Book excerpt: The Awakening Artist: Madness and Spiritual Awakening in Art is an art theory book that explores the collision of human madness and spiritual awakening in art. It examines a condition of insanity that can be seen in most art movements throughout art history and contrasts that insanity with revelations of beauty, wonder and truth that can also be found in many works of art. The Awakening Artist references concepts of creativity put forward by Joseph Campbell, Carl Sagan, Albert Einstein, Carl Jung and others. Furthermore, The Awakening Artist discusses many of the world s most important artists who explored the theme of awakening in art including Michaelangelo, Paul Cezanne, Claude Monet, Marcel Duchamp, Morris Graves and many others. Additionally, using concepts of Eastern philosophy, the book presents the case that human creativity originates from the same creative source that animates all of life, and that the artist naturally aligns with that creative source when he or she is in the act of creating. ,

It is the third in the trilogy which started with Beyond the Separate Self. Each book deals with Awakening, from the dream of being a separate object on the earth, and each is written so as to stand alone ... not requiring the reader to have read the other works. 'I really enjoyed the book. Anyone reading it should have no problem "getting" what awakening, awareness, and the function of the body/mind are all about. And you provide lots of supportive text from traditional sources to back-up your teachings.' - Jerry Katz Thanks, Colin for another fine dissertation......you are speaking the unspeakable clearer and clearer.- Paul Bedson. Fantastically well put. So simple any 'one' could get it! - Piers Mooreede As usual, this is an exceptionally lucid and practical discussion of the ephemeral "I" and the changeless Reality which underlies all. Well done! - Don Wolfe

Book Beyond Awakening

Download or read book Beyond Awakening written by Jeff Foster and published by . This book was released on 2007-06 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a book about the utterly obvious. It's about the spiritual search, and the frustrations surrounding it. It's about those ultimate goals we set ourselves: enlightenment, awakening, liberation, and how those goals can never actually be reached, because - and here's the great discovery the person who seeks them has no more reality than a presently-arising belief. That is to say, you are just a thought, happening now. A sequel to the bestselling Life Without A Centre: Awakening from the Dream of Separation, this book is packed with clear and vibrant expressions of nonduality. Time and time again, the text gently points back to the futility of both the spiritual search, and the search to end the search (another game the mind loves to play). With great humour, compassion and clarity, the book will draw you into a direct confrontation with your own absence, an absence which, paradoxically, is also a perfect presence. This may be the last book a spiritual seeker will ever need.

Book Susceptible to Light

  • Pages : 200 pages

Download or read book Susceptible to Light written by Chelan Harkin and published by . This book was released on 2020-12 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Susceptible to Light, by Chelan Harkin, is a collection of inspired poetry that is mystical and ecstatic in nature--mystical defined as anything having to do with opening the heart to light and ecstatic having to do with anything expressed from this place. Susceptible to Light is here to remind you of your joy, to assist you in reconsidering ways of relating to your life that better serve to open your heart, to deconstruct anything about God that doesn't feel close, intimate, authentic, and warm, and to remind your soul to break the surface and take a breath. Rumi says, "What was said to the rose that made it open was said to me here in my chest." May this collection help you feel a taste of that sweet openness. Hafiz says, "God and I have become like two giant fat people living in a tiny boat. We keep bumping into each other and laughing." May this collection help you feel the possibility of that kind of laughter. Eric Weiner, NY Times Bestselling Author of "The Geography of Bliss" says of Chelan's work: "These pages bear witness to a beautifully reckless and vulnerable love. Susceptible to Light shares the ineffable, all-consuming love of a Rumi or Hafiz, but situated in the here-and-now, amidst our dirty dishes and carpools. Do yourself a favor and savor these poems. Make yourself susceptible to their light." Alfred K. LaMotte, author of 'Wounded Bud' says of Chelan's work: "So much of today's 'spiritual poetry' is not poetry at all, but pedagogy, full of do's and don'ts. Chelan is a true spiritual poet because hers is not the voice of instruction but the voice of holy bewilderment. If she teaches us, she teaches us to dance. She teaches us the taste of what comes out of the grape when it gets crushed. All your tears will find sisters in her poems, and all your laughter will find a home in her belly. Her poems take us to the deepest, darkest loam, where lightning goes."

Book excerpt: The centuries have changed little in this art, The subjects are still the same.—Kenneth Rexroth Why poetry? What is poetry and why do people write it and read it? Why, as Dana Levin has written, "this urge to making a scrapbook of stars"? Every poet, by accident or design, has responded to "Why poetry" by writing a poem about poetry (an ars poetica). Whether these poems focus on the personal, political, or philosophical, each recognizes that our world is more complicated than a direct statement. As Marvin Bell has written, "Writing is all and everything." This anthology of poems about the art and life of poetry—which draws widely from Copper Canyon’s 30-year backlist of poetry books—proves him right. Poets write out of love and longing: Lord, let me live / long enough to dare /a love poem —Cyrus Cassells Poets confront suffering: since we will always have a suffering world, we must also always have a song.—David Budbill And poets write in order to live fully: We all stumble into ourselves /like this, fitting our fingers to the shape of letters,/ while the page gallops out of our reach—Rebecca Seiferle Only poetry lasts.—Ho Xuan Huong Michael Wiegers is the Managing Editor at Copper Canyon Press. Book Poetry of Spiritual Awakening

Download or read book Poetry of Spiritual Awakening written by Hilton L. Anderson and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2011-10-18 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Poetry of Spiritual Awakening presents a collection of poetry arranged in three groupings designed to indicate levels of conscious awareness experienced by author Hilton L. Anderson. Waking up spiritually is an individual process; even so, there are common themes experienced by many people that may help others in their own spiritual journey. In general terms, the separate ego state is focused primarily on the external reality while the spiritual is more focused on internal consciousness. Perhaps another way of explaining this spiritual awakening is recognizing the shift from the rational mind to heart consciousness. The way in which the poems of this collection are arranged is an attempt to make this shift obvious. Through the practice of forgiveness and the awareness of love, the separate self of the ego begins to lose its hold, allowing the awareness of the larger self to become the focus of attention. This awareness heals the separation of self from others and the Divine. Ultimately the awareness of the unitary nature of existence becomes known. The fear of death and its resolution are prominent concerns of many of the poems. The need to face the reality of death and understand it in a meaningful way is one of the basic learning explored by the poetry.
