Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Post-Existential Transhumanism is Spencer Ferri's debut work of philosophy. Taking a secular approach to philosophy, Spencer examines: metaphysics, epistemology, morality, purpose, ontology, meaning, truth and sense perception in order to form a theoretical basis from which to move off into a political, economic, social examination. This analysis is done in light of the so-called technological singularity and seeks to be a way forward through the upcoming digital revolution. The work is deeply concerned with moving past the capitalist-communist, left-right dichotomies which have embroiled this world for centuries. It argues for a new theory of objective morality - in fact a science of morality - which isn't reliant on objectivist, utilitarian or religious moral claims. It establishes a new law of metaphysics, an informational epistemology and a theory of prescriptive philosophy as a cure for dissidentism. It moves into a new theory of holographic, granular politics through technologically assisted anarchism and uses transhumanism as a means to move past the isolation and terror of existentialism towards courage in the face of ignorance and death. In that it examines such a wide range of categories rather than specializing in one category, it is holistic. Despite this claim the work itself is written in a natural language using logic, reason and evidence as its tools of choice. This author tries to use a minimal amount of philosophical jargon. When he does use jargon they are terms which can't be escaped due to the history of philosophy or the nature of the work. Where he creates its own terms he tries to be as simple as possible. The term of the title may be the most complex term in the whole text. "If you feel as I do: that the world needs to change, but none of the ideas currently in play are satisfactory; and that there is something great missing from our understanding of how to move forward safely into a singularity; then this book is for you. I authored this in the pursuit of the right, the truth and the good. It is honest self-expression. I purposefully avoided exploitative writing styles. I did not want to manipulate you. I express myself through this, to achieve my aim - a fresh work of holistic philosophy for the digital era."

Book Poetic Parloir Post and Transhumanism

Download or read book Poetic Parloir Post and Transhumanism written by - Le Berthélaine and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2020-10-19 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The subject of post- and transhumanism is a pending area of interest that demands reflection, as the coming biotech era inevitably will change human life. The essay trilogy offers a vivid and comprehensible insight into the discourse through the different cultural angles of literature, art, film, philosophy, religion and science, enlightening newcomers as well as those already familiar with the topic. Poetic Parloir is dedicated to - and thus suitable for - the reader who wants to be well versed in the pivotal questions of contemporary life. The taken view is philosophical; the context is literature, art, film, philosophy, religion and science; and the intention is the impartial presentation that captures the complexity of post- and transhumanism. At a first glance, post- and transhumanism has a futuristic aura, hence, if one were to speak of such an era it would be a future one or merely a fictive sci-fi scenario. However, this is not the case and critics argue that we already live in a post- and transhumanistic age. A conviction Poetic Parloir endorses, or at least the view that the biotech revolution will prevail, and certainly the view that it will have a great impact on human existence and mankind, changing our understanding of what it means to be a human and to live a human life. The situation calls for moral attention, as the new biotechniques evolve at a far higher pace than ethics can keep up with. New times are descending, some say the promised land, the Millennial Kingdom from the Book of Revelation. I say, it is a rabbit hole and we are invited whether we like or not, with Alice, either into the wonderland of utopia or the gloomy wasteland of dystopia. Dear reader, I hereby give you Poetic Parloir [part II] on the topic of post- and transhumanism. Yours to read, yours to roam - yours to revel in.

Download or read book Poetic Parloir Post and Transhumanism written by - Le Berthélaine and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2019-08-01 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Preface - Essay trilogy (part I) on post- and transhumanism, each part focusing separate issues. Post- and transhumanism are to most people new areas of interest and therefore, when they encounter these discourses, they have only a slight understanding of the problematics in question and the serious conse-quences the new bio-tech era inevitably will entail. The intention of the present trilogy on post- and transhumanism is thus: to give an introductory account of the matters and questions in play in a comprehensible way, so that the trilogy will be informative and enlightening, both to newcomers and those already familiar with the topic. At a first glance, post- and transhumanism undeniably have a futuristic aura; hence, if one were to speak of such an era, it would be one belonging to the future or merely a sci-fi scenario. Nonetheless, this is not the case, and several critics in the field argue that we, in fact, already live in a post- and transhumanistic age. A conviction Poetic Parloir endorses or, at least, the view that the biotech revolution is unstoppable, urgent and pending. And certainly, the view that it will have a great impact on humankind and human existence, changing our understanding of what it means to be a human and to live a human life; a decisive influence that demands our moral attention, as the new bio-techniques evolve at a far higher pace than moral and ethics can keep up with. Poetic Parloir is unique in how it introduces the pending era, as it often bases itself on popular as well as acknowledged literature, art and film, together with perspectives of philosophy, religion and science. Spheres, of which the reader may have a good foreknowledge and understanding. This will facilitate the comprehension of the sometimes complex post- and transhumanistic issues. Certainly, new times are pending, some say the promised land, the Millennial Kingdom from the Book of Revelation. I say, it is a rabbit hole, and we are invited, whether we like or not, with Alice, either into the wonderland of utopia or the gloomy wasteland of dystopia. It needs our attention. Dear reader, I hereby give you Poetic Parloir [part I] on the topic of post- and transhumanism. Yours to read, yours to roam - yours to revel in.

