Book Leibniz on the Parallel Postulate and the Foundations of Geometry

Download or read book Leibniz on the Parallel Postulate and the Foundations of Geometry written by Vincenzo De Risi and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2016-01-28 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a general introduction to the geometrical studies of Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz (1646-1716) and his mathematical epistemology. In particular, it focuses on his theory of parallel lines and his attempts to prove the famous Parallel Postulate. Furthermore it explains the role that Leibniz’s work played in the development of non-Euclidean geometry. The first part is an overview of his epistemology of geometry and a few of his geometrical findings, which puts them in the context of the seventeenth-century studies on the foundations of geometry. It also provides a detailed mathematical and philosophical commentary on his writings on the theory of parallels, and discusses how they were received in the eighteenth century as well as their relevance for the non-Euclidean revolution in mathematics. The second part offers a collection of Leibniz’s essays on the theory of parallels and an English translation of them. While a few of these papers have already been published (in Latin) in the standard Leibniz editions, most of them are transcribed from Leibniz’s manuscripts written in Hannover, and published here for the first time. The book provides new material on the history of non-Euclidean geometry, stressing the previously neglected role of Leibniz in these developments. This volume will be of interest to historians in mathematics, philosophy or logic, as well as mathematicians interested in non-Euclidean geometry.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The great discovery that no one wanted to make It's the dawn of the Industrial Revolution, and Euclidean geometry has been profoundly influential for centuries. One mystery remains, however: Euclid's fifth postulate has eluded for two thousand years all attempts to prove it. What happens when three nineteenth-century mathematicians realize that there is no way to prove the fifth postulate and that it ought to be discarded—along with everything they'd come to know about geometry? Jason Socrates Bardi shares the dramatic story of the moment when the tangible and easily understood world we live in gave way to the strange, mind-blowing world of relativity, curved space-time, and more. "Jason Socrates Bardi tells the story of the discovery of non-Euclidian geometry—one of the greatest intellectual advances of all time—with tremendous clarity and verve. I loved this book." —John Horgan, author, The End of Science and Rational Mysticism "An accessible and engrossing blend of micro-biography, history and mathematics, woven together to reveal a blockbuster discovery." —David Wolman, author of Righting the Mother Tongue and A Left-Hand Turn around the World

Book The Universal Postulate

Download or read book The Universal Postulate written by Herbert Spencer and published by Good Press. This book was released on 2020-12-08 with total page 35 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Universal Postulate by Herbert Spencer is about the principles of philosophy and thought. Excerpt: "HAVE we not cause to think that there exists some unestablished principle of reasoning—some principle which, though instinctively acted upon, is not entered amongst our logical canons? That man should have constructed so many systems of thought which we hold to be irrational, yet cannot satisfactorily refute, is strong ground for suspecting this."

Book Postulating Christ

  • Author : Robert R. Mullen
  • Publisher : CreateSpace
  • Release : 2014-04-10

  • Pages : 400 pages

Download or read book Postulating Christ written by Robert R. Mullen and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-04-10 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Postulating Christ was written primarily as a response to unfounded and unproven Evolutionary teachings as a source to show that there is an alternative to Evolution that requires science to prove what they are claiming instead of just believing and teaching that it is true (All religions only require belief). This book was also written to help people to recognize Satan's attacks that have been launched on the human race throughout history. This book will take you through what the Evolution Religion has done to humanity including proof that Evolution is not Science but rather a religious dogma for those who believe they are intellectually superior academics that have risen above the need for an Almighty God. This book lays out how Satan sets traps for the destruction of humanity and how we can recognize his presence. Evolution and other World Religions, specifically Islam, are only part of Satan's arsenal against men. Postulating Christ compares verses within the Christian Bible with verses in the Koran to give the reader an eye opening realization that not all of the Gods of the different World Religions are the same God. This book also includes direct comparisons with Evolutionary teachings, Bible teachings, Islamic teachings and lastly, Anton Lavey's Satanic Bible teachings to show direct parallels between these four religions proving the true author of Evolution, Islam and the Satanic Bible by their direct similaritiies. As God has always used men for his purposes on the Earth; Prophets, Apostles, Preachers, Teachers and Evangelists. Satan also uses men to do his will on the Earth through offense, lust, trickery, greed, destruction, lies, etc. Satan used Charles Darwin as much as he did Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin to murder over 70,000,000 people during WWII. This book will lay out the process that Satan used to trap Israel through Hitler and others and how the same religions that caused all of the destruction in World War II are still present on the Earth today and still causing the destruction of mankind.
