Book Potential Functions for Triaxial Ellipsoids

Download or read book Potential Functions for Triaxial Ellipsoids written by Allen Vincent Hershey and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A general analysis of ellipsoidal coordinate systems is used as a foundation for the solution of a class of problems which involve an ellipsoidal boundary in an infinite medium. Formulae are given for the calculation of potentials and gradients in the vicinity of the ellipsoidal boundary. The formulae are applied to stress-velocity fields in hydrodynamics and to stress-strain fields in elasticity. Utilization of the formulae is faciliated by a system of programming in FORTRAN IV. Book Analytical Methods in Marine Hydrodynamics

Download or read book Analytical Methods in Marine Hydrodynamics written by Ioannis K. Chatjigeorgiou and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2018-05-31 with total page 530 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The value of analytical solutions relies on the rigorous formulation, and a strong mathematical background. This comprehensive volume unifies the most important geometries, which allow for the development of analytical solutions for hydrodynamic boundary value problems. It offers detailed explanations of the Laplance domain and numerical results associated with such problems, providing deep insight into the theory of hydrodynamics. Extended numerical calculations are provided and discussed, allowing the reader to use them as benchmarks for their own computations and making this an invaluable resource for specialists in in various disciplines, including hydrodynamics, acoustics, optics, electrostatics, and brain imaging.

Book Dynamics of the Milky Way

Download or read book Dynamics of the Milky Way written by Jason Sanders and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-06-15 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work presents a study of methods useful for modeling and understanding dynamical systems in the Galaxy. A natural coordinate system for the study of dynamical systems is the angle-action coordinate system. New methods for the approximation of the action-angle variables in general potentials are presented and discussed. These new tools are applied to the construction of dynamical models for two of the Galaxy’s components: tidal streams and the Galactic disc. Tidal streams are remnants of tidally stripped satellites in the Milky Way that experience the effects of the large scale structure of the Galactic gravitational potential, while the Galactic disc provides insights into the nature of the Galaxy near the Sun. Appropriate action-based models are presented and discussed for these components, and extended to include further information such as the metallicity of stars.

Book Dynamics of Natural and Artificial Celestial Bodies

Download or read book Dynamics of Natural and Artificial Celestial Bodies written by Halina Pretka-Ziomek and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 453 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains papers presented at the US/European Celestial Mecha nics Workshop organized by the Astronomical Observatory of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, Poland and held in Poznan, from 3 to 7 July 2000. The purpose of the workshop was to identify future research in celestial mech anics and encourage collaboration among scientists from eastem and westem coun tries. There was a full program of invited and contributed presentations on selected subjects and each day ended with a discussion period on a general subject in celestial mechanics. The discussion topics and the leaders were: Resonances and Chaos-A. Morbidelli; Artificial Satellite Orbits-K. T. Alfriend; Near Earth Ob jects - K. Muinonen; Small Solar System Bodies - I. Williams; and Summary - P. K. Seidelmann. The goal of the discussions was to identify what we did not know and how we might further our knowledge. The size of the meeting and the language differences somewhat limited the real discussion, but, due to the excellence of the different discussion leaders, each of these sessions was very interesting and productive. Celestial Mechanics and Astrometry are both small fields within the general subject of Astronomy. There is also an overlap and relationship between these fields and Astrodynamics. The amount of interaction depends on the interest and efforts of individual scientists.

Book Guidance and Control

Download or read book Guidance and Control written by Robert Roberson and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 687 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Guidance and Control focuses on space guidance models and behavior control techniques needed in space missions. Divided into eight parts with 30 chapters, the book contains the literature of authors who have conducted extensive research on factors affecting space missions. The concerns include ascent from Earth to an orbit requiring navigation as well as descent to Earth or the moon; the system aspects of inertial navigation; and developments in modern control theory and attitude control. The text looks at experiments on the launch of space missions and the different mathematical techniques used to measure the movement of a variable-mass vehicle. The selection also notes the processes and techniques involved in keeping satellites in compatible orbits; the influence of calculus of perturbations as applied to lunar mission analysis; and tracking of space vehicles through satellites and radar. The book also presents guidance systems for soft lunar landing and the longitudinal control of a lifting vehicle entering a planetary atmosphere. Other concerns include the application of sideband folding techniques to navigation satellite system; Damping an inertial navigation system; and application of multiple inertial system in navigation. The text ends by highlighting the use of gyroscopes in space navigation and infrared navigation sensors in space vehicles and how solar radiation affects pressure on satellite attitude control. The book is valuable for readers interested in studying the factors involved in space missions.

Book Foundations of Celestial Mechanics

Download or read book Foundations of Celestial Mechanics written by Elena Bannikova and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-12-02 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an introduction to classical celestial mechanics. It is based on lectures delivered by the authors over many years at both Padua University (MC) and V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University (EB). The book aims to provide a mathematical description of the gravitational interaction of celestial bodies. The approach to the problem is purely formal. It allows the authors to write equations of motion and solve them to the greatest degree possible, either exactly or by approximate techniques, when there is no other way. The results obtained provide predictions that can be compared with the observations. Five chapters are supplemented by appendices that review certain mathematical tools, deepen some questions (so as not to interrupt the logic of the mainframe with heavy technicalities), give some examples, and provide an overview of special functions useful here, as well as in many other fields of physics. The authors also present the original investigation of torus potential. This book is aimed at senior undergraduate students of physics or astrophysics, as well as graduate students undertaking a master’s degree or Ph.D.

Book Gravitation in Astrophysics

  • Author : B. Carter
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2012-12-06
  • ISBN : 1461318971
  • Pages : 403 pages

Download or read book Gravitation in Astrophysics written by B. Carter and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the discovery of pulsars, quasars, and galactic X-ray sources in the late 60's and early 70's, and the coincident expansion in the search for gravitational waves, rela tivistic gravity assumed an important place in the astrophysics of localized objects. Only by pushing Einstein's solar-system-tested general theory of relativity to the study of the extremes of gravitational collapse and its outcomes did it seem that one could explain these frontier astronomical phenomena. This conclusion continues to be true today. Relativistic gravity had always played the central role in cosmology. The discov ery of the cosmic background radiation in 1965, the increasing understanding of matter physics at high energies in the decades following, and the growing wealth of observations on the large scale structure meant that it was possible to make increasingly detailed mod els of the universe, both today and far in the past. This development, not accidentally, was contemporary to that for localized objects described above.
