Book The Poetic Enigma of Alfred de Vigny

Download or read book The Poetic Enigma of Alfred de Vigny written by Denise Bonhomme and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2003 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to the veiled message transmitted in the works of famous authors over a period of centuries. Esoteric literature is the massive body of Western and other writings containing a philosophical "contraband"-ever the same under a deceptive variety of surfaces or veils. In the words of Marcel Proust, "the great writers have never done but one work." Alfred de Vigny- a nineteenth century poet, novelist and playwright- belongs to the literary brotherhood involved in the transmission of the concealed message. Rabelais, Voltiare, Anatole France, Ibsen and Proust are only a few of his fellow-smugglers. English and American literatures have their share of such writers. So does the literary heritage of other European nations and of Latin America. This book contains a glossary of major key-words of the verbal "algebra" used by esoteric writers. Sensitive readers are encouraged to read the biography and the glossary first and the poetry of Vigny next. This will enable some of them to discover by and for themselves the full beauty and depth of the texts. Extraordinary findings await the esoteric readers of the literary production of Vigny. There are hints of the greatness of Atlantis. There is a vast panorama of Time and Space. There are suggestions of a startling view of the inner structure of planet Earth, a view that is also reflected in the various utopias of classical authors. Last but not least, there is the generally unsuspected, radiant reality of the works and the life of Vigny. Please visit: www.degn.org/Bonhomme

Book The Poems of Exile

Download or read book The Poems of Exile written by Ovid and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2005-01-18 with total page 537 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the year A.D. 8, Emperor Augustus sentenced the elegant, brilliant, and sophisticated Roman poet Ovid to exile—permanently, as it turned out—at Tomis, modern Constantza, on the Romanian coast of the Black Sea. The real reason for the emperor's action has never come to light, and all of Ovid's subsequent efforts to secure either a reprieve or, at the very least, a transfer to a less dangerous place of exile failed. Two millennia later, the agonized, witty, vivid, nostalgic, and often slyly malicious poems he wrote at Tomis remain as fresh as the day they were written, a testament for exiles everywhere, in all ages. The two books of the Poems of Exile, the Lamentations (Tristia) and the Black Sea Letters (Epistulae ex Ponto), chronicle Ovid's impressions of Tomis—its appalling winters, bleak terrain, and sporadic raids by barbarous nomads—as well as his aching memories and ongoing appeals to his friends and his patient wife to intercede on his behalf. While pretending to have lost his old literary skills and even to be forgetting his Latin, in the Poems of Exile Ovid in fact displays all his virtuoso poetic talent, now concentrated on one objective: ending the exile. But his rhetorical message falls on obdurately deaf ears, and his appeals slowly lose hope. A superb literary artist to the end, Ovid offers an authentic, unforgettable panorama of the death-in-life he endured at Tomis.

Download or read book Toward Another Shore written by Aileen Kelly and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 1998-01-01 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this thought-provoking book, an internationally acclaimed scholar writes about the passion for ideology among nineteenth- and twentieth-century Russian intellectuals and about the development of sophisticated critiques of ideology by a continuing minority of Russian thinkers inspired by libertarian humanism. Aileen Kelly sets the conflict between utopian and anti-utopian traditions in Russian thought within the context of the shift in European thought away from faith in universal systems and "grand narratives" of progress toward an acceptance of the role of chance and contingency in nature and history. In the current age, as we face the dilemma of how to prevent the erosion of faith in absolutes and final solutions from ending in moral nihilism, we have much to learn from the struggles, failures, and insights of Russian thinkers, Kelly says. Her essays--some of them tours de force that have appeared before as well as substantial new studies of Turgenev, Herzen, and the Signposts debate--illuminate the insights of Russian intellectuals into the social and political consequences of ideas of such seminal Western thinkers as Schopenhauer, Nietzsche, and Darwin.
