Download or read book The Public Relations of Everything written by Robert E. Brown and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-10-30 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The public relations of "everything" takes the radical position that public relations is a profoundly different creature than a generation of its scholars and teachers have portrayed it. Today, it is clearly no longer limited, if it ever has been, to the management of communication in and between organizations. Rather, it has become an activity engaged in by everyone, and for the most basic human reasons: as an act of self-creation, self-expression, and self-protection. The book challenges both popular dismissals and ill-informed repudiations of public relations, as well as academic and classroom misconceptions. In the age of digitization and social media, everyone with a smart phone, Twitter and Facebook accounts, and the will and skill to use them, is in the media. The PR of everything – the ubiquitousness of public relations – takes a perspective that is less concerned with ideas of communication and information than with experience and drama, a way of looking at public relations inside out, upside down and from a micro rather than a macro level. Based on a combination of the research of PR practice and critical-thinking analysis of theory, and founded in the author’s extensive corporate experience, this book will be invaluable reading for scholars and practitioners alike in Public Relations, Communications and Social Media.

Download or read book Campaigns and Elections written by Stephen K. Medvic and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-11-29 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stephen K. Medvic’s Campaigns and Elections is a comprehensive yet compact core text that addresses two distinct but related aspects of American electoral democracy: the processes that constitute campaigns and elections, and the players who are involved. In addition to balanced coverage of process and actors, it gives equal billing to both campaigns and elections and covers contests for legislative and executive positions at the national, state, and local levels, including issue-oriented campaigns of note. The book opens by providing students with the conceptual distinctions between what happens in an election and the campaigning that precedes it. Significant attention is devoted to setting up the context for these campaigns and elections by covering the rules of the game in the American electoral system as well as aspects of election administration and the funding of elections. Then the book systematically covers the actors at every level—candidates and their organizations, parties, interest groups, the media, and voters—and the macro-level aspects of campaigns such as campaign strategy and determinants of election outcomes. The book concludes with a big-picture assessment of campaign ethics and implications of the "permanent campaign." New to the Fourth Edition: • Fully updated through the 2020 elections, looking ahead to the 2022 midterms • Covers the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the 2020 election as well as the January 6, 2021, insurrection at the US Capitol • Adds new sections in Chapter 3 on election integrity and the assessment of election administration • Reviews recent Supreme Court cases on gerrymandering and faithless electors • Expands coverage of social media as a source of news, of the increasingly partisan nature of the media, and of the role of media fact-checking in campaigns and elections • Reorganizes the chapters on the various actors so that the chapter on candidates leads directly to the chapter on campaigns • Fully updates the resources listed at the end of each chapter

Download or read book U S Geological Survey Bulletin written by Colin F. Williams and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Phosphatic concretions occur within diatomite in the upper part of the Miocene Monterey Formation near Lompoc, Calif. Absence of disruption of fine laminar bedding in the associated sediment by the concretions shows that they formed after complete compaction of the enclosing sediment. The concretions exhibit a strongly concentric color, chemical, and mineralogic zonation. Many of them are composed of a nucleus in which vivianite is the dominant mineral. Amorphous ferric phosphate, mitridatite, and francolite are the dominant phosphatic phases in successive layers toward the surface of the concretions. Cd and As contents increase tenfold from the nucleus outward, reaching a maximum of 2,000 ppm, whereas Ni content, with a maximum of 720 ppm, and Co content show the opposite trend. This mineralogy and elemental composition favor accretion under conditions of continuously increasing Eh and pH, during uplift into the fresh-ground-water zone of the terrestrial environment. Shale-normalized rare-earth-element patterns, however, suggest a marine source for the elements biogenic debris consisting of opal-A, organic matter, and carbonates of the enclosing sediment.

Download or read book Democratic Reform in New Brunswick written by William Paul Cross and published by Canadian Scholars’ Press. This book was released on 2007 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Democratic Reform in New Brunswick is a comprehensive collection of research papers written initially for the New Brunswick Commission on Electoral Democracy. The essays provide detailed consideration of the many issues relating to democratic and electoral reform currently on the public policy agenda in Canada. Topics covered include: electoral system change, gender and representational issues, questions relating to party democracy, the role of legislators, concerns around drawing electoral boundaries, fixed election dates, direct democracy, and political disengagement among young voters. All of the essays examine the implications of various reform proposals in these areas and most draw upon the experiences of other jurisdictions in addressing how they might play out in the Canadian context. Many chapters also draw specifically upon the New Brunswick experience in considering how democratic reform might impact upon the province's politics. New Brunswick is Canada's only bilingual province with two vibrant linguistic communities and is in many ways a microcosm of the Canadian state. These readings provide insight into how issues related to democratic and electoral reform may play out on the national stage.
