Book Ljubljana a City by Heart Joze Plecnik s Legacy and Contemporary Architecture

Download or read book Ljubljana a City by Heart Joze Plecnik s Legacy and Contemporary Architecture written by Domenico Potenza and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nowadays there are many studies, researches and publications about Joze Plecnik's work, as well as there are many authors who contributed to the knowledge and divulgation of the great Slovenian master work.0The text in here, driven in this track, does not have the pretension to add brand new revelations about his work, but using the past litterature, it tries to underline the contemporaneity of his lesson, into urban transformations of the last thirty years' Ljubljana.0The same transformations which allowed Ljubljana to be awarded with prestigious international prizes, such as the European Prize for Public Space (2012) and the one for the Green European Capital (2016).0A result achieved by continuing the original urban vision traced by Plecnik in the city modifications plan and its many projects left as an inheritance. This heritage seemed to be precious for the intelligent work of the new administrators of the municipality whom, starting from the sensibility of authoritative experts such as Janez Kozelj, have returned to the Slovenian capital its original splendor.0They are an integrative part of this story: the presentation of Jurij Kobe, the conversation with Janez Kozelj himself and the contribution of Miha Desman; as well as the photos of Ljubljana, taken by Luigi Ghirri in 1988 (kindly provided free of charge for this pubblication by the Heirs) and the final photographic reportage, on the city today, created by Sergio Camplone in 2018.0The publication enclose a map of Ljubljana, folded as a cover, which shows the main works of Ple?nik together with contemporary architecture.

Book Architectural Type and Character

Download or read book Architectural Type and Character written by Samir Younés and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2022-01-31 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Architectural Type and Character provides an alternative perspective to the current role given to history in architecture, reunifying architectural history and architectural design to reform architectural discourse and practice. Historians provide important material for appreciating buildings and guiding those who produce them. In current histories, a building is the product of a time, its form follows its function, irresistible influences produce it, and style, preferably novel, is its most important attribute. This book argues for an alternative. Through a two-part structure, the book first develops the theoretical foundations for this alternative history of architecture. The second part then provides drawings and interpretations of over one hundred sites from different times and places. Architectural Type and Character: A Practical Guide to a History of Architecture is an excellent desk reference and studio guide for students and architectures alike to understand, analyze, and create buildings.

Structured around a series of case studies including Prague, Mexico, Malaysia and Boston, the authors discuss an array of design approaches to explain and define the complex interrelated concepts. The concluding sections of the book suggest ideas for practical application in future design processes. The book forms new starting points and a classification of supernatural beings within a frame of a number of sources, some of which have been published for the first time in this book.

Book Introduction to Noncommutative Algebra

Download or read book Introduction to Noncommutative Algebra written by Matej Brešar and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-10-14 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Providing an elementary introduction to noncommutative rings and algebras, this textbook begins with the classical theory of finite dimensional algebras. Only after this, modules, vector spaces over division rings, and tensor products are introduced and studied. This is followed by Jacobson's structure theory of rings. The final chapters treat free algebras, polynomial identities, and rings of quotients. Many of the results are not presented in their full generality. Rather, the emphasis is on clarity of exposition and simplicity of the proofs, with several being different from those in other texts on the subject. Prerequisites are kept to a minimum, and new concepts are introduced gradually and are carefully motivated. Introduction to Noncommutative Algebra is therefore accessible to a wide mathematical audience. It is, however, primarily intended for beginning graduate and advanced undergraduate students encountering noncommutative algebra for the first time.

Book Subjective Lives and Economic Transformations in Mongolia

Download or read book Subjective Lives and Economic Transformations in Mongolia written by Rebecca M. Empson and published by UCL Press. This book was released on 2020-06-01 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Almost 10 years ago the mineral-rich country of Mongolia experienced very rapid economic growth, fuelled by China’s need for coal and copper. New subjects, buildings, and businesses flourished, and future dreams were imagined and hoped for. This period of growth is, however, now over. Mongolia is instead facing high levels of public and private debt, conflicts over land and sovereignty, and a changed political climate that threatens its fragile democratic institutions. Subjective Lives and Economic Transformations in Mongolia details this complex story through the intimate lives of five women. Building on long-term friendships, which span over 20 years, Rebecca documents their personal journeys in an ever-shifting landscape. She reveals how these women use experiences of living a ‘life in the gap’ to survive the hard reality between desired outcomes and their actual daily lives. In doing so, she offers a completely different picture from that presented by economists and statisticians of what it is like to live in this fluctuating extractive economy.
