Book Poems to Ponder on the Road to Life

Download or read book Poems to Ponder on the Road to Life written by Bruce K. Avenell and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2014-04-01 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do your horizons limit your dreamsor do your dreams expand your horizons? The poems included in Poems to Ponder on The Road to Life reveal personal experiences in expanding horizons as one learns how to travel on The Road TO Life. Poetic allusions spark the spirits curiosity to seek out the technique buried within the prose. Some of the poems are original while others were dictated from beings who have traversed The Road TO Life; a journey of the soul. Through all the dreams and apparent realities there is a way; a path when you find it; a road when you start to explore it; and a highway when you learn to travel upon it. It is a labyrinth of progressions that teach you how to manage the energy of divine life. You must learn how to hold the velocity, energy, and magic of that level of life in your own being. The poetry in the collection is about some of the authors experiences, observations, and conclusions as he journeyed back along The Road TO Life.

Book Just Below the Surface

Download or read book Just Below the Surface written by Rich Wilbur and published by . This book was released on 2014-02-14 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Poems are born in the warp and woof of our existence. They arise from the raw material of life and speak to the way we care and the things we share. They are a stop sign on the road of life, a pause to ponder the road behind and plan the trip ahead. Rich Wilbur makes this pause easy with Just Below the Surface, a book of poems that lights our path, stirs the soul and spurs the mind. "Life is an account holding the asset called time" one of his poems begins, and how we use this asset determines the quality of our brief stay on planet Earth. Often a poem is a quiet cove, a respite to reflect on the meaning of life. Rich asserts in "Destiny" that "a poem is a frown at the puzzle of existence, a furrow in the brow - inquisitive persistence." This inquisitive persistence gently leads the reader through poems entitled Eternity, Faith and Doubt, Freedom, Gratitude, Living Now, Melancholy, The Hourglass of Existence, Time, and more, all topics of keen interest to curious people. In part two, the poems celebrate love and family ("a collection of God given friends, bound by love until our journey ends"). Wilbur believes poetry is incurably infected with the events of life, and no events are as central to human happiness as love and family. This collection is a beautiful example of poetic expression, of graceful words provoking a response of the soul to the external world.

Download or read book More Than These written by Desmond E. R. Ottley and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2011-10 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These poems deal with how God, with tender love, powerful wisdom and patient invitation, intersects the lives of people, and how we may, if we wish, respond to such intervention. They touch on a variety of circumstances and influences that are the common experience of all, whether Christian or non-Christian: confusion, decision-making, defeat, disappointment, entanglement, forgiveness, marriage, national life, personal private devotion, prayer, resentment, success. It is hoped that the index of scriptural references will encourage the reader to build worthwhile bridges between scriptural truths and daily living; that the built-in metrical arrangements in the poems will encourage the singing of some of the poems as hymns, and that the content, convictions and connections expressed in each poem will, after the final poem is read, enable the reader to respond positively and sincerely to this powerful invitation from the triune God: I kept the cruse of oil from running dry; The loaves and fishes I did multiply; I rescued Daniel from the lion's den; I even gave my life for you. But then Your doubts still hold you in captivity. I'm in control, my child! Just trust in Me!

Whether you are new on your journey with Christ; youve experienced His love and care for years, or today you are considering receiving the gift of salvation, it is my hope that Poetry 2 Ponder will be a blessing. The term vessel is likened to a tug boat for me. Prompted to step out of my comfort zone, to see God at work, has been an incredible journey. Book Reflections and Poetry to Ponder

Download or read book Reflections and Poetry to Ponder written by Diane Hicks White and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2009-08-10 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My poetry can best be described as a personal journey lived through depression. From childhood through adulthood I have existed with depression. I have always enjoyed reading and so with reading, the idea of writing poetry came to mind. Being able to express my emotions has played a big part on my road to recovery. Seeing people like myself has helped me give more understanding of how depression affects the mind. Through my poetry I have been able to talk of these emotions through faith in others who have helped me and through my faith in God who has never left me. I try to end my poetry not in negativity but with a purposeful emotion that will give the reader hope, a hope that he or she will someday reach, that pinnacle in their lives that will help them to see beyond that hopelessness of depression. Memories, now past and gone, Tomorrow will bring a brand new dawn. The past has gone, the future is now, But you sit and wonder what it will turn into; The things you have failed, you ponder why, And wonder if life is passing you by. Your hopes and dreams you placed aside, But as you look around there is nowhere to hide, Your fear of failure and crumbling plans, Deter you from seeing the gift in your hands. A vision is a personal goal, not a chore. God gave it to you to feel confident and secure; Even when others do not understand, Be steadfast and let your vision expand. Your steps are ordered in God’s will, Stay on your knees and consult him until; The way unfolds and is revealed to you, And you know exactly what God wants you to do. “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and he delighteth in his way”. Psalms 37: 23-26.

