Download or read book Prophet in the Wilderness written by Peter G. Earle and published by University of Texas Press. This book was released on 2014-03-01 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A universal test of great writers is the quality of their response to the human dilemma. Prophet in the Wilderness traces the development of that response in the works of the Argentine writer Ezequiel Martínez Estrada, from the first ambitious poems to its definitive expression in the essays and short stories. His theme is progressive disillusionment, in history and in personal experience, both of which are interpreted in his work as accumulations of error. Modern civilization, he believes, has created many more problems than it has solved. Like Schopenhauer, Freud, and Spengler, the three thinkers who influenced him most, Martínez Estrada found in real events and circumstances all the symbols of disenchantment. Many today have begun to share this disenchantment, for since the publication of X-Ray of the Pampa in 1933 the real world has become more and more like his symbolic world. Prophet in the Wilderness examines Martínez Estrada's foremost concern: the world as a complex reality to be discovered behind the image of one's own most intimate community. For him, the community assumed many forms: Buenos Aires, the enigmatic metropolis; the cathedral in his story "The Deluge"; the innumerable family of Marta Riquelme; Argentina itself in his masterpiece, X-Ray of the Pampa. Martínez Estrada is the great solitary of Hispanic American literature, independent of all fashions and trends. With Borges, he had become by 1950 one of the two most discussed writers in Argentina.

Download or read book La Billo s No Compadre Y Otros Relatos written by Guaregua William Guaregua and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2009-12 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Download or read book American Sabor written by Marisol Berros-Miranda and published by University of Washington Press. This book was released on 2017-12-19 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Evoking the pleasures of music as well as food, the word sabor signifies a rich essence that makes our mouths water or makes our bodies want to move. American Sabor traces the substantial musical contributions of Latinas and Latinos in American popular music between World War II and the present in five vibrant centers of Latin@ musical production: New York, Los Angeles, San Antonio, San Francisco, and Miami. From Tito Puentes mambo dance rhythms to the Spanglish rap of Mellow Man Ace, American Sabor focuses on musical styles that have developed largely in the United Statesincluding jazz, rhythm and blues, rock, punk, hip hop, country, Tejano, and salsabut also shows the many ways in which Latin@ musicians and styles connect US culture to the culture of the broader Americas. With side-by-side Spanish and English text, authors Marisol Berros-Miranda, Shannon Dudley, and Michelle Habell-Palln challenge the white and black racial framework that structures most narratives of popular music in the United States. They present the regional histories of Latin@ communitiesincluding Chicanos, Tejanos, and Puerto Ricansin distinctive detail, and highlight the shared experiences of immigration/migration, racial boundary crossing, contesting gender roles, youth innovation, and articulating an American experience through music. In celebrating the musical contributions of Latinos and Latinas, American Sabor illuminates a cultural legacy that enriches us all.
Download or read book Cr nicas de Am rica Latina written by Miguel Á. Novella and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-10-11 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Nacido Patria o Muerte written by Alejandro Roque Glez and published by Alejandro's Libros. This book was released on 2011-06 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
