The benefit of this new radicals index is that:1) Characters are listed under radicals that occur strictly at the start of each character. 2) Simplified and Traditional characters are listed in the same radicals index.3) This new index indicates the correct normal writing order of parts within a character.The phonetic spelling of the Wu dialect used in this dictionary, applies not just to Shanghainese, but other members of the Wu dialect, such as the dialects of Hangzhou, Quzhou, Wenzhou Shaoxing, and Ningbo in Zhejiang, and Suzhou in southern Jiangsu. This phonetic spelling is from the '2006 The Manual of the Shanghaian'. It distinguishes between all traditional 8 tones of Wu dialect without the use of any accents or tone numbers. This dictionary also describes the syllabic tones for each of the above mentioned regions, including modern Shanghainese, which only has 5 tones. It also includes a detailed introduction to Shanghainese tone sandhi.
