This book was released on 2017-03-17 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book The Routledge International Companion to Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties

Download or read book The Routledge International Companion to Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties written by Ted Cole and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-10-12 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Responding to disruptive or troubled pupils with emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD) remains a highly topical issue. The challenges these children present relate to wider issues of continuing political concern: the perceived declining discipline in schools; school and social exclusion; the limits to inclusion for children with special needs; increasing mental health difficulties in children; youth crime and parenting skills. It’s little wonder that the 'EBD' (often known as ‘BESD’ or ‘SEBD’) category is one of the most common forms of SEN around the world. This topical and exhaustively-researched Companion examines the difficulties of defining EBD, and the dangers of allocating this imprecise label to children. Bringing together the work of contributors from fifteen countries and across four continents, this book features the research of leading experts in the global field of EBD, who discuss and debate educators’ key concerns by: looking at the overlaps between EBD, ADHD and mental health difficulties; outlining the types of appropriate schooling for children with EBD; urging readers to look beyond pupils’ challenging behaviour in order to understand and respond to the social, biological and psychological causation; considering the key areas of assessment, whole-school and targeted approaches that help pupils with EBD in mainstream and in special settings; outlining helpful work with families, the crucial contribution of effective multi-agency working and the importance of supporting and developing teachers who work with challenging pupils. Containing contrasting views on controversial topics, this Companion’s approachable style makes it an essential reference book for academics, policy makers, practitioners, educators and students who are working towards a higher degree in education.

Book Translating Mind Matters in Twenty First Century French Women s Writing

Download or read book Translating Mind Matters in Twenty First Century French Women s Writing written by Claire Ellender and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2020-01-28 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Attitudes towards, and strategies for treating, those who suffer from abnormal mental states have evolved considerably over the centuries, and these are reflected in the various literary genres of all eras. In its introduction, this book provides a concise, yet thorough, overview of this phenomenon, citing key examples taken from the Middle Ages to the twentieth century. Each of the eight chapters which constitute Part One of this study then focuses on representations of a particular mental health issue in a work of literature produced by a twenty-first-century French woman writer. Considering the causes and symptoms of the given condition, it situates the representation of its treatment in relation to current attitudes and practices in the West. Inspired by the concept that reading literature which concentrates on mental health problems can be both informative and of comfort to those affected by such issues, Part Two provides detailed textual analyses, and discusses the English-language versions, of four works examined in Part One which already exist in translation. Suggesting how these may be of benefit to an Anglophone readership, it recommends that the four remaining texts, which may be equally helpful, are suitable for translation into English.

Book Discriminatory Bullying

    Book Details:
  • Author : Esoh Elamé
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2013-06-20
  • ISBN : 8847052351

Download or read book Discriminatory Bullying written by Esoh Elamé and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-20 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to the relation between bullying at school and ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, and disability. In examining the interactions between bullying and discrimination, the authors set out from the premise that the current practice of intercultural education does not systematically address the issue of bullying, as evidenced by the lack, within schools, of intercultural education projects. The starting point for the work is a survey conducted in ten European countries on a sample of about 9,000 students including immigrants and natives. The research provides important information on which factors deserve special attention when formulating interventions in the classroom with the aim of preventing or combating discriminatory bullying. If intercultural education is called upon to handle the fight against any form of discrimination, it cannot shirk from addressing the issue of bullying discrimination. The results represent a sound, stimulating basis for broad and realistic reflections on discriminatory bullying and intercultural education, and show that intercultural pedagogy needs to be appropriately equipped theoretically. This book will be an indispensable tool for those seeking a thorough understanding of the new challenges facing intercultural education and the means of overcoming them. On that basis, innovative education practices should be developed with the aim of spreading a culture of non-violence and intercultural dialogue.

Download or read book Harc lement scolaire le vaincre c est possible written by Jean-Pierre Bellon and published by ESF Sciences Humaines. This book was released on 2018-10-25 with total page 87 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book The Development and Treatment of Childhood Aggression

Download or read book The Development and Treatment of Childhood Aggression written by Kenneth H. Rubin and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2013-05-13 with total page 492 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Comprised of papers and commentaries from the Earlscourt Symposium on Childhood Aggression held in Toronto, Canada, this volume reflects the Earlscourt Child and Family Centre's commitment to linking clinical practice to identifiable research-based interventions which are known to be effective in the prevention and treatment of antisocial behavior in children. The education of human services professionals has typically failed to train individuals to work with specific client populations, providing a generalist approach grounded in theoretical assumptions and professional values rather than research and empirical studies. This compelling book serves to fill this gap in professional education in the area of childhood aggression. Representing substantial accomplishments in the advancement of an understanding of the plight of aggressive children and how best to ameliorate their often unpredictable and painful situations, this text allows for cautious optimism that empirical research can have practical consequences for aggressive children and their prospects for a better life. As such, it is a truly important information resource for professionals in the fields of developmental psychology and counseling.
