Book Practical Problems in Mechanical Drawing and Blue Print Reading Classic Reprint

Download or read book Practical Problems in Mechanical Drawing and Blue Print Reading Classic Reprint written by Walter W. Sturtevant and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-11-05 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Practical Problems in Mechanical Drawing and Blue-Print Reading Much criticism has been directed at the copy method of teaching Mechanical Drawing and undoubtedly some pupils have copied drawings which they did not clearly understand. The attempt, however, to make a problem of every drawing has been' responsible for much poor teaching. Many boys have gained the impression that a third view was always necessary, when as a matter of fact, two views of an object gave all of the information necessary and the drawing of the third view was.a waste of time. Similarly if dotted lines on a view give the pupil a clear idea of an object, the drawing 'of a section is poor practice. It is suggested that the test drawing, the side view or section or sketch be made on a sep arate sheet in pencil, thus saving time and avoiding the possibility of the pupils receiving the impression that it must be made to complete the drawing. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Blueprint Reading: A Practical Manual of Instruction in Blueprint Reading Through the Analysis of Typical Plates With Reference to Mechanical Drawing Conventions and Methods, the Laws of Projection, Etc Reading Blueprints. T 0 be able to read a blueprint is as essential to' a workman's success as to be able to read printed mat W ter. To read blueprints readily, he must know some of the prin ciples of making drawings. These are explained to a considerable length and with close attention to detail in Mechanical Drawing, Parts I, II, and til-and these books Should be read mostcare fully. This is somewhat equivalent. To learning the alphabet in learning to read printed text. The workman should first under stand that a blueprint is a record of instructions given him to read. Second, he should realize that the language used by the draftsman In making his drawing IS largely a language Of lines and that, unless he knows how to read lines, the instructions recorded on the blueprint are essentially in a foreign language. (read care fully and memorize page 41, Mechanical Drawing, Part II.) To read a blueprint, the-first thing'is to study the several views until one has a_good mental picture of what he is to construct. AS the blueprint is a flat surface, it is necessary for the workman to use his imagination to 'make the lines and views lift up from the paper. When a clear-cut mental picture has been formed, the dimensions Should be studied until understood. N ext all the let tered text should be read and considered. Carelessness in any one of these three'respects is not tobe Nexcused. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from How to Understand the Reading of Blue Print Drawings: The Fundamental Principles Simply Explained Realizing the need of a book of this nature, the author has endeavored to place before mechanics and others who are in need of instruction on the reading of blue print drawings, a book that contains a clear and comprehensive discussion in most simple terms. Throughout this book, I have used simple objects as illustrations upon which to base the instructions. Knowing that the weakness of many a writer of educational texts, lies in his failure to make known the things that are known to him as very simple, though in reality very hard to the reader, I have tried to mention such simple facts in my explanation as would prove to be a stumbling block if not understood by the student. I have endeavored to make the subjects interesting and appealing, so as to leave no doubt in the reader's mind of every step that would lead to a complete grasp of reading a blue print drawing. I do not wish to convey the idea that by studying this book, that the student can read a blue print drawing with the ease of a man who has given earnest study with long practical experience. I have not tried to teach the most complicated of blue print drawings, but to give the student fundamental principles, which with earnest efforts he may apply in practice. I am gratefully indebted to Mr. G. J. Lux of the Studebaker Corporation of this city for valuable suggestions and criticisms extended me for guidance while working on this manuscript. Book Mechanical Drawing Problems for High Schools Normal Schools and Vocational Schools Classic Reprint

