Book excerpt: Big Bad Gator Claude will do anything to have a taste of Petite Rouge...even if it means putting on a duck bill, flippers, and frilly underwear. He presents no match for the spunky heroine and her quick-thinking cat TeJean, though, as they use some strong Cajun hot sauce to teach Claude a lesson he will never forget! The combination of hilarious rhyme and exaggerated art creates a highly original retelling of the classic fairy tale. A pronunciation guide/glossary accompanies a tempting dialect that begs to be read aloud or acted out again and again. This is Little Red Riding Hood as she's never been seen before: Cajun and ducky.

Book Petite Belle

Download or read book Petite Belle written by Petite Belle and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2012 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Imagine, every day of your life being told that you was born weighing less than a pound and not knowing what an infant of normal weight looked like. My mom said I was so tiny, I could be held in one hand. I am presently over sixty years old. My name is Petite Belle: How I Got My Name is a non-fiction account of the first five months of my life. I weighed less than 400 grams. I will take you on a day-to-day journey of my survival. I survived with almost no medical issues. This is almost unheard of for a baby weighing less than a pound. I have dedicated my time to the production of three more books in the works. No parts of this book may be reproduced or utilized in any form or by any means, electronic or mechanical, including photocopying, recordings, media, or by any information, storage and retrieval, system, without expressed written consent of the author. Until this day, I have not seen a live infant of this size- less than 400 grams. I graduated in 1972, as a clinical Laboratory Technologist. My study was the field of Clinical Pathology - Disease causing organism. My first job was, A Histology Technician. This field of medicine studied human tissue, preserved to show its state as it is in life. I did see infants that weighed less than 400 grams, but the preservative caused it to alter its shape. The normal infant no longer existed by the time I saw it. In my ten years of searching for information about my birth, I heard many stories, many, many times, up until months of completing of my book. On a visit to South Carolina, to nurse a bed ridden aunt back to health, I spent a month with them. It was like a family reunion. We talked, cooked many dishes, talked and argued about our family history. There was much discussion of oral family history, which much of it was before I could remember. This helped me put the puzzle of my young life together.

Book Petite Anglaise

Download or read book Petite Anglaise written by Catherine Sanderson and published by Anchor Canada. This book was released on 2010-10-29 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “When Tadpole was born, I spent a sleepless night on the maternity ward gazing intently into her inky, newborn eyes, grappling to come to terms with the indisputable fact that this was an actual person looking back at me, not just a version of Mr. Frog, or me, or both, in miniature. From the outset she seemed to know what she wanted, and I realized I could have no inkling of the paths she would choose to follow. But if I watch her life unfold carefully enough, perhaps I will see clear signposts pointing to who or what she will become. Because when I look backward, ransacking my own past for clues with the clarity that only hindsight can bring, a series of defining moments do stand out. Moments charged with significance; snapshots of myself which, if I join the dots together, lead me unswervingly to where I stand today: from French, to France, to Paris, and to Petite Anglaise.” [ed. note - excerpted from Petite Anglaise, p.4] Catherine Sanderson has a beautiful bilingual daughter, an authentic French boyfriend, and a Paris apartment with bohemian charm. She has what she has always wanted — a life in France. Growing up in Yorkshire amidst a traditional family, Catherine had set her sights on a different life — a life that would immerse her in an exotic language and culture. From grammar school French lessons to teaching English in Normandy and finally to a permanent job in Paris, she was determined that France would be the place she would call home. But now that she does, things are not so idyllic. Catherine wonders just when her life in Paris turned from wine to vinegar: She’s stuck in a dead-end administrative job, her relationship with her boyfriend has settled into a dreary routine, and the birth of their daughter has not helped to reignite the dying fire of her relationship. The remedy to her dissatisfaction arrives in the morning headlines. While scanning the news of the day, Catherine becomes intrigued by a story profiling an internet diarist. After exploring one blog after another, and in one exhilarating moment, Catherine decides to create her own online persona, her jardin secret. At that moment, she is transformed from Catherine to Petite Anglaise, her boyfriend to Mr. Frog, her daughter to Tadpole, and her life to something she could never have predicted. What begins as a lighthearted diversion, a place to discuss the fish-out-of water challenges of ex-pat life in Paris, soon gives way to a raw forum for her to bare her most intimate secrets and impulsive desires. Thousands of readers log-on to the blog and are witness to the ever-widening gulf between Petite Anglaise and Mr. Frog. Those public revelations of her growing frustrations, which play out in each successive post, begin to surreptitiously yet irrevocably erode their relationship.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the tradition of Patrick O’Brian’s adventure novels and C.S. Forester’s Horatio Hornblower series, A Shred of Honour is an epic of eighteenth-century warfare that introduces Lieutenant George Markham of His Majesty’s Royal Marines. Irishman, papist, reputed coward: Markham is a man with something to prove. The death of his commander—killed by a lucky French musket ball to the throat—provides him with a chance to lead his men to glory. But it’s not that easy. Markham, a foot soldier by training, is no sailor, and he is suddenly left with a band of surly, disgruntled conscripts under his command. The salty marines aboard the frigate Hebe deride his ignorance and undermine his authority. The soldiers from Markham’s old regiment who have been transferred to the Hebe blame him for the fact that they now must spend their days crammed on a ship. Worse, as the winter of 1793 comes, Markham and his troublemaking men must face the expansive terror of Revolutionary France. The fighting takes Markham to the city of Toulon, where he makes the acquaintance of a French soldier named Napoleon Bonaparte. Acclaimed author David Donachie follows Markham through bloody battles, lively seductions, fights with superiors, and run-ins with French spies to offer a stirring tale of derring-do that heats the blood and fires the imagination.