Book Philosophical Posthumanism

Download or read book Philosophical Posthumanism written by Francesca Ferrando and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2019-06-27 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The notion of 'the human' is in need of urgent redefinition. At a time of radical bio-technological developments, and in light of the political and environmental imperatives of our age, the term 'posthuman' provides an alternative. The philosophical landscape which has developed as a response to the crisis of the human, includes several movements, such as: Posthumanism, Transhumanism, Antihumanism and Object Oriented Ontology. This book explains the similarities and differences between these currents and offers a detailed examination of a number of topics that fall under the “posthuman” umbrella, including the anthropocene, artificial intelligence and the deconstruction of the human. Francesca Ferrando affords particular focus to Philosophical Posthumanism, defined as a philosophy of mediation which addresses the meaning of humanity not in separation, but in relation to technology and ecology. The posthuman shift thus emerges in the global call for social change, responsible science and multispecies coexistence.

Book Poetic Parloir Post and Transhumanism

Download or read book Poetic Parloir Post and Transhumanism written by - le Berthélaine and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2023-02-03 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Post- and transhumanism is an urgent issue that demands reflection, as the coming biotech revolution inevi-tably will change human life. The essay trilogy offers a vivid and comprehensible insight into the topic through the different angles of literature, art, film, philosophy, religion and science, enlightening newcomers as well as those already fa-miliar with the discourse. The intention is an impartial presentation that captures the complexity of post- and transhumanism - spurring the reader to his or her own reflections on humanity version 2.0. The matter is not a sci-fi scenario, and critics argue that we already live in a Post- and Transhumanistic age. A conviction Poetic Parloir endorses, and for certain the view that it will have a major impact, chang-ing our understanding of humankind and how to live a human life. It calls for moral attention, as the new biotechniques evolve at a far higher pace than ethics can keep up with. Part III inquires into the expected furcation of mankind into different versions or subspecies, according to the extent of modification and enhancement. The focus of interest is »ethos«, that is, the attitude and ten-dency of the improved, superior humans towards those less enhanced and the original, unmodified ones. Will the biotech engendered superhumans feel themselves so lofty and apart that they will seize power and take control of the society, demand special rights and establish themselves as a nouveau aristocracy - as kings. In a future stratification of distinct lower and higher castes, reviving ancient and feudal forms of society. This might be the scenario of the pending biotech era. A utopia or a dystopia? Dear reader, I hereby give you Poetic Parloir part III on post- and transhumanism. Yours to read, roam and revel in.

Book Identity Institutions and Governance in an AI World

Download or read book Identity Institutions and Governance in an AI World written by Peter Bloom and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-01-10 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 21st century is on the verge of a possible total economic and political revolution. Technological advances in robotics, computing and digital communications have the potential to completely transform how people live and work. Even more radically, humans will soon be interacting with artificial intelligence (A.I.) as a normal and essential part of their daily existence. What is needed now more than ever is to rethink social relations to meet the challenges of this soon-to-arrive "smart" world. This book proposes an original theory of trans-human relations for this coming future. Drawing on insights from organisational studies, critical theory, psychology and futurism - it will chart for readers the coming changes to identity, institutions and governance in a world populated by intelligent human and non-human actors alike. It will be characterised by a fresh emphasis on infusing programming with values of social justice, protecting the rights and views of all forms of "consciousness" and creating the structures and practices necessary for encouraging a culture of "mutual intelligent design". To do so means moving beyond our anthropocentric worldview of today and expanding our assumptions about the state of tomorrow's politics, institutions, laws and even everyday existence. Critically such a profound shift demands transcending humanist paradigms of a world created for and by humans and instead opening ourselves to a new reality where non-human intelligence and cyborgs are increasingly central.