Palmer comes a brave and beautiful book for all who want to age reflectively, seeking new insights and life-giving ways to engage in the world. “Age itself,” he says, “is no excuse to wade in the shallows. It’s a reason to dive deep and take creative risks.” Looking back on eight decades of life—and on his work as a writer, teacher, and activist—Palmer explores what he’s learning about self and world, inviting readers to explore their own experience. In prose and poetry—and three downloadable songs written for the book by the gifted Carrie Newcomer—he meditates on the meanings of life, past, present, and future. Book excerpt: For me, poems are hard to come by. An inspiration comes sailing into my brain like a big bird. Like a big bird, it flies right out again. If I've captured a feather, I consider myself much improved. If I can manage to put down the thought, I can usually, over the next weeks fill in the blanks. The thing is like a lump of mud on a potter's wheel. Sometimes I can never shape anything of interest out of it. Once in a while it comes out looking pretty good. Other times, I have to throw the marred lump on the potsherd heap. Very discouraging. I'd like to be a poet, but is very demanding. Anyway, I love to fool around with words. I hope you enjoy reading what I've done.

Download or read book The Road Not Taken written by David Orr and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2015-08-18 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A cultural “biography” of Robert Frost’s beloved poem, arguably the most popular piece of literature written by an American “Two roads diverged in a yellow wood . . .” One hundred years after its first publication in August 1915, Robert Frost’s poem “The Road Not Taken” is so ubiquitous that it’s easy to forget that it is, in fact, a poem. Yet poetry it is, and Frost’s immortal lines remain unbelievably popular. And yet in spite of this devotion, almost everyone gets the poem hopelessly wrong. David Orr’s The Road Not Taken dives directly into the controversy, illuminating the poem’s enduring greatness while revealing its mystifying contradictions. Widely admired as the poetry columnist for The New York Times Book Review, Orr is the perfect guide for lay readers and experts alike. Orr offers a lively look at the poem’s cultural influence, its artistic complexity, and its historical journey from the margins of the First World War all the way to its canonical place today as a true masterpiece of American literature. “The Road Not Taken” seems straightforward: a nameless traveler is faced with a choice: two paths forward, with only one to walk. And everyone remembers the traveler taking “the one less traveled by, / And that has made all the difference.” But for a century readers and critics have fought bitterly over what the poem really says. Is it a paean to triumphant self-assertion, where an individual boldly chooses to live outside conformity? Or a biting commentary on human self-deception, where a person chooses between identical roads and yet later romanticizes the decision as life altering? What Orr artfully reveals is that the poem speaks to both of these impulses, and all the possibilities that lie between them. The poem gives us a portrait of choice without making a decision itself. And in this, “The Road Not Taken” is distinctively American, for the United States is the country of choice in all its ambiguous splendor. Published for the poem’s centennial—along with a new Penguin Classics Deluxe Edition of Frost’s poems, edited and introduced by Orr himself—The Road Not Taken is a treasure for all readers, a triumph of artistic exploration and cultural investigation that sings with its own unforgettably poetic voice.

Book excerpt: Reality poetry is poems of all walks of life from people in prison to farmers working the land, and some are history of the old west and some outlaws and Sheriffs and Indians . A few are in series form telling about outlaws or Indian wars and so forth, so those will be more than one poem written in sequence. I try to make it so the person reading it becomes the person in the poem. The reality of being in someone else's shoes as the old Indian saying goes. Feeling the pain and anguish of someone else and also the joy when something good is happening. Reality can be hard sometimes but is needed to fulfill our life while here on earth.
