Book Die politische Theologie Alfred de Quervains

Download or read book Die politische Theologie Alfred de Quervains written by Josep Castanyé and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Political Theologies in Orthodox Christianity

Download or read book Political Theologies in Orthodox Christianity written by Kristina Stoeckl and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2017-06-15 with total page 471 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gathers a wide range of theological perspectives from Orthodox European countries, Russia and the United States in order to demonstrate how divergent the positions are within Orthodox Christianity. Orthodoxy is often considered to be out-of-sync with contemporary society, set apart in a world of its own where the church intertwines with the state, in order to claim power over the populace and ignore the individual voices of modern societies. As a collective, these essays present a different understanding of the relationship of Orthodoxy to secular politics; comprehensive, up-to-date and highly relevant to politically understanding today's world. The contributors present their views and arguments by drawing lessons from the past, and by elaborating visions for how Orthodox Christianity can find its place in the contemporary liberal democratic order, while also drawing on the experience of the Western Churches and denominations. Touching upon aspects such as anarchism, economy and political theology, these contributions examine how Orthodox Christianity reacts to liberal democracy, and explore the ways that this branch of religion can be rendered more compatible with political modernity.

Book A Theology of Liberation

Download or read book A Theology of Liberation written by Gustavo GutiŽerrez and published by Orbis Books. This book was released on 1988-01-01 with total page 495 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the credo and seminal text of the movement which was later characterized as liberation theology. The book burst upon the scene in the early seventies, and was swiftly acknowledged as a pioneering and prophetic approach to theology which famously made an option for the poor, placing the exploited, the alienated, and the economically wretched at the centre of a programme where "the oppressed and maimed and blind and lame" were prioritized at the expense of those who either maintained the status quo or who abused the structures of power for their own ends. This powerful, compassionate and radical book attracted criticism for daring to mix politics and religion in so explicit a manner, but was also welcomed by those who had the capacity to see that its agenda was nothing more nor less than to give "good news to the poor", and redeem God's people from bondage.

Book God for a Secular Society

Download or read book God for a Secular Society written by Jürgen Moltmann and published by Fortress Press. This book was released on 1999-03-05 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this masterful analysis of the religious and political dilemmas at the end of the modern age, world-renowned theologian J rgen Moltmann assays the vaulting dreams and colossal failures of our time. He asks how we came to this point, and he argues strenuously for Christian discipleship and public theology that take sides. In both critical and creative ways he advances the specific relevance of Christian messianic hope to today's thorniest political, economic, and ecological questions-including human rights, environmental rights, globalization, market capitalism, fundamentalisms, and Jewish-Christian relations-and the deeper values contested therein. In a world reeling between utopia and disaster, Moltmann here passionately and provacatively shows how Christian discipleship, through engagement and solidarity, can blaze a redemptive path.

Book Theology Liberation and Genocide

Download or read book Theology Liberation and Genocide written by Mario I. Aguilar and published by SCM Press. This book was released on 2013-01-25 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Reclaiming Liberation Theology series claims that Liberation Theology is alive and well and continues to produce new and challenging material. In "Theology, Liberation and Genocide", Mario Aguilar, one of the leading liberation theologians of the current generation, asks how it can be possible to do theology in the face of atrocities such as the genocide in Rwanda. He argues that the traditional ways of doing theology ('high theology') no longer work and that theology now has to take place at the periphery rather than in the social, cultural and political centre. In this book, Aguilar seeks further to unfold the new agenda for liberation theology as set by Ivan Petrella and others.

Book T T Clark Handbook of Public Theology

Download or read book T T Clark Handbook of Public Theology written by and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2022-06-02 with total page 601 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: T&T Clark Handbook of Public Theology introduces the various philosophical and theological positions and approaches in the emerging discourse of public theology. Distinguishing public theology from political theology, as well as from liberation theology, this book clarifies central terms like 'public sphere', 'the secular', and 'post-secularity' in order to highlight the specific characteristics of public theology. Its particular focus lies on the ways in which much of public theology has established itself as a contextual theology in politically secular societies, aiming to continue the apologetical tradition in this specific context. Depending on what is regarded as the most pressing challenge for the reasonable defence of the Christian hope in liberal democracies, public theologians have focused on (social) ethics, ecclesiology, or Soteriology, with the aim to strengthen the virtues needed for democratic citizenship. Here, attention is being paid to Protestant, Catholic and Orthodox perspectives. The volume further illustrates the characteristics of the discourse by introducing the ways in which public theologians have responded to concrete challenges arising in the spheres of politics, economics, ecology, sports, culture, and religion. To highlight the international scope of the public theological discourse, the volume concludes with a summarizing overview of public theological debates in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America and Latin America.

