Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pooch Cafe‚ is creator Paul Gilligan's first syndicated strip, and this book collects the strips from its successful first year of syndication. When Poncho's beloved master Chazz marries cat lover Carmen and forces them to move in with her and her feline brood, Poncho's world is shaken to the core. Carmen's attempts to bribe Poncho with cheese cannot overcome his inexplicable but undeniable disdain for all things cat, and now that his home has become a haven for them, his only recourse is to seek refuge in the cafe, where he, Boomer, and his other canine pals pore over their top-secret plans to construct a giant catapult with which to hurl all the Earth's cats into the sun. As much as he dislikes kitties, he's equally passionate about his love for Chazz. Poncho will do just about anything to keep his position as man's best friend secure, including enduring the physical torments of Chazz's passion for biking, camping, and mountain climbing, which he can only get through with the help of classic Russian literature and a nice cup of tea. Pooch Cafe‚ captures the intensity of the human-dog bond in a way that will resonate with pet lovers everywhere.
Download or read book King of the Mole People written by Paul Gilligan and published by Macmillan + ORM. This book was released on 2019-08-27 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paul Gilligan's smart and funny illustrated middle grade series stars Doug, King of the Mole People, who struggles to balance chaos both in school and in the underworld. "The Wimpy Kid's got nothing on the King of the Mole People—he's got more laughs and more mud."—Kirkus Reviews Doug Underbelly is doing his best to be normal. It's not easy: he's bad at jokes, he's lousy at sports, and he lives in a creaky old mansion surrounded by gravestones. Also Magda, the weird girl at school, won't leave him alone. And if that weren’t enough, he recently got crowned King of an underground race of Mole People. Doug didn't ask to be king—it's a job he can't really avoid, like the eel sandwiches his dad makes for him (with love). If he thought dealing with seventh grade was tricky, it's nothing compared to navigating the feud between Mole People, Slug People, Mushroom Folk and Stone Goons, not to mention preventing giant worms from rising up and destroying everything. How will Doug restore order? It's all a matter of diplomacy! Christy Ottaviano Books

Download or read book No Collar No Service written by Paul Gilligan and published by Andrews McMeel Publishing. This book was released on 2010-04-13 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sit on the couch. Speak. Engage in witty banter and share ideas with friends who really understand your predicaments. Sounds like the perfect cafe. Especially if you're a dog. Pooch Cafe is the home away from home for Poncho and his canine buddies. No Collar, No Service marks the second collection of the hip hit strip Pooch Cafe, named for the place where Poncho, Boomer, and the rest of their pals regularly gather to discuss life among the humans and to hatch their plans to catapult all the world's cats into space. But you won't find this spot on Main Street. Its actual location is a canine secret compromised just once when they tried to get a pizza delivered. Poncho is as passionate about his love for his master, Chazz, as he is about his distaste for kitties. When Poncho and Chazz move in with Carmen and her medley of cats, Poncho pals up with "Fish," a goldfish who conveniently speaks dog, to learn the lay of the land. Poncho views his master's new life as a threat to the sacred man-dog bond, despite Carmen's efforts to make peace with Poncho using love, tenderness, and cheese. Good thing there's always the gang at the cafe. No Collar, No Service is the saga of a strip that captures the intensity of the human-dog bond in a way that resonates with pet lovers everywhere.

Download or read book Handbook of the Neuroscience of Language written by Brigitte Stemmer and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2008-04-29 with total page 505 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last ten years the neuroscience of language has matured as a field. Ten years ago, neuroimaging was just being explored for neurolinguistic questions, whereas today it constitutes a routine component. At the same time there have been significant developments in linguistic and psychological theory that speak to the neuroscience of language. This book consolidates those advances into a single reference. The Handbook of the Neuroscience of Language provides a comprehensive overview of this field. Divided into five sections, section one discusses methods and techniques including clinical assessment approaches, methods of mapping the human brain, and a theoretical framework for interpreting the multiple levels of neural organization that contribute to language comprehension. Section two discusses the impact imaging techniques (PET, fMRI, ERPs, electrical stimulation of language cortex, TMS) have made to language research. Section three discusses experimental approaches to the field, including disorders at different language levels in reading as well as writing and number processing. Additionally, chapters here present computational models, discuss the role of mirror systems for language, and cover brain lateralization with respect to language. Part four focuses on language in special populations, in various disease processes, and in developmental disorders. The book ends with a listing of resources in the neuroscience of language and a glossary of items and concepts to help the novice become acquainted with the field. Editors Stemmer & Whitaker prepared this book to reflect recent developments in neurolinguistics, moving the book squarely into the cognitive neuroscience of language and capturing the developments in the field over the past 7 years. - History section focuses on topics that play a current role in neurolinguistics research, aphasia syndromes, and lesion analysis - Includes section on neuroimaging to reflect the dramatic changes in methodology over the past decade - Experimental and clinical section reflects recent developments in the field
Download or read book The Karmic Car Cycles written by Cliff Livingstone and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2009-08 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The universally themed book titled, 'The Karmic Car Cycles', is a hilarious romp of car related misadventures by the author/protagonist Cliff R. Livingstone. The book hits the ground running and is still running at the end. Having led one of the wackiest, most unusual, and so far unlikely lives on the planet, the author romps through these awesome and oftentimes unbelievable Karmic Car adventures at the rate of about ten laughs a second. The author proposes that his car misadventures occurred because he had a Karmic Car Cycle going on. He then builds the case though a series of hilarious 'vignettes' that work in their right own over and above the narrative. In writing it is hard to find an approach that stands out from the crowd. But this is what Livingstone has done with this distinctive work which lives up to its billing as a 'non-stop romp, morning, noon and night'. The writing style is uproariously funny, conversational, wry, even whimsical at times and is never less than totally entertaining. The book is anything but your standard bowl of cornflakes. Writing is about addressing other people. Mr. Livingstone has accurately identified the things about his life's experiences which could be of interest to others. This gives the 'Karmic Car Cycles' a more universal appeal than an average straight forward narrative novel might offer. The book also has a universal appeal which everyone can enjoy, in the sense that while located mainly in Canada, the misadventures could just as easily have happened to anybody, anywhere in the world whether rich, poor, male, female, sane, zany or just plain still in their boots. Likewise, the author's self-imposed criterion that all included material be entertaining and/or thought provoking for the benefit of others is a rule from which many writers could benefit.

Download or read book Common Sense Mathematics Second Edition written by Ethan D. Bolker and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2021-01-21 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ten years from now, what do you want or expect your students to remember from your course? We realized that in ten years what matters will be how students approach a problem using the tools they carry with them—common sense and common knowledge—not the particular mathematics we chose for the curriculum. Using our text, students work regularly with real data in moderately complex everyday contexts, using mathematics as a tool and common sense as a guide. The focus is on problems suggested by the news of the day and topics that matter to students, like inflation, credit card debt, and loans. We use search engines, calculators, and spreadsheet programs as tools to reduce drudgery, explore patterns, and get information. Technology is an integral part of today's world—this text helps students use it thoughtfully and wisely. This second edition contains revised chapters and additional sections, updated examples and exercises, and complete rewrites of critical material based on feedback from students and teachers who have used this text. Our focus remains the same: to help students to think carefully—and critically—about numerical information in everyday contexts.
