Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Diversity And Magnitude Of Indian Flora Open A Vast Field Of Palynological Research, Both Applied And Pure. Angiosperm Taxa Occurring In India Are Extimated To Be About 20000: Many Among Them Are Reportedly Rare And Endemic. Lack Of Sufficient Knowledge In The Palynology Of Present Day Plants Causes Great Amount Of Erroneous Identification Of Many A Fossil Or Other Dispersed Pollen.

Book Pollen Diversity of Osmanabad India

Download or read book Pollen Diversity of Osmanabad India written by Vinod Devarkar and published by Pollen Diversity - Osmanabad. This book was released on 2012 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Osmanabad is the southernmost district Maharashtra State situated between 17° 35' and 18° 40' north latitude and 75° 16' and 76° 40' east longitude. Palynology is one of the most widely used research tools in Quaternary studies (Edwards 1983). As Osmanabad district having very less forest cover, researchers have shown little interest in botanical studies in this region. Very few workers like Naik (1979, 1998) worked on floristic studies, but nobody worked on pollen morphological studies for this region. In the last century, Brown (1958), Frisch (1953) and Hooker (1897) have contributed to our knowledge of pollen and spore morphology. In the present century, rapid progress has been made in the study and several thousands of pollen and spores have been described and illustrated (Davis 1963). Study of pollen diversity has received an enormous attention since last few decades due to its allergenic properties. Identification of allergenic pollen grains is necessary from the plants those are utilized as ethnomedicinal, ethnovegetables, etc. This was the sincere attempt to note diversity of pollens in relation to taxonomy, allergenic properties and its economical importance in the region.

Book Climate Change and Island and Coastal Vulnerability

Download or read book Climate Change and Island and Coastal Vulnerability written by J. Sundaresan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-01-11 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Climate Change and Island and Coastal Vulnerability” is the outcome of a selection of peer reviewed edited papers presented at the International Workshop on Climate Change and Island Vulnerability (IWCCI) held at Kadmat Island, Lakshadweep, India in October 2010. Marine and coastal biodiversity, sea level rise vulnerability, fisheries, climate change impact on livelihood options, water and sanitation in island ecosystem and mitigation, adaptation and governance are the focal themes. The basic concept conveyed in the book is that biodiversity of islands is to be protected as a natural mechanism to mitigate climate change. Probability recurrence of mass coral bleaching and the management of coral reefs and their future protection are discussed in this book. Marine productivity and climate change for the last ten thousand years in the Arabian Sea have been examined with core records. Green technology is suggested as an important tool for mitigation and adaptation programmes in climate change. Measures taken to project biomass utilisation of islands as an energy source is delineated. Climate change may pose a potential threat on human health. Improved sanitation packages and models that are cost effective and environment-friendly for islands are uniquely presented in this book.

Book Holocene Climate Change and Environment

Download or read book Holocene Climate Change and Environment written by Navnith Kumaran and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2021-09-24 with total page 693 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Holocene Climate Change and Environment presents detailed, diverse case studies from a range of environmental and geological regions on the Indian subcontinent which occupies the central part of the monsoon domain. This book examines Holocene events at different time intervals based on a new, high-resolution, multi-proxy records (pollen, spores, NPP, diatoms, grain size characteristics, total organic carbon, carbon/nitrogen ratio, stable isotopes) and other physical tools from all regions of India. It also covers new facilities in chronological study and luminescence dating, which have added a new dimension toward understanding the Holocene glacial retreats evolution of coastal landforms, landscape dynamics and human evolution. Each chapter is presented with a unified structure for ease of access and application, including an introduction, geographic details, field work and sampling techniques, methods, results and discussion. This detailed examination of such an important region provides key insights in climate modeling and global prediction systems. Provides data and research from environmentally and geologically diverse regions across the Indian subcontinent Presents an integrated and interdisciplinary approach, including considerations of human impacts Features detailed case studies that include methods and data, allowing for applications related to research and global modeling

Book Introduction to Taxonomy of Angiosperms

Download or read book Introduction to Taxonomy of Angiosperms written by Verma and published by PHI Learning Pvt. Ltd.. This book was released on 2010-10 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Taxonomy is one of the oldest biological disciplines. This book presents an account of general principles and aims of taxonomy in a comprehensive manner. It has been written mainly to cater the needs of undergraduate students pursuing courses in Botany/Life Sciences/Plant Sciences, but it will be useful for postgraduate students of these disciplines as well. The book gives a critical account of the important systems of classification and salient features of the APG II (Angiosperm Phylogeny Group, 2003) system of plant taxonomy. It mentions the important rules of plant nomenclature, and various codes of nomenclature including the latest Vienna Code of 2006. Further, it discusses the usefulness of anatomy, embryology, palynology, chemistry, cytology and ecology under current trends in plant taxonomy. A thorough coverage of profusely illustrated 50 important dicotyledonous and monocotyledonous angiospermic families is the hallmark of this book. Each family is described covering the following points: Distribution, vegetative features, floral description, morphological nature of organs, further classification, affinities with other families, economic importance and description of common plant(s). Finally, the book covers the different aspects and theories related to the origin of angiosperms, and elucidates the methods and techniques of herbarium development and maintenance. KEY FEATURES: Presents a key to families described in the book. Provides a pro forma for the description of angiosperms. Includes a glossary of important technical terms.