Download or read book Remembering and Resisting written by Johann Baptist Metz and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2022-08-18 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At a time when we have never known more about our globe or shared more information, we live--paradoxically--in a driven, disconnected world. In science, in economics, our communications industry, and even in the public sphere, the human person tends to disappear from consideration or evaporate into an abstraction. The new political theology tries to break the spell of this cultural amnesia. These essays and interviews invite readers to consider the future by asking Where are we headed and what do we stand for. Johann Baptist Metz's theology emerged as an attempt to understand shifting borders and threatening situations. It does not prescribe a political agenda or policies, but it does ask where we might stand if we are to shape a meaningful future together rather than in isolated or in ideological camps. Beginning with the spiritualty of his popular Poverty of Spirit, Metz developed a new method of theological inquiry for our anxious times. These essays represent the mature clarification of his earlier work.

Book Reinhold Niebuhr and Contemporary Politics

Download or read book Reinhold Niebuhr and Contemporary Politics written by Richard Harries and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2010-03-25 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Barack Obama praised the writings of philosopher theologian Reinhold Niebuhr in the run up to the 2008 US Presidential Elections, he joined a long line of top politicians who closely engaged with Niebuhr's ideas, including Tony Benn, Jimmy Carter, Martin Luther King Jr. and Dennis Healey. Beginning with his early ministry amongst industrial workers in early twentieth century Detroit, Niebuhr displayed a passionate commitment to social justice that infused his life's work. Rigorously championing 'Christian Realism' he sought a practically orientated intellectual engagement with the political challenges of his day. His ideas on International Relations have also helped to shape debate amongst leading academic thinkers and policy makers. In both Christian and secular contexts he continues to attract new readers today. In this timely re-evaluation both critics and disciples of Niebuhr's work reflect on his notable contribution to Christian social ethics, the Christian doctrine of humanity, and the engagement of Christian thought with contemporary politics. The authors bring a wide range of expertise from both sides of the Atlantic, indicating how a re-evaluation of Niebuhr's thought can help inform contemporary debates on Christian social ethics and other wider theological issues.

Book Politische Theologie bei Karl Barth Helmut Gollwitzer und J rgen Moltmann

Download or read book Politische Theologie bei Karl Barth Helmut Gollwitzer und J rgen Moltmann written by Sungchole Park and published by Springer-Verlag. This book was released on 2019-03-09 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Beyond Fragmentation written by Bernhard Ott and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2011-06-17 with total page 411 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beyond Fragmentation is an inquiry into the development of mission studies in evangelical theological education in Germany and German-speaking Switzerland between 1960-1995. This is carried out by a detailed examination of the paradigm shifts, which have taken place in recent years in both the theology of mission and the understanding of theological education. David Bosch's proposal of an emerging ecumenical mission paradigm is examined with reference to the schools in membership with the Konferenz Bibeltreuer Ausbildungsstatten (KBA). The KBA schools have been greatly influenced by the work of Peter Beyerhaus and the Frankfurt Declaration (1970), and, as such, defend a conservative theological position and resist the challenge of Bosch's mission paradigm shift, the key issue being that of hermeneutics. Ott further explores the emerging new paradigm of theological education in both the Western and Two Thirds World contexts. While the evangelical Bible school movement has historically embodied many of the features of this new paradigm, they nevertheless have jeopardized these by their pursuit of academic accreditation. Ott believes that theological conservatism has caused the KBA schools to resist changes in the areas of contextual and inductive learning. Finally, Ott studies the schools' pattern of change and change-resistance through combining the insights of Thomas Kuhn, Hans Kung and Alasdair MacIntyre to hermeneutical and epistemological issues.
