Book excerpt: THE YEARNING OF YAHVEH In terms of man’s morality, the Old Testament is an account of tragic failure. Israel strayed repeatedly from the path mapped out by God, and He corrected them repeatedly with tough-love discipline. From the viewpoint of God’s love, the Old Testament is a journal of immense compassion. Despite Israel’s failures, God kept yearning for their genuine trust and love. He refused to give up on them and called them back by His prophets who relentlessly declared, “Thus says the LORD.” The LORD is a translation of the Hebrew name Yahveh, God’s personal name He revealed to Moses at the burning bush. The Yearning of Yahveh takes the reader on an exciting one-page-per-day journey through the Old Testament. Join the tour and discover the gospel in the scrolls of Hebrew Scripture.

Download or read book The Polish American written by Edward Jesko and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2007-04 with total page 852 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author came to United States, for the first time, in 1943. He was then ten years old. A US Navy ship brought him to San Diego, California, straight from a concentration camp. Unfortunately, the United States government did not let him remain. So he went to Mexico, where he lived in a refugee camp for five years. When the camp was terminated, he was compelled to struggle. In order to survive, he held many jobs. At fifteen he worked as a roofer, a logger, and a sawmill helper, neglecting his formal education because of lack of time and opportunity. He immigrated to USA in 1951. This time he was allowed to stay. Here, because of his Polish origin, he suffered rejection, degradation, and discrimination. Here for the first time in his life, he was called a Dumb Polak and a White Nigger. Here he was subjected to the so-called offensive Polish jokes. This plus discrimination, rejection and degradation made his life a never-ending torment, a hell on earth! This autobiography was written in the form of a novel, and it is a continuation of author's first book: A Journey Into Exile-the first part of his life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A dazzling memoir that explores what it means to become fully alive and holy when we embrace the silenced stories we’ve inherited—from the creator of Black Coffee with White Friends. “Marcie Alvis Walker writes with an honesty that is both dauntless and compassionate.”—Cole Arthur Riley, author of This Here Flesh In her debut book, Everybody Come Alive, Marcie Alvis Walker invites readers into a deeply intimate and illuminating memoir comprising lyrical essays and remembrances of being a curious child of the seventies and eighties, raised under the critical and watchful eye of Jim Crow matriarchs who struggled to integrate their lives and remain whole. While swimming in rivers of racial trauma and racial reckoning, Alvis Walker explores her earliest memories—of abandonment and erasure, of her mother’s mental illness and incarceration, and of her ongoing struggles with perfectionism and body dysmorphia—in hopes of leaving a healed and whole legacy for her own child. Nostalgic but unflinching, candid yet tender, Everybody Come Alive is an invitation to be vulnerable along with the author as she unravels all the beauty and terror of God, race, and gender’s imprint on her life. This is a coming-of-age journey touching on the bittersweet pain and joy of what it takes to become a person who embraces being Black, a woman, and holy in America. Alvis Walker’s unforgettable writing challenges readers to not only see and hold her story as being fully human, but also to see and hold their own stories too.
