

Download or read book Geology of Carbonatite alkalic Rock Complexes in Ontario written by R. P. Sage and published by Ontario Ministry of Northern Development and Mines. This book was released on 1988 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Killala Lake Alkalic rock complex is located about 56 km north of Marathon, with access to the main part of the complex by float-equipped aircraft. The complex was examined in 1975 as part of a project to study alkalic rock - carbonatite complexes. At the conclusion of mapping, the freshest samples obtainable from the complex were selected for thin sectioning and complete rock analysis. All thin sections from those samples selected for analysis were stained for potassium feldspar. This report presents both general and economic geology, with descriptions of established mines.

  • Publisher : Geological Society of London
  • Release : 2019-10-08
  • ISBN : 1786204053
  • Pages : 674 pages

Download or read book Himalayan Tectonics written by P.J. Treloar and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2019-10-08 with total page 674 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Himalaya–Karakoram–Tibet mountain belt resulted from Cenozoic collision of India and Asia and is frequently used as the type example of a continental collision orogenic belt. The last quarter of a century has seen the publication of a remarkably detailed dataset relevant to the evolution of this belt. Detailed fieldwork backed up by state-of-the-art structural analysis, geochemistry, mineral chemistry, igneous and metamorphic petrology, isotope chemistry, sedimentology and geophysics produced a wide-ranging archive of data-rich scientific papers. The rationale for this book is to provide a coherent overview of these datasets in addressing the evolution of the mountain ranges we see today. This volume comprises 21 specially invited review papers on the Himalaya, Kohistan arc, Tibet, the Karakoram and Pamir ranges. These papers span the history of Himalayan research, chronology of the collision, stratigraphy, magmatic and metamorphic processes, structural geology and tectonics, seismicity, geophysics, and the evolution of the Indian monsoon. This landmark set of papers should underpin the next 25 years of Himalayan research.
