Book excerpt: Dr. Lisette Garcia is an experimental psychologist, human rights activist, Buddhist scholar, and Latina percussionist. Her first book, "Poderosas: Conversations with Extraordinary Women," is a series of stories that take place between Dr. Garcia, her husband Barrett Martin, and 12 extraordinary women. Each woman is highly accomplished in her field, none have sought fame, yet all have made an indelible mark on their respective communities. These conversations take place in unusual and sometimes exotic locations, as these women describe their work and life experiences: A Latina pediatrician at a Texas barbeque, a Cherokee healer during a sweat lodge ceremony, two Shipibo shamans in the Peruvian Amazon Rainforest, an anthropologist in a noisy New York restaurant, a Tlingit professor in her cozy Alaskan home, a Zen master in her Los Angeles Zendo, two mothers in their homes near the Mexico border and the Pacific Northwest, an African American dancer in a New York studio, and an artist in her pick up truck, speeding across the New Mexico desert. Each of these stories show how powerful a woman can when she embraces her circumstances, envisions her life, and then transforms herself into a "Poderosa" - a powerful woman, who affects real change in her corner of the world.

Book KDP da Amazon e Redes de Afiliados Estrat gias Poderosas para Multiplicar Suas Vendas

Download or read book KDP da Amazon e Redes de Afiliados Estrat gias Poderosas para Multiplicar Suas Vendas written by MAX EDITORIAL and published by Max Editorial. This book was released on 2024-09-16 with total page 89 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Aprenda Muito Mais...

Book AC E Digital Culture Annual Report 2016

Download or read book AC E Digital Culture Annual Report 2016 written by Javier Celaya and published by Dosdoce. This book was released on 2016-04-05 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Following the excellent reception of the first two editions of the AC/E Digital Culture Annual Report (2014 and 2015) – more than 5,000 copies of each have been distributed over the past two years – we are pleased to share with culture sector professionals the third edition, which sets out to analyse the impact of new technologies on artistic creation and their use at cultural festivals. To achieve this aim, the broad-ranging content of the third edition of the report has been divided into two main sections to make it easier to read for the different audiences at which it is aimed. 'Smart Culture' is the overarching theme established by the Advisory Committee of the AC/E Digital Culture Annual Report 2016 as a basis for choosing the six articles that make up the first part of this year's edition. Just as the first report's Focus dealt with the impact of the Internet on the performing arts (theatre, opera, dance, ballet, etc.) and that of the second edition analysed the use of new technologies in the world of museums, for this third edition it conducts a thorough analysis of the use of new technologies at some 50 Spanish and foreign cultural festivals.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hacking Gender and Technology in Journalism addresses the question of whether journalism’s new digital spaces suffer from the same gendered structures as traditional media organisations, or whether they go beyond such bias. This book offers insights into the challenges that women journalists face in relation to technological innovation, as well as the potential for developing strategies for empowerment that it offers. More specifically, there is a focus on the gendering of digital skills, the construction of gender in new digital spheres of journalism, and how these changes can lead to the disruption of gender inequalities in journalism. This book will be of interest to scholars in multimedia journalism, media ethics, and gender studies. Book The Movement for Reproductive Justice

Download or read book The Movement for Reproductive Justice written by Patricia Zavella and published by NYU Press. This book was released on 2020-05-19 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 2021 Outstanding Academic Title, Choice Magazine Shows how reproductive justice organizations' collaborative work across racial lines provides a compelling model for other groups to successfully influence change Patricia Zavella experienced firsthand the trials and judgments imposed on a working professional mother of color: her own commitment to academia was questioned during her pregnancy, as she was shamed for having children "too young." And when she finally achieved her professorship, she felt out of place as one of the few female faculty members with children. These experiences sparked Zavella’s interest in the movement for reproductive justice. In this book, she draws on five years of ethnographic research to explore collaborations among women of color engaged in reproductive justice activism. While there are numerous organizations focused on reproductive justice, most are racially specific, such as the National Asian Pacific American Women's Forum and Black Women for Wellness. Yet Zavella reveals that many of these organizations have built coalitions among themselves, sharing resources and supporting each other through different campaigns and struggles. While the coalitions are often regional—or even national—the organizations themselves remain racially or ethnically specific, presenting unique challenges and opportunities for the women involved. Zavella argues that these organizations provide a compelling model for negotiating across differences within constituencies. In the context of the war on women's reproductive rights and its disproportionate effect on women of color, and increased legal violence toward immigrants, and now incorporating an updated preface addressing the Dobbs decision which struck down Roe v. Wade, The Movement for Reproductive Justice demonstrates that a truly intersectional movement built on grassroots organizing, culture shift work, and policy advocating can offer visions of strength, resiliency, and dignity for all.

