Book The American Normal Readers Vol 3 Classic Reprint

Download or read book The American Normal Readers Vol 3 Classic Reprint written by May Louise Harvey and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-01-21 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The American Normal Readers, Vol. 3 For the primary teacher the study of history, especially in its beginnings, is extremely important. If we would really understand the minds of children, let us turn back to the pages of the past where we may follow the development of the race as it has been led forward toward perfect adjustment and realization, for in the develop ment of the race we may see that of the typical child. By actual experience in teaching we learn that certain things appeal most to children and are therefore most effective at specific stages of their advancement. We are often able to determine very nearly the learning point of the child's mind, and by the study of the child in the light of history we come to understand why all this is true. We see that those elements which have entered most persistently into the development of the race are the very things in which the child finds his greatest delight. This truth has a deep significance in practical education. If we as teachers will be guided by the natural spontaneous interest of children and if we will at the same time direct this interest toward their highest good, following in advance as it were, we shall not be found blindly striving against Nature and perhaps checking many a God-given impulse, but by understanding the child's real need we may be able to supply it more fully and exactly and so to assist the natural course of his advancement. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Constructive Text-Book of Practical Mathematics, Vol. 3 IN this period of education when every study is measured by its vocational value, one must be wise indeed not to be misled into the belief that geometry is of value in the business or industry or profession in which one shall engage, only when its study is interspersed with every conceivable application. Yet the supreme value of demonstrative geometry to a boy or girl or to an older person, consists not in the various ways in which it may be applied, but in the fact that its study, when uninterrupted by extraneous material, gives the ability to think clearly and logically. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Teacher's Encyclopaedia of the Theory, Method, Practice, History and Development of Education at Home and Abroad, Vol. 3 of 7 The articles in Vol. IV. complete the general scheme of the "Teacher's Encyclopedia" as laid down in the Introduction to Vol. I., so far as relates to the specific subjects of instruction in both primary and secondary schools. They also include valuable contributions dealing with the relationship of the Child to the Law, and with the efforts being made for the welfare of the children who leave school at an early age. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Normal Teacher, 1880, Vol. 3: A Monthly School Journal, Devoted to the Dissemination of Normal Principles and to Practical School Work This is true, not only in theory, but also in fact. It has been ascertained by careful observations, made by eminent Astronomers at widely different parts of the earth, and by a long series of such observations, that the sun is in motion through space, carrying with it, as it sweeps along, all its planets, satellites, and comets. And very close and careful calculations, based upon these observations have been made, showing also in what direction and with what velocity the whole solar system is moving. Although the sun is nearly three hundred and twenty-six thousand times as heavy as the earth, it nevertheless sweeps through space, carrying with it the whole solar system, with a velocity of nearly miles every day, and nearly four thousand two hundred miles every hour. Yet so immense is the orbit in which the solar system travels, that about four millions of years are required to complete one revolution. When that revolution has been completed, then will the great clock of our solar system have struck - shall I say one, two, or twelve? We can not tell, for the whole history of man is a mere point in time. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Deep Learning

  • Publisher : MIT Press

Download or read book Deep Learning written by Ian Goodfellow and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2016-11-10 with total page 801 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An introduction to a broad range of topics in deep learning, covering mathematical and conceptual background, deep learning techniques used in industry, and research perspectives. “Written by three experts in the field, Deep Learning is the only comprehensive book on the subject.” —Elon Musk, cochair of OpenAI; cofounder and CEO of Tesla and SpaceX Deep learning is a form of machine learning that enables computers to learn from experience and understand the world in terms of a hierarchy of concepts. Because the computer gathers knowledge from experience, there is no need for a human computer operator to formally specify all the knowledge that the computer needs. The hierarchy of concepts allows the computer to learn complicated concepts by building them out of simpler ones; a graph of these hierarchies would be many layers deep. This book introduces a broad range of topics in deep learning. The text offers mathematical and conceptual background, covering relevant concepts in linear algebra, probability theory and information theory, numerical computation, and machine learning. It describes deep learning techniques used by practitioners in industry, including deep feedforward networks, regularization, optimization algorithms, convolutional networks, sequence modeling, and practical methodology; and it surveys such applications as natural language processing, speech recognition, computer vision, online recommendation systems, bioinformatics, and videogames. Finally, the book offers research perspectives, covering such theoretical topics as linear factor models, autoencoders, representation learning, structured probabilistic models, Monte Carlo methods, the partition function, approximate inference, and deep generative models. Deep Learning can be used by undergraduate or graduate students planning careers in either industry or research, and by software engineers who want to begin using deep learning in their products or platforms. A website offers supplementary material for both readers and instructors.

Book Developmentally Appropriate Practice in Early Childhood Programs Serving Children from Birth Through Age 8 Fourth Edition Fully Revised and Updated

Download or read book Developmentally Appropriate Practice in Early Childhood Programs Serving Children from Birth Through Age 8 Fourth Edition Fully Revised and Updated written by Naeyc and published by . This book was released on 2021-08 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The long-awaited new edition of NAEYC's book Developmentally Appropriate Practice in Early Childhood Programs is here, fully revised and updated! Since the first edition in 1987, it has been an essential resource for the early childhood education field. Early childhood educators have a professional responsibility to plan and implement intentional, developmentally appropriate learning experiences that promote the social and emotional development, physical development and health, cognitive development, and general learning competencies of each child served. But what is developmentally appropriate practice (DAP)? DAP is a framework designed to promote young children's optimal learning and development through a strengths-based approach to joyful, engaged learning. As educators make decisions to support each child's learning and development, they consider what they know about (1) commonality in children's development and learning, (2) each child as an individual (within the context of their family and community), and (3) everything discernible about the social and cultural contexts for each child, each educator, and the program as a whole. This latest edition of the book is fully revised to underscore the critical role social and cultural contexts play in child development and learning, including new research about implicit bias and teachers' own context and consideration of advances in neuroscience. Educators implement developmentally appropriate practice by recognizing the many assets all young children bring to the early learning program as individuals and as members of families and communities. They also develop an awareness of their own context. Building on each child's strengths, educators design and implement learning settings to help each child achieve their full potential across all domains of development and across all content areas.
