This volume is organized into two parts. The first part presents papers discussing structure determination by the use of spectroscopy. Topics covered under this section include ion cyclotron resonance, some aspects of photoelectron spectroscopy, and the LASER-Raman spectroscopy of biological macromolecules. The second part provides the advances in conformational analysis. This section considers the study of small model molecules by NMR, the conformational analysis of polymers and their model compounds using spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and energy calculations, and the theoretical and experimental studies which are being carried out to determine the factors which affect the folding of polypeptide chains in proteins. Chemists will find this text highly invaluable and insightful.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chromatography approaches are widely used in various life science applications. Since its invention by the Russian botanist Mikhail S. Tsvet in 1901, chromatography has increasingly developed into an invaluable laboratory tool for the separation and identification of chemical components. It outperforms older techniques (such as crystallization, solvent extraction, and distillation) by offering unequaled resolving power and the possibility of lowering detection limits to below nanogram levels. To further improve chromatographic methods, however, the use of chemometrics is advisable as an economical alternative to resolve any problematic situations in analysis. This book intends to provide the readers with an up-to-date application of chemometrics and data analysis to different types of chromatographic methods.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 25th International Congress of Pure and Applied Chemistry presents a compilation of papers covering a wide range of topics on applied and pure chemistry. This book discusses the challenges in the field of aromatic photosubstitution. Organized into six chapters, this book begins with an overview of the diverse reactions of aromatic molecules. This text then examines the pattern of specific RNA found in the human tumors, which showed a notable concordance with the predictions deducible from the animal system. Other chapters consider the methods of estimation of chemical fuels and describe the greenhouse effect arising from the burning of coal. This book presents as well an assessment of some features of the impact of quantum mechanics on chemistry. The final chapter deals with molecular beam and spectroscopic methods that allow a detailed investigation of several dynamical properties of single reactive collisions. This book is a valuable resource for chemists, theoreticians, research workers, and scientists.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Activities in optical spectrometry included development of programs for calculations on a time-sharing computer, measurement of arc temperatures, applications of the laser probe and the plasma jet, and studies on atomic absorption spectrometry. In x-ray spectroscopy, there were some modifications of equipment, improvements in computation methods, and several applications. Improvements and additions were made to the electron probe analyzer, along with studies on measurement techniques, including nondispersive analysis and computation procedures. The spark-source mass spectrometer was also modified, and a new analog computer has been built and tested for reduction of photographic plate data; applications of this instrument to analyses of pure materials are described. Enrichment methods are being studied for the analysis of pure materials by emission spectroscopy, particularly with an electro-deposition technique. Homogeneity studies and analyses were performed in the development of standard reference materials. (Author).
