This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Legumes include many very important crop plants that contribute very critical protein to the diets of both humans and animals around the world. Their unique ability to fix atmospheric nitrogen in association with Rhizobia enriches soil fertility, and establishes the importance of their niche in agriculture. Divided into two volumes, this work presents an up-to-date analysis of in vitro and recombinant DNA technologies for the improvement of grain, forage and tree legumes. Volume 10B presents the current state and future prospects of in vitro regeneration and genetic transformation expression and stability of transgenes modification of traits in almost all the important legumes, for example: soybean; peanut; pea; french bean; chick pea; pigeon pea; cowpea; mung bean; black gram; azuki bean; lentil; Lathyrus; lupinus; Lotus spp; Medicago spp; Trifolium spp; Winged bean; Guar; and tree legumes for their improvement.

Download or read book In Vitro Embryogenesis in Plants written by Trevor A. Thorpe and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 560 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In vitro Embryogenesis in Plants is the first book devoted exclusively to this topic. As the ultimate demonstration of totipotency in plants, somatic and haploid embryogenesis is of vital importance to all those working on or interested in basic and applied aspects of plantlet information and regeneration. The text includes comprehensive reviews written by experts, on all facts of in vitro and in vivo embryogenesis. Some chapters deal with the morphogenic, structural and developmental, physiological and biochemical, and molecular biological aspects of the subject. Chapters are also devoted to haploid embryogenesis, asexual embryogenesis in nature, zygotic embryogenesis, and zygotic embryo culture. Detailed tables summarizing successful somatic embryogenesis in all vascular plants are also included. This book, therefore, brings together previously scattered information to provide an indispensable reference book for both active researchers, graduate students and anyone interested in this aspect of tissue culture technology and plant development.

Download or read book Plant Tissue Culture written by Sant Saran Bhojwani and published by Elsevier Publishing Company. This book was released on 1986 with total page 816 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The tremendous accumulation of information on plant tissue culture is making it extremely difficult for anyone to keep fully abreast with the literature even in his own specialised area. Therefore, the authors have compiled a bibliography of plant tissue culture as a ready reference for those who are already working in this field, and have also made the task easier for those who have become interested in plant tissue culture. The idea of preparing the bibliography was conceived after completing the book Plant Tissue Culture: Theory and Practice (Elsevier, 1982). Recognition of the various potential industrial applications of plant biotechnology has considerably enhanced the importance of plant tissue culture (PTC), as the latter holds a pivotal position in the realisation of the final goal of crop improvement via cell manipulation and multiplication. It is also becoming increasingly popular in basic studies in plant sciences. Consequently there has been an explosion in the literature on PTC since 1970. A distinctive feature of the present compilation is that it covers all aspects of PTC of higher plants, including Gymnosperms.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Production of food to meet the demands of an ever-increasing human population in the world is the major task and challenge to agriculture today. The conventional methods of plant breeding alone can no longer cope with the situation. The success of any crop improvement program depends on the extent of genetic variability in the base population, but due to denuding of forests and agricultural land, the naturally occurring pool of germplasm is being depleted. An urgent need is therefore ap parent to create new variability and increase the genetic base of agricul tural crops. Agricultural biotechnology has progressed to a stage in the produc tion of plants where specific characteristics to improve their yield, ap pearance, disease-resistance, nutritional quality and adaptation to ad verse soil conditions can be built into the seed. This concept of built-in quality implies a continuous scientific endeavour to improve plant char acters using a wide range of possibilities, and it also implies a scrutiny of the materials and methods available in the world today.

Book excerpt: Providing a strong base in this emerging and highly promising field, Molecular Biotechnology: Principles and Practice strikes a balance between two important aspects of the science - the theory of molecular biology and the experimental approach to the study of biological processes. The main feature of this book is that it covers a wide range of molecular techniques in biotechnology and is designed to be a student- and teacher-friendly textbook. Each technique is described conceptually, followed by a detailed experimental account of the steps involved. The book can also serve as reference to the interested reader who is venturing into the field of biotechnology for the first time.
