Book Implementing Effective Travel Demand Management Measures

Download or read book Implementing Effective Travel Demand Management Measures written by and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Travel Demand Management (TDM) describes a wide range of actions that are geared toward improving the efficiency of travel demand. There is much controversy and speculation as to the strength, role, and validity of TDM solutions. This uncertainty has probably led to misunderstandings of the role and potential of TDM, and therefore, a lower yield from TDM approaches than appears to be possible. This report is the main product of a study that was sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration to try to set the facts straight and provide the most comprehensive, accurate, and useable guidance on TDM. The report provides a set of materials, statistics, guides and tools that should be of significant value in not only increasing the basic understanding of what TDM is, but on how to design and evaluate programs which will deliver the optimal that these strategies can offer.

Book Megacity Mobility

Download or read book Megacity Mobility written by Zongzhi Li and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-12-14 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: World population growth and economic prosperity have given rise to ever-increasing demands on cities, transportation planning, and goods movement. This growth, coupled with a slower pace of transportation capacity expansion and deteriorated facility restoration, has led to rapid changes in the transportation planning and policy environment. These stresses are particularly acute for megacities where degradation of mobility and facility performance have reached alarming rates. Addressing these transportation challenges requires innovative solutions. Megacity Mobility grapples with these challenges by addressing transportation policy, planning, and facilities in a multimodal context. It discusses innovative short- and long-term solutions for meeting current and future mobility needs for the world’s most dynamic cities by addressing the influence of urban land use on mobility, 3D spiderweb transportation planning, travel demand management, multimodal transportation with flexible capacity, efficient capacity utilization driven by new technologies, innovative transportation funding and financing, and performance-based budget allocation using asset management principles. It discusses emerging issues, highlights potential challenges affecting proposed solutions, and provides policymakers, planners, and transportation professionals a road map to achieving sustainable mobility in the 21st century. Zongzhi Li is a professor and the director of the Sustainable Transportation and Infrastructure Research (STAIR) Center at Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT). Adrian T. Moore is vice president of policy at Reason Foundation in Washington, D.C., with focuses on privatization, transportation and urban growth, and more. Samuel R. Staley is the director of the DeVoe L. Moore Center in the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy at Florida State University.

Book Telecommunications transportation energy Interaction

Download or read book Telecommunications transportation energy Interaction written by Mark Sullivan and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The substitution of transportation by telecommunications has long been advocated as an approach that might eventually alleviate the demand placed on transportation facilities and thereby reduce fuel consumption and air pollutant emissions. With increasing penetration of telecommunications in individual homes and businesses, coupled with the widespread availability of computing equipment, facsimile capabilities and the like, there is renewed interest in exploring and encouraging telecommuting arrangements. These include work-at-home schemes and workplace decentralization with satellite work centers, as well as many other nontraditional approaches to structuring workplace activities and worker responsibilities. The aim of this project is to address the travel behavior implications of telecommuting, and determine the potential of telecommuting to improve urban mobility and reduce fuel consumption. The following objectives will be addressed: 1) prepare a synthesis of existing experience with telecommuting from the standpoint of travel behavior and fuel consumption; 2) characterize telecommunications-tripmaking-energy interactions at the individual and household levels, focusing on travel behavior within a dynamic activity-based framework; 3) develop a predictive approach to assess the energy consumption consequences of telecommmuting; and 4) develop recommendations for possible implementation strategies and for future travel and energy demand forecasting.
