Book Limit Analysis and Soil Plasticity

Download or read book Limit Analysis and Soil Plasticity written by Wai-Fah Chen and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-07-10 with total page 653 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developments in Geotechnical Engineering, Volume 7: Limit Analysis and Soil Plasticity covers the theory and applications of limit analysis as applied to soil mechanics. Organized into 12 chapters, the book presents an introduction to the modern development of theory of soil plasticity and includes rock-like material. The first four chapters of the book describe the technique of limit analysis, beginning with the historical review of the subject and the assumptions on which it is based, and then covering various aspects of available techniques of limit analysis. The subsequent chapters deal with the applications of limit analysis to what may be termed “classical soil mechanics problems that include bearing capacity of footings, lateral earth pressure problems, and stability of slopes. In many cases, comparisons of limit analysis solution and conventional limit equilibrium and slip-like solutions are also presented. Other chapters deal with the advances in bearing-capacity problem of concrete blocks or rock and present theoretical and experimental results of various concrete bearing problems. The concluding chapter examines elastic-plastic soil and elastic-plastic-fracture models for concrete materials. This book is an ideal resource text to geotechnical engineers and soil mechanics researchers.

Book Fatigue and Durability of Structural Materials

Download or read book Fatigue and Durability of Structural Materials written by Gary R. Halford and published by ASM International. This book was released on 2006 with total page 471 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fatigue and Durability of Structural Materials explains how mechanical material behavior relates to the design of structural machine components. The major emphasis is on fatigue and failure behavior using engineering models that have been developed to predict, in advance of service, acceptable fatigue and other durability-related lifetimes. The book covers broad classes of materials used for high-performance structural applications such as aerospace components, automobiles, and power generation systems. Coverage focuses on metallic materials but also addresses unique capabilities of important nonmetals. The concepts are applied to behavior at room or ambient temperatures; a planned second volume will address behavior at higher-temperatures. The volume is a repository of the most significant contributions by the authors to the art and science of material and structural durability over the past half century. During their careers, including 40 years of direct collaboration, they have developed a host of durability models that are based on sound physical and engineering principles. Yet, the models and interpretation of behavior have a unique simplicity that is appreciated by the practicing engineer as well as the beginning student. In addition to their own pioneering work, the authors also present the work of numerous others who have provided useful results that have moved progress in these fields. This book will be of immense value to practicing mechanical and materials engineers and designers charged with producing structural components with adequate durability. The coverage is appropriate for a range of technical levels from undergraduate engineering students through material behavior researchers and model developers. It will be of interest to personnel in the automotive and off-highway vehicle manufacturing industry, the aeronautical industry, space propulsion and the power generation/conversion industry, the electric power industry, the machine tool industry, and any industry associated with the design and manufacturing of mechanical equipment subject to cyclic loads.

Book Plasticity for Engineers

Download or read book Plasticity for Engineers written by C. R. Calladine and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2000-09-01 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the plastic property of materials, and the way in which structures made of such material behave under load. It is intended for civil, mechanical, electro-mechanical, marine, and aeronautical engineers for under-graduate or post-graduate courses or research, and professionals in industry. Professor Calladine, from long experience in teaching, research and industry, here delivers a readable and authoritative account of theory and applications. He presents the classical "perfect plasticity material" as a model of irreversible mechanical behaviour, using this perfect plasticity property to analyse a range of continuum structural problems and metal-forming processes relevant to engineering practice.

Book Plasticity

Download or read book Plasticity written by E. H. Lee and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 630 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plasticity documents the proceedings of the Second Symposium on Naval Structural Mechanics held at Brown University, Rhode Island, 5-7 April 1960. It was sponsored jointly by the Office of Naval Research of the U.S. Navy and Brown University. The symposium was devoted to plasticity. The intention was to provide critical reviews of recent developments in certain areas of plasticity of particular current interest and importance, and to supplement these with short accounts of related current research work. The papers presented at the symposium covered the following areas: atomic theory of plastic flow and fracture; stress-strain relations including thermoplasticity and creep; basic theory including stability and uniqueness; boundary value problems including plates and shells; dynamic loading and plastic waves; and developments in design. Two talks were also held for the purpose of reviewing the present status of application of plasticity in design of naval vessels. The symposium was opened by Captain J. C. Myers on behalf of the Office of Naval Research and by Professor W. Prager on behalf of Brown University. Professor Prager closed the symposium by presenting a brief resume of the main accomplishments and trends in plasticity brought to light during the symposium.

Book Mechanics of Composite Materials

Download or read book Mechanics of Composite Materials written by G. P. Sendeckyj and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-06-03 with total page 520 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Composite Materials, Volume 2: Mechanics of Composite Materials deals with the prediction of the deformation behavior and strength of composite materials. The book discusses the basic concepts in micromechanics, definition of effective moduli, and the influence of the number of fibers through-the-thickness within a single composite layer on the effective properties. The text also describes the exact moduli of anisotropie laminates; the elastic behavior of composites; and the viscoelastic behavior and analysis of composite materials. The elastoplastic behavior of composites, and the application of statistical theories for the determination of thermal, electrical, and magnetic properties of heterogeneous materials are also considered. The book further tackles the finite deformations of ideal fiber-reinforced composites; wave propagation and vibrations in directionally reinforced composites; and the phenomenological anisotropie failure criterion. The text also looks into the photoelastic investigation of composites. Civil engineers, mechanical engineers, aerospace engineers, and people involved in the study of non-metallic materials will find the book invaluable.
