Download or read book Freire s Key Terms written by Teresa García Gómez and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2024-09-05 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book brings together clear and concise definitions of 33 key terms used by the great educational thinker, Paulo Freire. From 'critical consciousness' to 'concientization' and from 'oppressed' to the 'banking model of education' Freire's concepts and ways of understanding education are as relevant today as they ever were. The critical definitions attend to the theoretical and practical implications of each term allowing readers to appreciate the philosophical and emancipatory nature of Freire's work and learn how these ideas can be applied in educational, social, and political setting to drive social change. Each term is explained in relation to Freire's wider body of work, noting the nuances and meanings that developed through his career as pedagogue. The book shows the significance of Freire's legacy, and offers an opportunity to put into practice, rethink, and remake his proposal for a radical model of education.

Book Drugs and Human Behavior

Download or read book Drugs and Human Behavior written by Denise De Micheli and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-04-30 with total page 564 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the main concepts and tools for the adoption of a biopsychosocial approach to psychotropic substances use and abuse management, prevention and treatment. It aims to provide resources for the design and implementation of health strategies and public policies to deal with psychotropic substances use in a way that fully recognizes the complex articulations between its biological, psychological and social aspects, taking these three dimensions into account to develop both health and social care policies and strategies aimed at psychotropic substance users. The book is organized in five parts. Part one presents a historical overview of psychotropic substances use throughout human history and introduces key concepts to understand the phenomenon from a biopsychosocial perspective. The next three parts approach psychotropic substances use from one of the interrelated dimensions of the biopsychosocial perspective: part two focuses on the neurobiological aspects; part three, on the psychological aspects; and part four, on the social aspects and its implications for public policy design. Finally, a fifth part is dedicated to special topics related to psychotropic substances use. Drugs and Human Behavior: Biopsychosocial Aspects of Psychotropic Substances Use is a guide to public agents, health professionals and social workers interested in adopting the biopsychosocial perspective to develop and implement both health and social care strategies and policies based on an interdisciplinary approach and aimed at dealing with psychotropic substance users in a more humanized way.

Book Geographical Reasoning and Learning

Download or read book Geographical Reasoning and Learning written by Sonia Maria Vanzella Castellar and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-09-15 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the distinctive theoretical and methodological approaches in geography education in South America and more specifically in Brazil, Chile and Colombia. It highlights cartography and maps as essential tools and provides a meaningful approach to learning in geographical education, thereby giving children and young people the opportunity to better understand their situations, contexts and social conditions. The book describes how South American countries organize their scholar curriculum and the ways in which they deal with geography vocabulary and developing fundamental concepts, methodologies, epistemological comprehension on categories, keywords and themes in geography. It also describes its use in teachers’ practices and learning progressions, the use of spatial representations as a potent mean to visualize and solve questions, and harnesses spatial thinking and geographical reasoning development. The book helps to improve teaching and learning practices in primary and secondary education and as such it provides an interesting read for researchers, students, and teachers of geography and social studies.

Book Threshold Concepts in the Moment

Download or read book Threshold Concepts in the Moment written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2024-04-22 with total page 551 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the twenty years since Ray Land and Erik Meyer published their first paper on Threshold Concepts, there has been a steady stream of papers mulling over their original suggestions that learning, far from proceeding in an orderly fashion, is instead a process of struggle – perhaps alienation and confusion – that puts students in a troublesome liminal ‘in-between’ state. As their understanding develops, liminality gives way to transformational insight whereby a whole field of study comes, often quite abruptly, into focus. There is a gain but often also a loss: in this new world, old certainties, assumptions and even aspects of our identity can be left by the wayside. Threshold Concepts in the Moment is the sixth collection in the series on the subject of Threshold Concepts, following the 8th Biennial Conference held in 2021, anchored at London’s UCL but running online across the world. Its contributors, who range from ‘old hands’ to new members of the community finding their feet, mull over the insights of the threshold concepts framework in higher education, scrutinise their own fields of study, explore the implications of liminality for pedagogy and becoming professional practitioners, and consider the broad implications for pedagogy of factoring in the troublesomeness of knowledge and learning.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