Download or read book Mechanical Drawing Problems for High Schools Normal Schools and Vocational Schools Classic Reprint written by Edward Berg and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-21 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mechanical Drawing Problems for High Schools, Normal Schools and Vocational Schools The aim of the authors is to present to the student and the teacher a collection of progressive problems embodying the fundamental principles and examples of practical mechanical drawing, arranged to cover two years of school work. The problems are grouped into first semester, second semester, and third and fourth semester work, and arranged with the view in mind of teaching the proper amount of principles and application during a given period of time. With this plan it is felt that the student who leaves school at any time during the first two years or at the end of two years, will have received the proportional amount of mechanical drawing which will serve his needs best in the practical walks of life. Each problem is given in the form of a specification sheet and a lay-out sheet from which the student is to make the completed drawing. The specification sheet gives a statement of the problem and is frequently supplemented with text matter which bears upon and emphasizes the thing to be taught in the problem, or gives some relative information. The lay-out sheet suggests the method of procedure, and also furnishes an Object lesson in the form of carefully executed work which is always before the pupil. With this method, class instruction is reduced to a mini mum, giving the teacher more time 'for individual instruction, and the pupil the Opportunity of working things out by himself. The proper use of the specification, lay-out, and reference sheets will do much, it is believed, towards creating self-reliance and personal effort and exertion on the part of the student. The required problems are fully supplemented, making the course flexible, and suitable for many needs. The reference sheets are made use of thruout the book, and will be found a valu able feature. The extra plates may be used to extend the work over a period of more than two years. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the result of several years teaching of blueprint reading in night schools and several years teaching of drafting preceding used for three years in blueprint and mimeographed tried out. In it. The material was form. In this form it was thoroughly preparing it for book form the drawings have been carefully redrawn and the text improved upon as ex- perience suggested to be desirable. Essentially it is, however, a tried text, one that has been used to teach the reading of drawings to one class of mixed trades, one class of ship carpenters, two classes of house car- penters, and one class of machinists. It has been designed to suit as wide a range of trades as possible. Usually each new principle is illustrated by example. both a machine and an architectural In recognition of the principle that we learn by doing a number of drawings are included to give practise in reading. At the end of each chapter a number of questions are placed, a few for the purpose of re- view, but more to stimulate the study of the drawings. The study of mechanical drawing has long been recognized as a sure method of learning to read draw- ings. The Author knows it to be effective but round about, long and tedious. The Author finds shop sketching just as effective and much quicker. It is essential that students have some method of expression of the principles discussed in the text and shop sketching provides this admirably. When time permits the book can well be supplemented with the study of many blueprints supplied by the teacher or the students and much more sketching than called for herein can also be effectively required. The Author believes the book to be well suited to individual study aside from its use as a class text. When so used he urges that the shop sketching be not neglected, and that the student seek criticism of his drawings by some draftsman. Most of the drawings used herein have been de- signed especially to illustrate the text. The drawings For 8 Bench Grinder, however, are taken from the excellent little books First Year Lathe Work and How to Run a Lathe published by the South Bend Lathe Works. The Author gratefully acknowledges the courteous privilege granted him to use them in this work. THE AUTHOR. The drawings made by a skillful French draftsman are just INTRODUCTION as read- able to an American draftsman as those made by his fellow draftsmen though he may know no tongue but his native one. It is a language with rules of gram- mar just as any other language, and a draftsman is a good or poor draftsman very largely or violates these rules. as he observes It is a valuable business asset to many of us to be able to understand and speak French, Spanish or some other language than our own. It may be of no value to us to be fluent writers or speakers in the tongue. Just so, a great many men in this great industrial age are finding it necessary to understand the great uni- versal language of mechanical drawing...

Book Mechanical Drawing Problems Classic Reprint

Download or read book Mechanical Drawing Problems Classic Reprint written by Charles William Weick and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-06 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mechanical Drawing Problems This volume is a book of examples and problems for the study of mechanical drawing. It is intended to be used under the direction of a teacher, although the ambitious and painstaking student can solve many of the problems without such aid. It aims to provide a large selection of typical drawings carefully worked out as examples, each one of which is accompanied by appropriate problems suitable for elementary and advanced work in mechanical drawing. Explanations and directions are, when needed, expressed in simple and direct language, and in the fewest possible words. The principles of the construction of a drawing are shown in the examples in the graphic language of the draftsman. The book is divided into three parts. The First Part gives in brief outline such matter as the student will need to know before beginning work. It contains, also, a limited number of geometrical constructions which will be found helpful in solving some of the problems given. The Second Part - the practical work - is divided into four sections, namely: Projections, Developments and Intersections, Isometric Drawings, and Machine Details. Nearly all the example-drawings are fully dimensioned and, where necessary, described by explanatory notes. They are not to be copied but are intended to serve as a guide to the student when making his own drawings for which directions are given in the form of problems. In each section there are many more problems than any one student can work in the amount of time which is usually allotted to the subject of mechanical drawing, and a judicious selection must necessarily be made by the teacher to meet the individual students requirement. These problems are arranged in the order of their difficulty. The problems given in the beginning of each section are not too difficult for a beginner in mechanical drawing, while those toward the end of the sections will be found suitable for advanced students. Each section begins with problems that are suitable for Junior High Schools, High Schools, and Evening Schools, and advances gradually to problems that are more difficult of solution, suitable for Vocational Schools, Trade Schools, and Colleges.