Download or read book Finding Latinx written by Paola Ramos and published by Vintage. This book was released on 2020-10-20 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Latinos across the United States are redefining identities, pushing boundaries, and awakening politically in powerful and surprising ways. Many—Afrolatino, indigenous, Muslim, queer and undocumented, living in large cities and small towns—are voices who have been chronically overlooked in how the diverse population of almost sixty million Latinos in the U.S. has been represented. No longer. In this empowering cross-country travelogue, journalist and activist Paola Ramos embarks on a journey to find the communities of people defining the controversial term, “Latinx.” She introduces us to the indigenous Oaxacans who rebuilt the main street in a post-industrial town in upstate New York, the “Las Poderosas” who fight for reproductive rights in Texas, the musicians in Milwaukee whose beats reassure others of their belonging, as well as drag queens, environmental activists, farmworkers, and the migrants detained at our border. Drawing on intensive field research as well as her own personal story, Ramos chronicles how “Latinx” has given rise to a sense of collectivity and solidarity among Latinos unseen in this country for decades. A vital and inspiring work of reportage, Finding Latinx calls on all of us to expand our understanding of what it means to be Latino and what it means to be American. The first step towards change, writes Ramos, is for us to recognize who we are.

Download or read book Aftermath written by Elizabeth G. Hines and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2022-10-11 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After nearly fifty years as settled constitutional law, the federally protected right to an abortion in America is now a thing of the past. The Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade has left Americans without a guaranteed right to access abortion―and the cost of that upheaval will be most painfully felt by individuals who already struggle with access to resources: the poor, Black and brown communities, and members of the LGBTQIA+ population. Pulling together the experiences, expertise, and perspectives of more than 30 writers, thinkers, and activists, Aftermath: Life in Post-Roe America offers a searing look at the critical role Roe has played in improving women’s and pregnant people’s lives, what a future without Roe may look like, and what options exist for us to secure reproductive freedom in the future. With contributions from Jessica Valenti, Soraya Chemaly, Michele Goodwin, Alyssa Milano, Ruby Sales, Heather Cox Richardson, Robin Marty, Linda Villarosa, Jennifer Baumgardner and more, this anthology is essential reading for anyone who cares about the future of reproductive rights in America―and beyond.

Book Images of Women in Hispanic Culture

Download or read book Images of Women in Hispanic Culture written by Teresa Fernandez Ulloa and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2016-08-17 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book studies the ways traditional polarized images of women have been used and challenged in the Hispanic world, especially during the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century by writers and the media, but also in earlier time periods. The chapters analyze the image of women in specific political periods such as Francoism or the Kirchners’ administration, stereotypes of women in films in Mexico and Chile, and the representation of women in textbooks, among other topics. Contributions also show how two women writers, in the 17th and the 19th centuries, viewed the role of women in their society.

Download or read book The Hispano Portuguese Empire and Its Contacts with Safavid Persia the Kingdom of Hormuz and Yarubid Oman from 1489 to 1720 written by Willem M. Floor and published by Peeters Publishers. This book was released on 2007 with total page 582 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Given the important role that the Portuguese played in the Persian Gulf from 1507 to 1720, knowing what is available about their activities in this area is not only of importance to those interested in the history of Portugal, but also of those interested in the history of Bahrein, Iran, Iraq, Oman, Qatar, eastern Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. This bibliography of printed published works therefore contains a full list of primary and secondary sources, not only in Western languages, but also in Persian, Arabic and Turkish. It aims to facilitate the work of scholars and students, but also of the non-specialist, i.e. those among the general public who want to know more about this part of the world during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries and about the activities of the Portuguese. Although other bibliographies exist that include the activities of the Portuguese in the Persian Gulf, all are in need of updating, and none are as comprehensive as this bibliography.

Book Sexuality and Eroticism in a Post pandemic World

Download or read book Sexuality and Eroticism in a Post pandemic World written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-09-20 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The cultural change denominated as “the new normal” goes far beyond the adaptation to habits like physical distancing, limited person-to-person contact, teleworking, and self-isolation established with the COVID-19 pandemic. A series of significant transformations in human behavior spreads today in societies all around the world: physical intimacy decreases while virtual reality expands and alterity declines while artificial intelligence emerges, leading to structural reconfigurations of sex, relationships, gender awareness, and subjectivity. Sexuality and Eroticism in a Post-pandemic World explores this new cultural atmosphere through twelve interdisciplinary essays questioning global governmentality and challenging the biopolitics of the new normal—the administration of self-control societies so politically correct that repressed desire for otherness only finds a simulation of its satisfaction with the forced abnormality, outrageousness, and violence of mainstream porn—, going from ars erotica to alternative pornography, from online dating to gender fluidity, from LGBTQI+ artivism to sex life cultivation, and more.
