Book The Early Childhood Educator

Download or read book The Early Childhood Educator written by Rachel Langford and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2022-10-20 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Across the globe the work of early childhood educators, who are predominantly women, is misunderstood, underpaid and undervalued. Perspectives on early childhood educators are highly contentious: are they child development experts, oppressed workers, maternal substitutes, technicians, facilitators of early learning, or something else? This volume features chapter authors from Australia, Canada, Norway, Sweden, the USA and New Zealand, examine a range of contemporary feminist theories in relation to the early childhood educator. The feminist theories covered include materialist feminism, poststructural feminism, decolonizing feminisms, posthumanist feminism, new materialist feminism, feminist ethics of care, womanist feminism, postcolonial feminism, femme theory and feminist queer theory. The editors of the volume offer an introduction and commentaries that explore solidarities and tensions between the feminisms to generate critical conversations about the work, lived experiences, and agency of early childhood educators. The volume contributes to shifting understandings of the early childhood educator in the contexts of culture, practice, policy and politics.

Book Human rights of unaccompanied children and young people in the UK

Download or read book Human rights of unaccompanied children and young people in the UK written by Great Britain: Parliament: Joint Committee on Human Rights and published by Stationery Office. This book was released on 2013-06-12 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2012 around 1,200 unaccompanied migrant children sought asylum in the UK, and around 2,150 unaccompanied migrant children were being cared for by local authorities. The Committee heard evidence of the range of issues that unaccompanied migrant children face during their time in the country. Children who had often faced traumatic journeys, many of whom are fleeing violence or who have been subject to abuse and exploitation, faced intensive interviews on arrival for which there were too rarely interpreting facilities available. There was also evidence of children being placed in inappropriate accommodation facilities without suitably trained staff to provide support, which was a point of particular anxiety where children were victims of trafficking. Concerns were also expressed about the educational services provided, with delays in enrolment due to documentation and too little development as language skills improved. These concerns built upon those expressed in a recent inquiry by Members of both Houses regarding destitution and inadequate support. The Committee concludes that, despite the rights to protection and support owed to those children by the UK under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, immigration concerns are too often given priority. The report calls for a change in emphasis to put the best interests of such children at the heart of the often complex and stressful asylum and immigration processes affecting them.

Book Missional fatherhood as praxis to Christian families who grapple with father absence

Download or read book Missional fatherhood as praxis to Christian families who grapple with father absence written by Fazel Ebrihiam Freeks and published by African Sun Media. This book was released on 2021-12-01 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All human beings are made in the image of God, and form part of God’s creation. Families per se are valuable to God, and they can be infused with God-given solutions (biblically based) to the challenges they are facing. One of these challenges are father absence and it is a devastated social ill in many communities. Even so, missional fatherhood can be a buffer against father absence, un-involvement of fathers and numerous family issues. Missional fathers are filled with a God-given mission aiming to instil a love for Christ in the hearts of their children. They are not only called but obliged to lead sacrificial lives for the sake of their families. Their hearts engage with their children on aspects in life that matters the most. Transforming their minds by the Word of God and serving God the Father is far-reaching. Missional fathers are not only disciple-makers in their homes but also in their respective communities. This present-day notion is God’s calling on every father to be part of the Gospel and God’s holistic mission and is in response to Jesus’s Great Commission to make disciples of all people including families. All who decided and turn to the way of Jesus Christ form part of the mission that God had given the Son.
