Book Poultry and Eggs for Market and Export Classic Reprint

Download or read book Poultry and Eggs for Market and Export Classic Reprint written by D. D. Hyde and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-30 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Poultry and Eggs for Market and Export This pamphlet is intended as a handy guide for farmers and others in practical methods of poultry-keeping. It is only in recent years that much attention has been given in New Zealand to poultry-rearing on a large scale, and it is not always recognised that a good deal of know ledge, as well as industry, is required to insure success. It is the desire of the writer to supply this knowledge and prevent beginners from falling into the mistakes which are often made and from spending money unnecessarily. Since the work of instruction was undertaken by the Government there has been a great improvement in the class of poultry kept by farmers, in the methods practised, and in the production of table-poultry and eggs. There is room for much further improvement, and in this direction the officers of the Poultry Division of the Depart ment of Agriculture are always willing to assist with information and advice. The results will depend, as in all business undertakings, upon the skill, industry, and business capacity of those engaged in it. With good management poultry-keeping will give steady cash returns at an early period after embarking in the enterprise, and no other class of stock will give so much profit on the capital invested as poultry will. Poultry-keeping should go hand-in-hand with dairying, also with fruit growing and bee-culture. In addition to their direct profit, poultry are valuable on the farm in enriching the soil or restoring impoverished soil to a fertile condition; in the orchard they search for and devour insects of all kinds, and not a grub will escape them. Poultry-keeping is full of details: attend to these and success will follow. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Poultry and Egg Outlook and Situation Vol 309

Download or read book Poultry and Egg Outlook and Situation Vol 309 written by United States Department Of Agriculture and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-09 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Poultry and Egg Outlook and Situation, Vol. 309: February 1981 Prospects for reduced supplies of pork coupled with continued strong export demand for poultry and eggs are expected to keep first half 1981 prices of broilers, eggs and turkeys well above depressed levels of last year. However, rising production costs will about offset these price increases. Turkey and broiler production is likely to exceed last year's levels, while egg production may be about the same. Egg production in 1981 will probably continue about the same as last year. Following negative returns most of last year, the number of young pullets to entering the laying flock continues to trail 1980 levels, and the aver age age of the laying flock is older. Producers will prob ably keep old hens in the flock, to maintain output. Egg production in the first quarter may be down 1 percent from last year, because of one less production day in February, but second quarter production may equal april-june 1980. February egg prices in New York averaged about 71 cents per dozen, 10 cents below December, but 11 cents above February a year ago. Prices may average 72-74 cents for the entire quarter. Prices usually weaken in the spring. However, reduced supplies of meat may limit the decline this year. Egg prices during april-june may hold near first quarter levels.
