Book Polarized Structure Function Sigma lt for Kaon Electroproduction in the Nucleon Resonance Region

Download or read book Polarized Structure Function Sigma lt for Kaon Electroproduction in the Nucleon Resonance Region written by and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first measurements of the polarized structure function $\sigma_{LT'}$ for the reaction $p(\vec e, e'K^+)\Lambda$ in the nucleon resonance region are reported. Measurements are included from threshold up to $W$=2.05~GeV for central values of $Q^2$ of 0.65 and 1.00~GeV$^2$, and nearly the entire kaon center-of-mass angular range. $\sigma_{LT'}$ is the imaginary part of the longitudinal-transverse response and is expected to be sensitive to interferences between competing intermediate $s$-channel resonances, as well as resonant and non-resonant processes. The results for $\sigma_{LT'}$ are comparable in magnitude to previously reported results from CLAS for $\sigma_{LT}$, the real part of the same response. An intriguing sign change in $\sigma_{LT'}$ is observed in the high $Q^2$ data at $W\approx 1.9$~GeV. Comparisons to several existing model predictions are shown.

Book Measurement of the Single Spin Asymmetry and Polarized Structure Function Sigma Lt in the Exclusive P e pol E K lambda Reaction

Download or read book Measurement of the Single Spin Asymmetry and Polarized Structure Function Sigma Lt in the Exclusive P e pol E K lambda Reaction written by B. A. Raue and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The single spin beam asymmetry, A{sub LT'}, and the polarized structure function, {sigma}{sub LT'}, for the p({rvec e}, e'K{sup +}){Lambda} reaction in the resonance region have been measured and extracted using the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS) at Jefferson Lab. Data were taken at an electron beam energy of 2.57 GeV. The large acceptance of CLAS allows for full azimuthal angle coverage over a large range of kaon center-of-mass angles. Preliminary results are presented that span a range in Q{sup 2} from 0.4 to 1.4 (GeV){sup 2} and in W from threshold up to 2.1 GeV. Comparison to existing theoretical calculations are also presented. The fifth structure function is sensitive to the interferences between resonant and non-resonant amplitudes. This measurement is part of a larger CLAS program to measure cross sections and polarization observables for kaon electroproduction in the nucleon resonance region.

Book Measurement of the Polarized Structure Function Sigma sub LT for p rvec E E p Pi in the Delta 1232 Resonance Region

Download or read book Measurement of the Polarized Structure Function Sigma sub LT for p rvec E E p Pi in the Delta 1232 Resonance Region written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The polarized longitudinal-transverse structure function [sigma]{sub LT'} has been measured for the first time in the [Delta](1232) resonance region at Q2 = 0.40 and 0.65 GeV2. Data for the p{rvec e}, e'p [pi]° reaction were taken at Jefferson Lab with the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS) using longitudinally polarized electrons at an energy of 1.515 GeV. Evidence for interference between resonant and non-resonant amplitudes is discussed using a partial wave analysis. Comparison with previous beam asymmetry measurements at MAMI indicate a deviation from the predicted Q2 dependence of [sigma]{sub LT'} using recent phenomenological models.

Book The Q 2 Dependence of the Polarized Structure Functions

Download or read book The Q 2 Dependence of the Polarized Structure Functions written by Tony Forest and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive program to measure polarized structure functions in the resonance region and beyond using the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS) at Jefferson Lab has completed taking data. One of the experimental goals is to measure the first moment (Gamma_1) of the polarized structure function, g_1, as a function of Q^2 by scattering polarized electrons from polarized proton (NH_3) and deuteron (ND_3) targets. Deep inelastic scattering measurements obtain positive values for the first moment at large Q^2. The first moment is constrained by the Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn sum rule ^1 to have anegative slope at the photon point. The CLAS measurements encompass the transition from the low Q^2 region dominated by resonances and other non-perturbative effects to the high Q^2 region where quasi-free partons dominate the interaction.

Book excerpt: In recent years there has been a growth in interest in studying the heart from the perspective of the physical sciences: mechanics, fluid flow, electromechanics. This volume is the result of a workshop held in July 1989 at the Institute for Nonlinear Sciences at the University of California at San Diego that brought together scientists and clinicians with graduate students and postdoctoral fellows who shared an interest in the heart. The chapters were prepared by the invited speakers as didactic reviews of their subjects but also include the structure, mechanical properties, and function of the heart and the myocardium, electrical activity of the heart and myocardium, and mathematical models of heart function.

Book excerpt: From 23 July to 10 August 1977 a group of 125 physicists from 72 laboratories of 20 countries met in Erice to attend the 15th Course of the International School of Subnuclear Physics. The countries represented at the School were: Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Federal Republic of Germany, Finland, France, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States of America and Venezuela. The School was sponsored by the Italian Ministry of Public Education (MPI), the Italian Ministry of Scientific and Technologi cal Research (MRST) , the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), the Regional Sicilian Government (ERS) and the Heizmann Institute of Science. The School was very exciting due to the impressive number of frontier problems which were discussed. Being the 15th year of the School, it was decided to review all outstanding "Whys". At various stages of my work I have enjoyed the collaboration of many friends whose contributions have been extremely important for the School and are highly appreciated. I would like to thank Dr.A. Gabriele, Ms.S. McGarry, Mr. and Mrs. S. Newman, Ms.P. Savalli and Ms.M. Zaini for the general scientific and administrative work. Finally, I would like to thank most warmly all those ~n Erice, Bologna and Geneva who helped me on so many occasions and to whom I feel very much indebted.
