Book Postnational Feminisms

Download or read book Postnational Feminisms written by Hena Ahmad and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2010 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Postnational Feminisms: Postcolonial Identities and Cosmopolitanism in the Works of Kamala Markandaya, Tsitsi Dangarembga, Ama Ata Aidoo, and Anita Desai offers a significant contribution to the field of postcolonial and Third World feminist studies. It reevaluates the ways in which Third World women writers interrogate the relationship between woman and nation in the postcolonial context. Hena Ahmad brings forth the concept of "postnational feminism", which she deploys to show how these major writers challenge the role of women as signifiers of national cultures in their works. This innovative concept illuminates the ambivalence of these uniquely positioned writers as Ahmad explores the connection between postnationalism and Third World feminism." -- BOOK JACKET.

Book Status of Pollinators in North America

Download or read book Status of Pollinators in North America written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2007-04-13 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pollinators-insects, birds, bats, and other animals that carry pollen from the male to the female parts of flowers for plant reproduction-are an essential part of natural and agricultural ecosystems throughout North America. For example, most fruit, vegetable, and seed crops and some crops that provide fiber, drugs, and fuel depend on animals for pollination. This report provides evidence for the decline of some pollinator species in North America, including America's most important managed pollinator, the honey bee, as well as some butterflies, bats, and hummingbirds. For most managed and wild pollinator species, however, population trends have not been assessed because populations have not been monitored over time. In addition, for wild species with demonstrated declines, it is often difficult to determine the causes or consequences of their decline. This report outlines priorities for research and monitoring that are needed to improve information on the status of pollinators and establishes a framework for conservation and restoration of pollinator species and communities.

Book Contributions of Historically Black Colleges and Universities in the 21st Century

Download or read book Contributions of Historically Black Colleges and Universities in the 21st Century written by Bagasra, Anisah and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2022-06-24 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite the declaration that we are living in a “post-racial America,” multiple recent events in which Black lives were prematurely ended have sparked a racial reckoning within the United States. Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) are institutions with a long history of addressing racial disparities and injustices whose relevance is being recognized in light of these recent events. It is essential to give voice to those who represent the ongoing challenges, aspirations, and impact of HBCUs in the 21st century in upholding their collective mission to educate students of color who were historically excluded from institutions of higher education. Contributions of Historically Black Colleges and Universities in the 21st Century focuses on the role of HBCUs in contemporary American society as diverse and inclusive environments that continue to positively impact historically excluded students. The voices of faculty, students, and administration are included to highlight the innovations and contributions of HBCUs in the areas of scholarship, teaching, and service. Covering topics such as BlaQ Lives Matter, community activism, and self-advocacy, this premier reference source is a valuable resource for sociologists, higher education administration, graduate programs, faculty and administrators at HBCUs, students and educators of higher education, libraries, government officials, activists, non-profit organizations, researchers, and academicians.

Book Hunter of Themes

Download or read book Hunter of Themes written by Karen Link Rosenflanz and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2005 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Krzizanovskij summed himself up in one of his notebooks: "I am known for being unknown." Yet he was an authority on Shakespeare and Shaw, a noted scholar, and the author of very popular dystopian and phantasmagoria short stories. Rosenflanz examines the life and work of this Russian modernist, whose imagination used the Russian formalism and futurism then current in new and rich ways, whose skill with the pun rose even to the aural level, and whose life's goal was to resurrect the idea of word as thing in all its permutations: as words, as things, as things-words, and as words-things, even unto words as prophecy, which Rosenflanz interprets as "recollections of the future." Krzizanovskij's being known for being unknown is perhaps rooted in the fact that he was so far ahead that others could not recognize him as leading the charge.