Book Religion and Transhumanism

Download or read book Religion and Transhumanism written by Calvin Mercer and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2014-11-17 with total page 632 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Should technology be used to improve human faculties such as cognition and longevity? This thought-provoking dialogue between "transhumanism" and religion examines enhancement technologies that could radically alter the human species. "Transhumanism" or "human enhancement" is an intellectual and cultural movement that advocates the use of emerging technologies to change human traits. Although they may sound like science fiction, the possibilities suggested by transhumanism are very real, and the questions they raise have no easy answers. If these enhancements—especially major ones like the indefinite extension of healthy human life—become widely available, they would arguably have a more radical impact on humankind than any other development in history. This book comprises essays that explore transhumanism and the issues that surround it, addressing numerous fascinating questions posed by scholars of religion from various traditions. How will "immortality" or extreme longevity change our religious beliefs and practices? How might pharmaceuticals enhance spiritual experiences? Will "post-human" technologies be available to all persons, or will a superior "post-human race" arise to dominate the human species? The discussions are as intriguing as the future they suggest.

Book Mythologies of Transhumanism

Download or read book Mythologies of Transhumanism written by Michael Hauskeller and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-11-09 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the dependence of transhumanist arguments on the credibility of the narratives of meaning in which they are embedded. By taking the key ideas from transhumanist philosophy – the desirability of human self-design and immortality, the elimination of all suffering and the expansion of human autonomy – Michael Hauskeller explores these narratives and the understanding of human nature that informs them. Particular attention is paid to the theory of transhumanism as a form of utopia, stories of human nature, the increasing integration of the radical human enhancement project into the cultural mainstream, and the drive to upgrade from flesh to machine.

Book The Ethics of Generating Posthumans

Download or read book The Ethics of Generating Posthumans written by Calum MacKellar and published by . This book was released on 2023-08-24 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Should transhuman and posthuman persons ever be brought into existence? And if so, could they be generated in a good and loving way? This study explores how society may respond to the actual generation of new kinds of persons from ethical, philosophical, and theological perspectives. Contributors to this volume address a number of essential questions, including the ethical ramifications of generating new life, the relationships that generators may have with their creations, and how these creations may consider their generation. This collection's interdisciplinary approach traverses the philosophical writings of Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, and Heidegger, alongside theological considerations from Jewish, Christian, and Islamic traditions. It invites academics, faith leaders, policy makers, and stakeholders to think through the ethical gamut of generating posthuman and transhuman persons.

  • Author : David Roden
  • Publisher : Routledge

  • Pages : 220 pages

Download or read book Posthuman Life written by David Roden and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-10-10 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We imagine posthumans as humans made superhumanly intelligent or resilient by future advances in nanotechnology, biotechnology, information technology and cognitive science. Many argue that these enhanced people might live better lives; others fear that tinkering with our nature will undermine our sense of our own humanity. Whoever is right, it is assumed that our technological successor will be an upgraded or degraded version of us: Human 2.0. Posthuman Life argues that the enhancement debate projects a human face onto an empty screen. We do not know what will happen and, not being posthuman, cannot anticipate how posthumans will assess the world. If a posthuman future will not necessarily be informed by our kind of subjectivity or morality the limits of our current knowledge must inform any ethical or political assessment of that future. Posthuman Life develops a critical metaphysics of posthuman succession and argues that only a truly speculative posthumanism can support an ethics that meets the challenge of the transformative potential of technology.

Book The Transhumanism Handbook

Download or read book The Transhumanism Handbook written by Newton Lee and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-07-03 with total page 837 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern humanity with some 5,000 years of recorded history has been experiencing growing pains, with no end in sight. It is high time for humanity to grow up and to transcend itself by embracing transhumanism. Transhumanism offers the most inclusive ideology for all ethnicities and races, the religious and the atheists, conservatives and liberals, the young and the old regardless of socioeconomic status, gender identity, or any other individual qualities. This book expounds on contemporary views and practical advice from more than 70 transhumanists. Astronaut Neil Armstrong said on the Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969, “One small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.” Transhumanism is the next logical step in the evolution of humankind, and it is the existential solution to the long-term survival of the human race.

Book Transhumanism Engineering the Human Condition

Download or read book Transhumanism Engineering the Human Condition written by Roberto Manzocco and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-03-11 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is designed to offer a comprehensive high-level introduction to transhumanism, an international political and cultural movement that aims to produce a “paradigm shift” in our ethical and political understanding of human evolution. Transhumanist thinkers want the human species to take the course of evolution into its own hands, using advanced technologies currently under development – such as robotics, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, cognitive neurosciences, and nanotechnology – to overcome our present physical and mental limitations, improve our intelligence beyond the current maximum achievable level, acquire skills that are currently the preserve of other species, abolish involuntary aging and death, and ultimately achieve a post-human level of existence. The book covers transhumanism from a historical, philosophical, and scientific viewpoint, tracing its cultural roots, discussing the main philosophical, epistemological, and ethical issues, and reviewing the state of the art in scientific research on the topics of most interest to transhumanists. The writing style is clear and accessible for the general reader, but the book will also appeal to graduate and undergraduate students.
