Elvira Hernández Poeta chilena In Poems of Debris and Ashes, Consuelo Hernández, the author, provides us with critical, urgent, and irrepressible words. And so it goes, down the road of what seems to be our history a string of catastrophes that knock us down to put these verses on high, making the warning visible, with the hope that someone will pause. • Pages : 120 pages

Download or read book Poemas de la Isla written by Josefina de la Torre and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Born in the Canary Islands in 1907, Josefina de la Torre was one of only two women included in Gerardo Diego's prestigious Poesia espanola (1934). Between 1927 and 1935 she lived in Madrid, impressing Federico Garcia Lorca, Rafael Alberti, Pedro Salinas, and others in the Generation of 1927 with both her talent and beauty. De la Torre is the author of four collections of poems and two short novels. Regardless of the popularity and critical success of her work in the Spanish-speaking world, this is the first time any of de la Torre's books have been published in English. Carlos Reyes's thoughtful and spirited translation of two volumes of her poetry will bring this important poet to an audience long deprived of the beauty and power of her work.

Days later he writes another poem with a tone similar to the first, entitles it 'Anima', then realizes he has just begun a series which must all bear the same title. Furthermore, the man decides that in the future and till the day of his death he is going to continue writing poems that, since they have this tone, will bear the title 'Anima.' At the end of a year, having written some 150 poems, he extracts from the accumulated mass 60 poems called 'Anima'"—José Kozer.

Book Poetry as Play

  • Author : Maria Cristina Quintero
  • Publisher : John Benjamins Publishing
  • Release : 1991-01-01
  • ISBN : 9027217610
  • Pages : 280 pages

Download or read book Poetry as Play written by Maria Cristina Quintero and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 1991-01-01 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the Golden Age, poetry and drama entered into a dynamic intertextual and intergeneric exchange. The Comedia appropriated the different poetic currents prevalent during the Renaissance and also often enacted the controversies surrounding poetic language. Of particular interest is the influence of gongorismo on the comedia. Luis de Góngora himself experimented with dramatic form in his two little-known plays, Las firmezas de Isabela and El doctor Carlino. In his quest for effective dramatic language, Lope de Vega dramatized Gongorine language through both parody and respectful imitation. Calderón de la Barca, whose plays represent the culmination of Góngora's influence on Golden Age theater, transformed gongorismo into a rich, performative code that functions simultaneously as poetic discourse and dramatic convention.

Book World Literature in Spanish 3 volumes

Download or read book World Literature in Spanish 3 volumes written by Maureen Ihrie and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2011-10-20 with total page 1509 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Containing roughly 850 entries about Spanish-language literature throughout the world, this expansive work provides coverage of the varied countries, ethnicities, time periods, literary movements, and genres of these writings. Providing a thorough introduction to Spanish-language literature worldwide and across time is a tall order. However, World Literature in Spanish: An Encyclopedia contains roughly 850 entries on both major and minor authors, themes, genres, and topics of Spanish literature from the Middle Ages to the present day, affording an amazingly comprehensive reference collection in a single work. This encyclopedia describes the growing diversity within national borders, the increasing interdependence among nations, and the myriad impacts of Spanish literature across the globe. All countries that produce literature in Spanish in Europe, Africa, the Americas, and Asia are represented, covering both canonical authors and emerging contemporary writers and trends. Underrepresented writings—such as texts by women writers, queer and Afro-Hispanic texts, children's literature, and works on relevant but less studied topics such as sports and nationalism—also appear. While writings throughout the centuries are covered, those of the 20th and 21st centuries receive special consideration.

Book The Borders of Dominicanidad

Download or read book The Borders of Dominicanidad written by Lorgia García Peña and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 2016-10-13 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Borders of Dominicanidad Lorgia García-Peña explores the ways official narratives and histories have been projected onto racialized Dominican bodies as a means of sustaining the nation's borders. García-Peña constructs a genealogy of dominicanidad that highlights how Afro-Dominicans, ethnic Haitians, and Dominicans living abroad have contested these dominant narratives and their violent, silencing, and exclusionary effects. Centering the role of U.S. imperialism in drawing racial borders between Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and the United States, she analyzes musical, visual, artistic, and literary representations of foundational moments in the history of the Dominican Republic: the murder of three girls and their father in 1822; the criminalization of Afro-religious practice during the U.S. occupation between 1916 and 1924; the massacre of more than 20,000 people on the Dominican-Haitian border in 1937; and the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. García-Peña also considers the contemporary emergence of a broader Dominican consciousness among artists and intellectuals that offers alternative perspectives to questions of identity as well as the means to make audible the voices of long-silenced Dominicans.
